it's funny because my family is the same exact way, they don't even realize that God has the final word over everyone & everything. so even if we never missed a day of Sunday service he could still burn us for eternity if he wanted to... live your life
This actually happened to me 😭. I walked out of my room to see my pastor and mom sitting in the living room ready to give me a Christianity intervention.
What's crazy is that most black parents (I'm black) think that by forcing your child to come to chruch might help because they are learning early. In actuality it makes them not want to go when they get older bc they were forced without understanding why.
Yes, I think its a pattern of forcing what you think is right (and perhaps it may ACTUALLY be right), but not explaining WHY. I hated that when I was young because I always got disciplined for simply asking "why". And my sister didn't because she was always one to follow the rules. Atleast my mum didn't get two kids always asking why all the time lol.
It's the same thing, Satan pulls you away from God, that's his main goal, sends demons out to get you to get far from God, and if you don't believe in Jesus they will attack you and dwell in you. Demons need to be in physical bodies and those that are not protected by God get possessed.
I disliked it as a kid, wished i could just stay home and play games. Now im glad , if i werent a christian, only Lord knows where i'd be rn mentally. The only thing keeping me sane in this ridiculous world.
@@michaelbrown688lol my mom was like “but my house will be in church” Lol I’m grown now and stopped going but telling her about was rough. She’ll have a harder time once I come out to her though. I should’ve killed two birds with one stone but she might’ve had a heart attack.
I would play bball instead to duck it got caught one day so would come like with 10 mins left and stay at the back so they see me got caught again. They just gave up in the end only go now when it's a special occasion
@@michaelbrown688You weren't led by a strong father figure and they didn't explain the importance of church. I would've told you "when you get older and move out of my house that's when you can sit in the house all day while we go to church. Now get dressed."

That's how condemned individuality is our our community in modern-day. Collectivism helped us survive back in the day, but it has woven itself into our culture to the point where it is many people's default. Either our way or the highway. Personally, I think we need collectivism and individualism but at varying extents based on the situation. Collectivism is good for making change and organizing people. Individualism is good for finding out who WE (uniquely the self) are as individuals and what's important to us and how we (again as individuals) feel about things rather than how we should feel about things as dictated by others.
That phone toss at the end was the epitome of “why the hell did I even bother.” 😂😂😂 I remember one Sunday my grandma drove slowly aside my brother and I while we walked down the street, explaining to us that we were basically hell bound for not wanting to go to church that day.

If you're a true believer then you'd want to lead your kids in the right direction. The devil was able to fool a prophet. Of course he'll fool a child. Remember when Samuels sons began doing evil? God not only blamed them but also blamed him and Samuel died that day
This is so true. You tell them that you don't want to go to church and then they point out so many things about you they never said before. You wonder like where did all this come from?
i remember when i first told my mom i didnt want to go to church anymore and i can see the look of disgust in her eyes lmaoo. luckily she didnt disown me and ended up being understanding about it.
Man being forced into something like that pushed me away from it as an adult. I know as kids we don’t got much to worry about but as an adult you realize everyone is really on that BS and a church really not that important that you need to wake your 8-16 year old at the crack of dawn to listen to someone rant about how to not be poor anymore by giving your money to them at the end.
Yeah even the bible doesn't say that church is necessary. In fact it says there will be false prophets in the church, and that even the pastor is a sinner.(that goes for everyone including popes) However the bible does say that if even two people are gathered in my name; im in the midst. As for as 'tithes and offerings' in the bible, and in the past tithes and offerings never had anything to do with money. It was things like food and whatnot given out of charitable hearts. Never was meant to feel mandatory.
@@spongebob8445 Thats not fully true about "the bible doesn't say that church is necessary". The fellowship of believers is important. Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV) And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up MEETING TOGETHER, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another-and all the more as you see the Day approaching. But this is important, that community is important because it does have true value. But ofcourse it should not be "forced" because what sort of encouragement is that? Especially when you are an adult and its time to make your own decisions. But just because people have done things wrong, doesn't mean there isn't a right way to do things. Also lets note that we way we organise churches these days is widely different from the early church. Which i believe its something we should really go back to, and people cant seem to do that because infact, they DO NOT read their own bibles.
@@amyqb117 I didn't say that people of like-minds or of biblical faith shouldn't congregate. What I said is that the bible doesn't encourage or command/require anyone who is righteous or within the faith to join any type of church or organized religion. The bible says that 'if even just two people are gathered in my name, then I am amidst' and to "gather ye selves oh NATION not desired". "Nation" of people not 'church' of people. We are talking the nation of people that are truly under the one true God. The righteous and chosen people are supposed to find ways to gather in the lord's name, but that had nothing to do with church. On the contrary that bible speaks of churches with false prophets, and even just recently brought judgment upon the baptist church in Spencer, Massachusetts.
@@spongebob8445 "I didn't say that people of like-minds or of biblical faith shouldn't congregate." . Thats literally a church. You just defined what a church is. . Because like I said, just because "church" has changed from what it was supposed to be doesn't mean it is bad. “Church” is the translation of the Greek term ekklesia, and is used in the New Testament to identify the community of believers in Jesus Christ. It literally means “assembly,” “congregation,” or “meeting.” A similar term was used in the Old Testament referring to experiences such as “the day of the assembly,” “the Lord’s congregation,” or “meeting before the Lord.” "The righteous and chosen people are supposed to find ways to gather in the lord's name, but that had nothing to do with church. " . Where is the evidence of this besides the fact that you may be conflating "organised religion" with "church"? ""Nation" of people not 'church' of people. We are talking the nation of people that are truly under the one true God." . When Jesus declares: “I will build my church” (Mt 16:18), tell me, was he supposed to say, "I will build my nation"? Not sure what your point here is. "The bible says that 'if even just two people are gathered in my name, then I am amidst' and to "gather ye selves oh NATION not desired"." . Matthew 18:20 is about church discipline. Its still a nice verse out of context but it doesn't stand as the right evidence for your point. Zephaniah 2:1-3 is about false prophets not just about the church. Zephaniah pronounces the Lord’s judgment on the whole earth, on Judah, on the surrounding nations, on Jerusalem, and on all nations. There is no need to conflate what is meant to actually mean "nation" with what is meant to be "church". "On the contrary that bible speaks of churches with false prophets, and even just recently brought judgment upon the baptist church in Spencer, Massachusetts." . I hope you realise that when the Bible speaks of this point it's about the false prophets, not the church itself.
I felt every second of this video. I realized when I was like 13yo like a decade ago that it was just a business and we are the products then I was just like hell no I'll be praying on my own. This happened to me too often. Sometimes they let me sometimes no. When I grew up I still had to deal with this when I came back in the family home but now at least they start to get me. Church is good but most people running it aren't
This was literally me and my grandma back in my WoW days. Used to stay up all Saturday night raiding and then she used to try to get me up the next morning. Either imma get some sleep here or at church 🤷🏽♂️. She stopped asking after awhile.
Lmfao, similar for me except I was playing ESO back in 2015 and 2016. Difference was that I worked in the nursery at my church toward the end of my church-going days. So I didn't really hear the sermons often and just got paid to watch kids, mostly. However, my godmother would frequently bust the door open on me at night to see if I was asleep. She was VERY controlling. My freedom from mandatory church was starting college. During college orientation, my godmother and mama were sure to bring me one of the campus churches that had been advertising itself as a place of worships which is what many families in the bible belt jump at the sound of hearing. I even attended church a few times on my own when I started college but that was all within the first 3 months. After that, I was done. I had stopped believing right before I started college and was only going to church on my own to hopefully restore my faith because of the fear tactics I was raised with. Took a while to realize that a loss of faith isn't the end of the world. We're ever-changing and having the freedom and courage to try out new things is what it means to truly live in my opinion. I could very-well end up back in the house of the Lord down the line as none of us knows what the future holds.
To the folks in the comments saying “if you’re in your parents house, you do as they say”. I’ve been out of my momma’s house almost a decade and this is the EXACT response that I’d STILL get 😂😂😂 but with her yelling and probably some laying on of the hands 😂😂😂😂 being open and honest with highly religious parents ain’t for the weak LOL this video is SPOT ON!!
Story of my life. It’s like most black families are religious to the point of being brainwashed by it. Freethinking or having a different opinion about life is heavily frowned upon and is snuffed out by beatings and gaslighting.
>It’s like most black families are religious to the point of being brainwashed by it. I mean, it IS that, unironically. I don't exactly think that slaves were part of the Anglican Church before they were shipped over here and if there was one thing that slave masters were willing to share with their slaves, it was their religion.
Youre right unfortunately, I got heavily punished for telling my parents after years of being forced to go to church that it just wasn't for me and they refused to accept that answer. This is a result of generations even further back forcing religion upon their offspring. Thats not good because it creates fake believers and funny enough I hear preachers talk all the time about people not being genuine worshippers. Hmmm.....I wonder why....
Exactly what that's like. I just felt like I wasn't learning anything anymore since the pastors were basically saying the same thing every week. It's not that I don't believe, it's that I didn't feel like the church was telling me things I didn't already know. I felt like I was wasting my time, like I needed a fresh perspective.
Did you find it? I faced the same thing but thank God for RU-vid and the wealth of Bible scholars here discussing different topics in DEPTH (even going through original manuscripts etc). I learnt so much during covid that tbh I think its hard for pastors to deliver such content in pulpit if you're not a very regular member and he doesn't need to re-explain things for new comers. IDK I think I see it both ways. I still go to church to be in that community, but where I think I have matured, I continue to look for more advanced studies.
I am so happy I didn't have this experience. My mother used to have us go to church when me and my siblings were kids, but after the drama involving our pastor cheating on his wife, she never FORCED us to go after that. From then on it's been up to us
I wanted to be at the church from a child up for everything going on and conventions. We went to church most of the time without our parents and they would come later sometimes. Sunday School, church service, dinner after church, snacks during class, Bible Training classes, Vacation Bible School, all night shut-ins, Youth camp, field trips to the Zoo, Six Flags, Magic Springs, national conferences, skating rink, bowling, holiday socials and banquets, Bible quiz bowl, outreach, meeting new people, choir and music rehearsal, church picnics, etc! We met so many new and old friends. Still keep in touch. Church was and still is fun🙏🏼🎉❤️
Literally over something as HONESTLY mundane as this? I'm going to keep saying it. We as a community need to accept and embrace individualism WAY more. Thinking differently and feeling differently is something that should be embraced. I stopped going to church also back when I started college (2015). Down the line, I started to feel I needed to talk to a therapist because of the pressures of live. When I told my godmother, she said "it's because I don't go to church. All you need is the Lord. Man can't heal your mind". This was like 2021. We grew up close, but I started talking to her less and less and it's definitely put a strain on our relationship. Still love her and she me, but from a distance. I am more connected with my mama now for the first time instead of her because she (mama) was never controlling and more respectful of my individualism. She didn't judge me when I told her I had a therapist. That I got an ear piercing when I was *23* (I'm a man). That I was thinking about getting a Mustang. (I'm financially stable). Her son (my role model growing up) kept explaining to her that I was only sharing information with her and that I was going to do what I wanted in the end regardless of what she said, but that is beyond unacceptable lmao. I live a whole state away and by myself yet my dear godmother occasionally still tries ever-so slightly to control me. Manipulation and disloyalty are the two things that I won't tolerate from anyone. Sorry for the rant.
damn bro i know that feel my dad was the same way it make me happy to know other people on the same stuff but remember youll be so much better off by just being ready for it and taking it on with a smile happy holidays and merry christmas
Pops told the Devil "Not Today!" 🤣😂😅 Folks who grew up in a house that went to church regularly, already knew this conversation wasn't going to go smooth. Nope! The only excuse that was acceptible was if you were sick or had to work. Otherwise, you'd best be up and resssss tuh go to church wit errr'body else 🤣
