When Your Library Stops Answering Your Emails 

This is very timely and important info Jesse, thank you for putting this out here for us.

Hi Jess, thank you for this. We were scouted by a music publisher that specializes in film/tv and have been submitting tracks regularly to them. They were very responsive in the beginning but less so over time to the point now it feels like being ghosted. It's not like we sent a ton of emails but it's hard to tell without communication. We appreciate your perspective on this and it will probably shape our path forward. Mostly it sounds like we need to be persistent and advocate for ourselves. Conversely, there is a non-exclusive library that we work with and although we've never had a placement have always been super responsive. -Kevin

I've noticed that around this time of the year they respond slowly, and I've figured that some of them are either on vacation or coming back from it and have a lot to catch up upon. And if they definitely don't respond anymore, there's always other libraries.

For me this is a no brainer. If I get ghosted in any way from any company without a reasonable response and explanation about why it happened I stop dealing with them. As you say it means that I am not a valued asset or customer to them OR the worst - they are not a good company that are shady and will rip me off in some way. I usually send them one last polite reminder stating that I want to know why they have not responded and if they don't respond I will regard them as a bad company and let others know about my experience which may hurt their reputation and future business.

What would be an average time to wait for an email response-three weeks?

when you say to keep in touch and show interest, how exactly do you do it? When everything goes well we just send our new music. And sending a message to send a message might annoy them more because they are usually very busy and have no time for conversation. So exepxt sending new musics I dont see any way to show that Im taking it seriously and not be on the 99%.

I watched your video and took a shower, while in the shower I came up with a thought. Could it possibly be that, like employers, these libraries are searching musicians social media and perhaps are seeing things they don't like? An example would be, a person's political viewpoint or some other present day issue that they may have an opposite view on that makes them ghost people.
