Is this eye opening to you that labeling your thoughts as "OCD" can be harmful if you have OCD?

Thank you for this video. It has been very helpful. I have Real Event Ocd. i did things totally out of character years ago due to multiple factors. When I think of the things I have done and the people I unintentionally hurt, the first thoughts that come to my mind are ‘you should have known better’, ‘what were you thinking’, ‘here is shame showing up’’, etc. In order to condense my response to this OCD, do you think that by using the ‘oh that is just my ocd thoughts showing up’ would be useful versus taking each obsessive thought individually and putting the ‘ I am noticing the thought that, etc’….in front of it. Thank you.

You're welcome!! We're all doing the best we can in each moment...give yourself grace! Neither of these techniques are the most effective ones out there, which is why you're still struggling. You need to stop beating yourself up here. Then you need to respond to your other obsessions w/ ERP techniques. Labelling always helps me when I'm at my worst. Certainly one shouldn't turn it into a compulsion. However, for me it's always helps me gain clarity and it reduces triggers. I get where you're coming from though.

I have been doing this for 3 months thinking it was helping and turns out it’s a compulsion I didn’t know it was till now i know the anxiety went down but my brain has been stuck on the same obsession of leaving and it sent me on trying to figure out if this is ocd or not or that if I still have the sense of urgency, ocd is exhausting but thank you for this video I’m going to stop labeling it

I think ERP works on the assumption that if ROCD disappears, then people will feel good in a rship, but when my ROCD is on a long pause, I still get same upsetting thoughts and dont experience good things in a rship to a good extent. And i notice that everyone is saying how they healed and they experienced so many good things in their rship, Mine stays very troubled, where we fight a lot, work on issues in a healthy way, stil doesnt improve much, same thoughts about incompatibility exist. SO I feel that yes with ROCD is nightmare, without it is also just bad and I am scared that I can never experience good things in my rship EVEN if ROcd will be gone.. I would apprecaite your thoughts on it, since I feel so alone with this ;(

I have to talk to you further to determine more, but if you’re obsessions, continue to bother you, there are compulsions feeding the cycle that you need to stop doing. our recovery techniques help you learn how to do this.
