Complaining about the transmission makes it last place? Get the fucking manual version than. Jesus it seems like "If the car doesn't have flappy paddles than it's not good, it's behind, it's old technology." I like manuals better! There is a feeling that makes it feel like YOU are in control. Not some technology robot saying "O K You Are Switching Gears."

um you do know that f1 racing which is the highest level of racing on earth uses paddle/electronic shifting. just saying

sterling stegall You are correct, but what is your point? F1 car's are in a completely different league than any road car. I stick by my word, A manual gives an enjoyable feeling that you ARE the car, paddles don't have that effect.

Why do you think bmw is now focusing on torque and low end power copying the american stradegy.... because atleast 95% of bmw owners have never tracked a car. @BlastDance
@BlastDance 13 лет назад
The reviewer is correct to place Cadillac as last. GM, in their very American thinking, did not bother to pay as much attention to the gearbox as the engine when they designed the CTS-V. Also, until about 6 years ago, GM has never heard of "independent suspension", so while the CTS-V's suspension is superb, it lacks the precision of the M3 because it has not been tested and tweaked for 30+ years. Also, for those who are interested, 0-60 time for M3 is 3.7s, which is faster than CTS-V (3.9s)

The RS5 is nice but I prefer the newer one. And the new M3 Lime Rock Edition is something I would pick over the RS5. The CTS V Coupe... WTF? Should've compared a C63 AMG Coupe in its place.
@vernonprice5986
@vernonprice5986 10 лет назад
Uh, the CTS-V kicks the RS5's ass. And the M3. And the C63. In fact the CTS-V would have won this comparison if they had gotten a manual one instead of an automatic, because if you were paying attention to the video you would have noticed that the CTS-V did everything better than both the other cars, but they didn't like the automatic transmission.
@NikoBell12

Clearly you're a CTS fan. Seriously, get your facts right and stop bullshitting or just shut dafuq up and leave.
@vernonprice5986
@vernonprice5986 10 лет назад
ORLY? Tell me what facts I got wrong. You've never driven a CTS-V, have you? If you had, we wouldn't be having this discussion. The CTS-V runs 11s stock, what does the RS5 run again? I mean you understand that the CTS-V has almost 250 lb-ft more torque than the RS5, right? I've had some putz in an RS5 try to run me, it was fucking pathetic. Those cars are not fast.
@vernonprice5986
@vernonprice5986 10 лет назад
NikoBell12 Right, I'm the blind one here. So tell me how I'm wrong, exactly. This is about you hating the CTS-V, not me hating anything. haven't you been paying attention? Oh and about my horrible typing skills, did I make any grammatical errors or spelling mistakes? Please do point them out to me. If you're going to call me retarded regarding the CTS-V's steering feel, then I can only assume once again that you haven't actually watched this video. Or any other review of the CTS-V. Or the head 2 head against the E63. I'm not even the one saying the CTS-V has the best steering feel. Once again, feel free to watch this video again, but maybe pay attention this time. And if the RS5 is fast, what does that make the CTS-V? Super fast? Monstrously fast? Ridiculously fast? Unbelievably fast? I don't know, you tell me. It's substantially faster than the RS5, so you tell me what you call that. Speaking of pissy, have you looked in a mirror lately? Oh, and as he pointed out in the video, the reason the CTS-V got last place was because of the automatic transmission. I don't like autos, and my CTS-V has a manual. And Iv'e used it to utterly humiliate people in RS5s and M3s, it's hilarious how butthurt they get. And to add insult to injury, mine is a WAGON. I'm guessing you have just absolutely zero clue how much faster the CTS-V is than the M3 and the RS5. Like absolutely no idea at all. Audi and BMW drivers tend to be the most obnoxiously stuck up about their cars (like you, for example) so they're the most fun to destroy. I mean your comments here are evidence of that, you think the RS5 is actually competitive with the CTS-V. Let me know when you come back to reality.

@clintkeller951
@clintkeller951 12 лет назад
Because size-wise, the CTS is really meant to challenge the M5/M6 offerings from BMW. However, Cadillac doesn't have the 3-Series-sized ATS/ATS-V models yet, AND the CTS-V coupe is priced competitively with the M3 at a starting price in the $60k-$70k range. The M6 is priced well above that, and many reviewers use price points as a means for comparing competing models, as buyers looking to choose will obviously look at the cost of the vehicle.

In a separate notice Thursday, GM said it was recalling more than 1,200 Cadillac Escalade EXT, Chevrolet Avalanche and Silverado and GMC Sierra vehicles for 2011 model year. In these vehicles, the rear axle cross pin might fracture or shift out of position. This might cause the rear axle to lock and the driver might lose control of the car.

@cadrolls I'm with you. Cadillac's 6-speed auto (with paddle shifters), also avail in 6-speed manual; is more designed for fuel efficiency. Well, the CTS-V isn't as such (if you get one please be cozy with your local gas station (EPA 12 city/18 hwy.)). The Audi and BMW's autos are dual-clutch autos. The ones who will drive the RS-5 and M3 will use the paddle shifters more often for driving experience.

In what? In a CTS-V. Obviously. What did you think we were talking about? He said the M3 was the best because he didn't like the auto transmission in the CTS-V. He ALSO said that the handing and steering was the best of the group in the CTS-V. Are you intentionally ignoring that? And the CTS-V is clearly faster than the other two, they're not in the CTS-V's league.

Personally, I'm thrilled with the job Audi has done with the RS5. In my opinion and from experience with both companies, Audi produces an all-around better sports car. The main reason being is not only do you get a beautifully designed; luxurious vehicle with serious power, but you can take it through even the worst of weather conditions with a sense of confidence. The M3 may be fun to drive, but not for the everyday driver. My S4 moves through it all. Looking forward to the RS5 in the U.S.

People tend to forget why Motor Trend and similar publications do these tests. Cadillac built the CTS to cut into BMW's monumental lead in the luxury sport sedan segment, with just one model instead of two. They built the CTS as a mid-segment competitor, with a sedan that would compete against the M5 and a coupe that would target the M3. This has everything in the world to do with market. The CTS-V is also faster than a Ferrari California, but they're not meant to compete, so it's irrelevant.

The M3 has been around since 1986 while the CTS V is relatively young as it was introduced in 2004. That's quite a head start for the perennial king of the hill from Bavaria. The Cadillac though has been improving by leaps and bounds. If GM continues its current level commitment to improving the CTS V, I believe it has a good chance to truly be on par with the Europeans in another 5-7 years. Time will tell.

The Cadillac CTS-V comes standard with premium Italian leather on both sides of the seats, dashboard, and door panels. It is in the top 5 cars when it comes to quality and dependability. The BMW, on the other hand, has the highest fatality rate, per mile driven, of just about any car ever built. When they need replacement parts, they are sometimes more than 4 times more for similar parts on the Cadillac. BMWs come standard with cheap vinyl and cheaper plastic. Cadillac is KING!♥

Right, except for the part where he said the handling and steering were the best in the group. In fact the only problem he had with the CTS-V - and the only reason it didn't come in first - was the auto transmission. And of course you can get the CTS-V with a Tremec 6-speed manual, which solves that problem. This is an odd comparison because neither the RS5 nor the M3 are in the CTS-V's league. At all. I blow by those cars like they're standing still.

I am not referring to the past to prove BMWs are inferior. I SOLIDLY point to the present and to the future as well. Cadillac's magnetic suspension was so good that Ferrari, the world's leader in high performance sports cars, chose it over the one used on BMW. ALL the people who have compared Cadillac to the BMW have admitted that Cadillac is the better car. 70% of ALL new Cadillac ATS sales are coming from former German car owners. Cadillac saw a 40% increase in sales from last year.

That's because Corvettes and Econoboxes are not comparable. Price absolutely matters when you're looking at cars of the same or similar class. That's been one of Cadillac's main arguments with the CTS-V against the outgoing M5 - it's faster in a straight line and round the track, plus it's a hell of a lot cheaper. Purists will point out that the CTS-V is smaller than the M5, but bigger than the M3. Hence, the ATS and why the 2014 CTS is going to be much bigger.

@cadrolls I should mention that I highly respect Cadillac's CTS range: it proves that GM is actually capable of making competitive cars. The fact is, the M3 handles better and is more of a drivers' car (hence its 20 consecutive years on Automobile Magazine's 10-Best list). The end of the video says it all: the M3 "is the most fun to drive, the most focused and the best all-rounder. The benchmark is still the benchmark."

I'm lucky enough to drive a 2011 M3. I do so because I like to drive and the M3 is a drivers car. You really feel like youre one with this car and part of the road. Although the Audi and Caddy are Fine cars, the M3 is really something special. You realize this as soon as you get behind the wheel.

@Greendude33 Then again, if it out-accelerates a BMW M and the Audi RS-7, why complain about the transmission? You got a point. I just responded to what Angus said, but then again, I've never driven these super luxury coupes. It's a pipe dream to most of us.

How do you blame GM for cheating in a test that they had nothing to do with? They built the CTS to compete with the 5-series until the ATS was ready, and built a coupe to help drive younger sales. I'm not sure how an automaker that was on the brink of bankruptcy a few years ago, and has decided to play the German's game (which, if anything, is a compliment to BMW, Audi, and Mercedes) with their luxury brand, constitutes cheating just because they didn't have a true 3-series competitor to provide

Cadillac's obsolescent rates were geared to the American economy, as were all American cars. G.M.'s profit margin was made up by their replacement parts that represented 63%. The same as the German and Japanese cars. G.M. made sure that when a part did need replacing, people could afford it. The Germans and Japanese did not. Cadillacs are in the top 5 now for quality and reliability. Things have changed at G.M. It is a new day. Get a Cadillac and enjoy it!

Electronics? My cousin, Milo Taylor Farnsworth invented the television. The radio was an Italian invention. Our Government gave Japan the electronic market to make up for the atomic bomb like they do after all wars. Had that market stayed here, it would have been NO DOUBT far more advanced than it is now. Cadillac remains the world's most technically advanced cars in the world today ------ regardless of price!

I'd take the RS5. Just makes the most sense for the long, snowy winters of Chicago and seems like it's the best all rounder with the best interior, looks, equipment and performance. I think the M3's getting a little boring and the only advantage it has on the Audi, is it can drift.

There is NOTHING about the German or Japanese cars that is more advanced than what we have here in the United States. Ferrari chose Cadillac's magnetic suspension over that used on BMW for a reason. It is far more advanced and responds quicker to road changes. None of the German or Japanese cars allow you to reconfigure the gauges that way Cadillac does. ONLY Cadillac gives you PREMIUM Italian leather seating, door panels and dashboards too. Cadillac is world class. Get used to it.

Personally I'll like the M3 by far. The DCT is out of this planet good, and the F1 inspired 4L V8 is a sleep waiting to be awaken, a full exhaust system, intake system, and head work that engine can push out 130+HP per liter with ease in a N/A form. M3 it's a detune race car dress up with street car luxury weight..... It surpass the CTS-V and RS5 technology with ease. In a straight line the CTS would walk all over the M3 and be faster in most tracks, with that said the CTS-v is in a different

@UFCextra Audi is new to the "sports car" game, not considering the older TT's, the R8 and RS5 just came out and look at what theyre being compared too, their interiors are top notch, well designed and perfectly executed. I guess each has a mind to their own, I respect your own opinion, but I didnt think I'd ever hear from someone with negativity towards Audi's interiors.

Apparently, you are not aware that it does not matter where the car was produced or sold that is a measure of its resale value. Cadillac has a better resale value then all but the BMW when it comes to German cars. The man testing the cars said that about the gear hunting if you can comprehend the totality of the discourse.

@dwill8919 I agree, but just because a car has awd doesnt mean it handles better. handling has to do with suspension and breaking for the most part. On the traction side yes, awd is much better as well as a tire with a good foot print.

@Jutt08 CADILLAC: 556 HP BMW: 414 HP AUDI: 444 HP ...what a fair comparison. and btw, even if the caddillac wins this match it won't be selling well in europe, cause gas it has much more capacity compared to the others...and gas is much more expensive in europe. you pay about 1,50 Euro for one liter in germany which is about 2 USD...that would be nearly 8 USD for one US gallon (I think that's the common unit for gas in the USA, right?) so you see why Germans built their cars in a different way

My vote: Tie in 1st. place for CTS-V-C and, BMW M3 with, the Audi RS5 in a close 2nd.! I'm a GM. man...but, I LOVED the way, the BMW sound when, the "M button" was pressed...or, that "M button" could be a placebo! Lol..

If I lived in a place where snow wasn't an issue, this would be the easiest decision. The CTS-V all the way. Way faster than every M and RS vehicle. (Well, RS 8 is the exception but for the price???) and much cheaper. But alas, snow is an issue, so again, easy decision. The Audi. Yes, I know, good snow tires will take care of the snow, and that's true for like 300 or so horses and torque. But doesn't make a big difference for almost 600. Realisticaly, you can't go wrong with any of them. :)

@shawnspeed3 Hi Shawn, keep in mind that the M3's styling is actually 6 years old. So it's not new at all. The new M3 comes out I believe in 2012. That's why he mentions that it's the oldest of the bunch. I think the Cadi is actually nice. It has the power but it's just missing refinement. Still a bad ass car. The Audi for me is nice as well. Nice design.

2- Subsequently, Fritz Fiedler who was a seasoned car designer when BMW adopted the unique design language of the kidney grilles that the Ihle brothers originally incorporated into their roadster. He produced a number of prototype variations of the design and within a few months time, this distinct dual kidney grille design was released on the brand new 303 Series in time for the Berlin Motor Show in 1933. The rest is history.//// And this is the true history behind the BMWs kidney grill.

No one in Europe cares what Cadillac are doing, and certainly not the top German marques, whose biggest competitors are each other by quite a margin. Cadillac is a bit of a joke in Europe. I've never heard anyone say "I'd love to have a Cadillac". "Who copied who? Let me see." Cadillac have improved by trying to be German. The only reason they've survived this long is through blind patriotism and the fact of the matter is that German cars have much, much better than the equivalent from America
@clintkeller951
@clintkeller951 12 лет назад
You referred to this as "the American game", which you then defined as "cheating", and then called Cadillac a "bully" for building a car that is bigger and more powerful than what the Germans offer for the same price. That's not "cheating", that's underselling the competition. Furthermore, it's not Cadillac's fault that the Germans don't currently offer anything more closely comparable in power, size, and price - nor is it BMW or Audi's fault that this was obviously done to buy time for the ATS.

You are OBVIOUSLY not aware of the quality of the new Cadillacs. NOTHING about them are as before G.M.'s restructuring. That is why we Americans are PROUD that Cadillac is building quality cars again. You must be VERY happy since ignorance is bliss! LMBO! :) Whatever floats your boat!

I have never test driven any one of these cars to let you know how well they perform. Neither have I been to the factory plant where they are built. What I can say is that my favorite car out of the group is the BMW.

Everybody, look out, because Cadillac is goin' large with this one. The M3 is a true competitor, but I would never buy into a BMW. As for Audi, the only model that I would ever buy, is the S4. I'm sold on this CTS though. It is my *realistic* dream car, and If I had the money, I'd get one in dark grey with an STS Twin Turbo System... 750hp, what up!

I like how they used driver feel and all around performance to decide the winner. Not just a couple meaningless track numbers like usual. All the cars had auto transmissions to be fair.

As much as I like the Cadillac CTS-V but I think it's not fair comparing to the BMW M3 and Audi RS5 because it have 100+ hp advantage over both of the other cars.
