Wife of mtg player here, i love these videos because i used to enjoy opening booster boxes, but my husband doesn't buy them anymore except for drafting. I miss opening them, hoping for a Nicol Bolas, a Sheoldred, or whatever the biggest card would be that set. I hope hasbro/wizards can get their greed in check.

Basically the price is sustained by 2 cards with tons of value: orcish bowmasters and the one ring. You either open one or lose money, and for that... you buy the single instead?

One thing I've noticed as a LGS worker, is that people aren't trading in their cards as much as you'd think. Lots of people are trying to get full sets. The collectors for both MTG and LOTR are serious about this. Many sites haven't restocked box toppers for weeks because prices are changing so much, but also because people aren't trading stuff in. As soon as it's available, its sold. Draft and Set boxes are being sold out at distributors, and LGS's can't even restock. The LOTR Jumpstart product has even been hard to get for LGS's. Bundles are impossible to find, and their prices are climbing when they are available. So buying singles is pretty difficult for this set, when you have people even buying up commons just for their binders for collections.

I find it very funny that the first box had a higher value than the Collector Booster box opening.

I bought the singles I wanted on the official release date and boy was that a good decision. Not only did the singles I bought go up in value, I saved a good amount of money buying them. First time I primarily just bought singles and I don't regret it

I literally picked all but like 3 or 4 of the legendary creatures for the set for like 40 bucks total. Ive been a huge LOTR book fan since i was a kid so just being able to play a deck with Eowyn or Galadriel had me mega hyped.

Is it possible to get a recap list for the cards opened in the box that were over $2 like you do for the commander cards, either as a few moments on screen after the end of the box or as an overlay during the epilogue at the end of the video?

I would love to get a collector box or something that isnt some exorbitant price. Perhaps this will help.

Most prices are going down, but the nazgul are shooting up through the roof. I hate it. All I wanted to do was making a casual commander deck with all nine, and it's already well over $100 on UNCOMMONS. Also, almost feels like Wizards goes out of their way to seed 1 nazgul per entire booster box.

I played this game and opened two boxes and made 140 on the first box and 70 on the second. This set isn’t worth the money they are demanding. But I took it a step further and challenged my friend to build a commander deck with only the cards we opened in our box, so that was fun

My LGS only does singles at the chaff level. Its sometimes worth trawling those boxes if there's an uncommon or common I want. This is why I buy a pack or 2 every FNM.That, and it is still fun cracking packs.

One thing to consider though, overal the cards in this set are really strong, they are linked to an IP with seriously agressive protective tendencies. The set specific cards with IP linked names will probably NEVER see reprint making them defacto either reserve list or reserve list adjacent if they make another run YEARS down the line. This isn't like let's say DnD because they own the licence for those prodducts.

I bought all of my singles a few weeks ago right as prices started to climb ever so slightly. I also bought all of the extended art cards to complete the full "pictures" that I wanted. I've decided since then that I'm only going to buy collector's packs when the prices stabilize appropriately unless I happen to have extra cash. But I am only buying them for the sake of getting cool cards and not necessarily for money. That being said, I did get gifted a single collector pack yesterday and pulled a foil Orcish Bowmasters, Delighted Halfling Extended Art, and a Surge Foil Shards of Narsil. So.... it has reinvigorated my will to spend money on cardboard lol.

I think it’d be interesting to show the distribution of value among packs, just to show how spiky the value can be between packs. Dunno if that’d be best as a graph or just something like “# packs above $10; # packs $2-$10; # packs below $2”. Dunno if that starts to get too MTGFinance though. Also don’t think I’d show any more detail than that, as a summary should be enough. This isn’t a statistically meaningful number of boxes, after all. EDIT: or maybe “# packs more than 2x pack price; # packs 1x-2x pack price; # packs below pack price”?

Thoughts on adding vitu-ghazi guildmage to the deck. If you take there and back again all the way through the saga. It ends the story creating smaug. If you use the populate ability from vitu on smaug it will auto sacrifice one (legend rule) giving 14 treasure token. Spend (2)+GW for 14 any color.

The frustrating thing is that many lgs dodnt get many collector booster boxes. Mine, in Norway got one in, so it was first come first serve to the boosters. Then some ppl got to buy stacks of them. Also the commander precons are impossible to get a hold of here..

I'm glad that the only cards I truly cared about, the map lands, are actually affordable. I remember paying $2 a piece on the TBD constellation basics when they were brand new.

According to creepy rudies emporium, the sealed collectors boxes are going back up! Totally not because there are individuals that are sitting on a bunch of sealed product or anything *coughcough*

Sadly it seems gone are the days of $100 for a draft booster. . .and $120 for a set booster box. . . Forget the resell value. . .its getting frustrating just not finding fun cards for the price being paid. So many repeats. . . I forget which set we were opening where we ended up with playsets of some cards and never saw others at common/uncommon and many duplicates of trash rares.

You could easily "fling" those raycons into your ears before a workout to transform into a QUESTING BEAST

Got my Raycons a few weeks ago (went with the fitness version but still mentioned you at checkout since your code only applies for the regular version). They're pretty great! Comfortable fit, magnetic snapping into the charging base makes for easy stowing, and a good variety of audio settings and tap controls.

Im actually, i know you preach, boosters for draft, but with how Set boosters, are collated, do you think they offer an on par draft experience vs normal draft boosters. What about collector booster, ive seen some places do those drsft environments. I honestly would like to see what your thoughts are on Set boosters for draft.

Remember that many people may not know that the Ring was found. The boxes still say "could contain serialized Ring card" on them. I suspect this keeps the price up a bit.

I think the price spike on the singles at this point (about a month after the release of this video) justifies what the box price was. You can't find the sealed product anywhere now and many of the singles have gone way up.

I got stupid lucky with my collector box and pulling 1 rings. I pulled 4 of them and some other fire so I wasn't too upset at the price tag.

I generally buy one set box, because I collect the art cards, then any art cards my friends get they give to me, all the leftovers go to another buddy for a table he wants to build. Then I buy the missing ones. Lol

It was nice to see you revisit these set boxes. The singles prices have actually gone up quite a bit over the past week or so. I think that is a reflection of the power of the set, even though there is probably a lot of singles on the market. I have to admit I was able to finish all of my foil Scenes for pretty cheap.

I’m so happy I paid $900 shipped+ tax in May for a case (6) of set booster boxes and $130 shipped+ tax for the complete commander decks. So glad I found a LGS that doesn’t like to scalp players!

Ya the prices on these ones motivated me to take it less serious and the friends i play with as well. We ether bought singles or like myself just printed some fake cards just to have fun and play a game (though i bet any of us would be willing to spend hard cash if it was more reasonable priced).

I'm so happy , even though I started playing 4 months ago, after reading alot of cards, I found how to have a 5 land type deck, swamp, mountain, n forest, with all 3 of the add one mana artifact 3 generic. Now artifacts are mana, turboing sauron, n any 5 4 mana, pod for turboing wraith, n one ring with 4mana mythic draw gain 2, with bank job, 1 mana is basic land search green 2 cards, n eaten alive. 160 cards, with my favorite Land mount doom, just u flood mana,

You should play the Lord of the Ring Bundle game. The One Ring you get in every one is worth nearly as much as the price of the bundle so it should be a fun watch if nothing else.

Wanted to buy AP box to local store, but thoses sold so fast 2 weeks ago. They just got refilled but prices almost doubled ? From 25 to 45 € How come isn't it the same box ?

Wraith tribal stuff is going up in price which means getting those 9 Nazgul copies is going to be pricey if you try singles since some are almost 20 usd I think

Honestly I kind of called this whenever the 1/1 One Ring of Power was announced. Either the ring of power wasn't going to be found and people were going to manipulate the secondary Market to sell bundles at extremely high prices for the chance to find the ring of power or the ring of power was going to be found immediately and prices would probably drop like a rock.

My thought is this. Prices are still halfway high on sealed product for a few reasons. One is the fact that WotC has established a precedent of FOMO with Universes Beyond product such as the Warhammer 40k decks, Secret Lairs, etc., so people are more willing to spend big to get their favorite 3rd party franchise in MTG, especially if that franchise fits the game's setting as well as Lord of the Rings does. Another is the fact that it IS Lord of the Rings, a VERY long-running and VERY popular fantasy franchise, which like I said above, means people are willing to be looser with their wallets if it means they get to have Legolas in their Elf tribal deck or Gimli in Dwarf tribal or what have you. As for collector's product, I think that, specifically, is two-fold, and both being points you hit on. One is people investing big because of that 1/1 Ring and not wanting to lose that big of an investment so easily now that the hunt is over. The other is the fact that it's VERY unlikely that the other 1900 serialized cards have all been found, and given that those serialized Sol Rings are between approximately $200 and $700 as of my writing this comment, it's very likely those are gonna end up artificially inflating the price of collector boxes until it's confirmed they've all been found.
