Holy shit! Been listening to the doors for over 50 years. You younger people got to realize; Jim, Ray and the others were like impossibly remote gods to us. Only heard on vinyl or seen on the occasional TV special. That's it. We had zero access beyond the albums we bought and chance encounters on radio or TV. They were like storms that crash through your life with incredible power and beauty and vanish with almost no rhyme or reason. I was 7 when Jim died. He really was a mythical figure like Odysseus or Hercules. I would have fainted if I saw a video like this when I was 15 years old.

They found each other so easily and everything just fell into place. It was all meant to be. I believe in Fate. What are the odds against finding a brilliant guitarist to match a brilliant keyboard player along with a great drummer and incredible singer like Jim? They had band chemistry and their own sound right from the beginning. Fully realized! Thank God it all fell into place! Just like the Beatles. Thanks to the Fates or Gods. This music is of divine origin. A musical miracle! The result is a plethora of incredible songs that will last forever. Thanks Ray and to whoever posted this. Wonderful footage of a great musician! 😊

I saw the Doors live, Oct. 20,1967 at the University of Michigan, after a disastrous 1st and 2nd set,and produced the best concert ever which I will call the 3rd set...and played almost all of the songs on the Light My Fire album, without a break, top to bottom, and without his shirt-jack,which he removed and threw it on the stage floor, in front of Ray Manzareks keyboard, and eventually finishing with " The End ", ON HIS BACK !!!.15 minutes after they left the stage, we woke up. They had paralyzed us, and we were all amazed. That was a very remarkable experience. Wow. 😊🎉❤

Thanks for sharing this video. What an education. What a wonderful coincidence of talent were The Doors. I first heard them on AM radio, back when it played music. The single edit of "Light My Fire" was played all of the time. I liked it. There were other radio songs, like "Hello, i Love You" or "Touch Me" but the breakthrough is when my brother Barry bought "13" at the grocery store, of all places. What a great selection of Doors songs from five albums. And we learnt that "Light My Fire" contained not one but two killer jams, keyboard and guitar. I was a little white boy in Tulsa, and i was getting a musical education from this record. It was the first blues ever i heard and i thought i heard in it something magical, and i was right.

Ray has always been one of my favorite musicians ever since I first heard Light My Fire. Over the years I met a ton of famous folks, celebs and legends who I was lucky enough to meet and speak with folks like Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, actor Gene Hackman, world class women's pro-tennis champion Maria Sharapova, and literally scores of others from various fields and Ray is my most favorite celeb meet of all of them. I stumbled onto him accidentally by chance walking in a door and he was coming out, he held the door for me, said "hello" - I looked up at his smiling face which I almost recognized and when I heard his voice, I immediately knew who he was because just a few hours before I had seen him on a VH1 rerun interview with Kurt Loder. We chatted for the better part of a half hour standing there by the door taking turns playing doorman for folks coming in or leaving. Ray was kind, witty, very intelligent, quite funny and intriguing. He made me feel so at ease and absolutely treated me as an equal with not a single hint of celebrity or him acting like he was more special than anyone else. He seemed genuinely interested in my 'thing' which I never really revealed to him that I was not only a working professional musician but also a published journalist having written for a number of music related publications. I didn't feel the urge to interview him or try to get any contact info from him or even think of passing on a demo or asking for his autograph! We had a wonderful visit and I'll never forget that. When it was time for him to go, he stuck out his hand and said, "It's been very nice meeting you and I've enjoyed our chat, but I have to run, my wife Dororthy is making lunch right about now, so I need to hurry home to have some food and tea with her. Tata for now! You take care of yourself. Bye!" Most people in his league don't often hold doors for other people or show that much consideration for common folks. (Although Merle Haggard pulled out a chair for me in a banquet room at a table backstage at a venue he was performing at after inviting me to join him for dinner!)

@@dennisaugustine6544 Me too! I definitely would have loved that. Ray was just so cool but it was just natural. I remember calling the radio station and bitching out the DJ's for playing the single edit version of Light My Fire instead of the full-length LP version. I was all of 12 years old! Rany got the biggest kick out of that. I was hooked on that band from the second I heard John Densmore's snare drum 'snap' just before the whole band starts playing. I wanted to be a drummer (kicked out two-years running, 6th & 6th grades) but guitar was my thing and still is. :)

@@dennisaugustine6544 Ha! You know there was an 'un-official' edit of 'Stairway To Heaven' made by some DJ's at a radio station back in the day located in Philly or NYC. Word got back to Led Zeppelin's manager Peter Grant who was a real force to reckon with. When LZ toured the US in '72 or '73 he went personally to that radio station and told them, "I'm Led Zeppelin's manager and I need to speak with the program director." They led him into the studio and Grant picked the guy up and threw him against a wall. He demanded to know who made the bootleg edit of the song and the DJ who made it owned up to it. Grant beat him to a pulp and then destroyed about half the equipment in the studio. He found the tape and smashed it to bits with his bare hands. (He'd been a bodyguard, pro-wrestler and some claim a hit man for the mob in the UK) LOL
