This may very well been my favorite Reed family video! Watching that whole school including the teachers giving their undivided attention was really cool. Seeing those tracks and hearing stories about riding was very interesting to me. Merry Christmas to the Reed family and as always thanks for bringing us along on your adventures.
I was born in West Wallsend, when i was a Child a lot of the older guys were riding British Road bikes, some were also riding older stripped down BSA 500's and Bantams etc, around the bush. The Towm is surrounded by a Mountain Range to the east, north and west and another ridge going through the town, there were trails going in every direction., and for miles, one would also come across huge unused train tunnels.. a dirt bikers dream at your very front and back door. Every weekend all you heard was 2T Motocross Powerband Roars when they were riding Trails close to the town. There use to be a vast amount of land to the northeast of the town which had a Kart track Motocross track, a international Trials area, and a clearing in between called " the slaughter House " it was a training track used by the Wallsend MC Club, well its all full of Houses now.. During the early 70's Bultaco Pursang's and Husky's were vey popular with the local lads, come 74, Suzuki TMs and Honda CR's were appearing, i was the fist guy in the town to buy and ride YZ's ,my first buy was a 74 125A, and then in 75 a 250B Monoshock, it was a beast , all its power was in the midrange, a great play bike.. some more late 70's models were added, they were better for Racing, but the 75 YZ power output was more fun. The Sugarloaf Range was a very popular riding area during the 70's for Newcastle People.. That area near the Cemetery, where you made a Training Track, just a little North of there, use to be a clearing with a Track around it, i think it was called " wally weamases " or something sounding like that, by the locals, i remember seeing your Uncle Barry as a 12 year old on his push bike watching us ride there. a few times.. Chad, i went to High School with your Father and Glen Ando, i was one Year behind them, i remember your grandparents home, and when the Earthquake of 88 happened i was living in Mt Hutton, the House Shook Violently from side to side about 4 or 5 times.. I haven't been back to the Town since the late 80's, i am living on the other side of the Planet these days, Cheers Guys.
This must’ve been a Nostalgia flashback for Chad. By far my favourite video so far showing the roots of my favourite rider of the best sport in the world. Australian icon and legend! Love ya Reeds ❤
It's got to be really cool for your kids to see where you came from, Chad! Your old stomping grounds and the place that gave us and the rest of the MX community a champion through an through.
Great to see you guys having fun in Australia. It’s been a blast watching Chad’s career and now watching the kids ride and learn. Nice to hear about Chad’s early life too. Always thought he was a Kurri kid. I remember Ando’s practice track under the power lines out Westy. Maybe I’m old and demented but that track was gnarly. Also a shout out to Chad’s mother who helped my twins in early starter at Kurri 🙏🙏🙏 Loved riding back in the good old days, from Westy, through Sugarloaf out to Kearsley for a few beers and back again. Also loved sitting by the fence at the Motor-drome and getting a face full of dirt. Keep up the great work and thank you all for the entertainment
that was great, that you went back and made this video of where you grew up I loved every minute of it I always wanted to see where you grew up thanks for the memories you shared with all of up thanks CHAD really
This is the best Chad Reed family video ever, so good to see Chads childhood primary school, family home and bush motorcross tracks where he used to ride and practise. Bloody brilliant good work!!
i had a bike built waaaaaaaay back when not long after chad left and rode the last spot where the power lines are used to be INSANE... Chad is to modest.. i remember i couldn't hit any of the ramps they were crazy!!! like these high dirt mounds i was like amazed.. Great video and please don't get any more injured mate we all want to see you blast the Aus tracks!! and good luck kids enjoy it!!
I can still remember, central vic chad reed ,john flint,( sadly passed away now) early 90's we were parked next to the reeds,i was chatting with chads dad mark, nice guy, super focused on chads riding ,the racing was on kx65 ,so fast and skillful riding, havent seen that sort of riding since, thanks for the memories.
As a massive chad reed fan from the uk, this was soo cool to actually see the places where it all began for chad! Absolute joy to watch and only made me love chad even more! Nothing but respect chad!

Well done Chad giving back to what helped you to get where you are today 👏. I've recently returned to my riding trails after 30yrs away & it's a amazing feeling. Looking forward to seeing the coverage of you riding a superbike at Phillip Island 🏝 😀. ❤️from 🇦🇺
Thanks for sharing. I didn't learn to ride there, but that was where we often started from when we trailered our bikes as adults. I remember seeing what I was told was "Ando's track" in ~2002, but it was fenced, so I figured it was private, not public under the powerlines. As Chad mentions, a lot of bush, we'd ride to freemans waterwole for lunch, and then return a different way.
I love how Tate stepped up at the school and asked you a question. That is a testament to his self confidence. He is not cocky, but self confident , very mature for his age. It is easy to forget how young he is
I love videos like this! Really makes Chad look human. If you know how big his success was in the sport and now knowing that his first experiences were like this, it really makes you think how hard he’s worked and I find it quite relatable. Not all of us had pristine tracks to ride so you just made do with what you had! Very inspiring, good job guys ❤
Great video, Reminds me of my young days at Menai. Rocks, tree roots and more rocks and a few scars. You should take the kids to the Drive In. I believe it's closing soon. I used to take my kids all the time. Heddon Greta.
What a beautiful blessing to be with the people that you were around and the places you lived and you have your beautiful family with you and God blessed you chad, you have a beautiful wife and lovely kids and you are amazing as a dad husband and our friend on social media and I thank you for letting us all be a part of your life as well as your family's also, again thank you and God bless you all happy new year and merry Christmas to you all from the bay area California Larry vanbrunt jr.
Your bringing back some memories chad we are the same age and it’s funny we were doing the same things as kids except I lived in Canberra,I still ride to this day riding like the devil owns my right hand just kickin it and rippin it!😜
Now we understand how your never quit attitude was cultivated. We need some more of that stop whining and ride kids in the USA if it’s not groomed or has some dust most just stop riding, and it’s showing at the amateur nationals when it gets difficult they back off. Thanks for the tour! GOD BLESS YOU GUYS!❤️
Yes it was 89, I was living in tights hill and was out the front working on my car and heard a big noise thought it was an aeroplane, and the road was going in a wave up and down and the chimneys were wobbling, hope I don't see it again lol
That moment you realise only last week you where ripping up Chad reeds childhood track. Just shows how much a nanny state this country has become, imagine rolling out a skid steer these days on the powerlines and building a track. You'd be thrown in prison instantly by newcastle city council
I learned how to use clutch at that track it was a yz80 1992 model whight with pink sticker kit. The first mx track I ever when to was lake's my frend lived next door we walking in bush to get to lakes to watch you race's flat track and it sounded like a swoom of bee's and I'm saying to my frend that sounds like bee's not moter bikes lol little flat track 🇦🇺
Next time Tate wants to complain about riding conditions, he is going to look at you and go, arrrr what the heck. Now he knows Dad was telling the truth.
Man my primary school at Williamtown just up the road from williamtown raaf base dident have a nuff kid's so thay closed it now the weeds are reclaiming it slowly and it's all smashed up and my kids rip me off about it lol suck a shame but how thay can just say one day not anuff kid's rezone them close it up so meany good memories lol
