About Where Eagles Dare - Theatrical Release: December 4th, 1968
During WW2 a British aircraft is shot down and crashes in Nazi held territory. The Germans capture the only survivor, an American General, and take him to the nearest SS headquarters. Unknown to the Germans the General has full knowledge of the D-Day operation. The British decide that the General must not be allowed to divulge any details of the Normandy landing at all cost and order Major John Smith to lead a crack commando team to rescue him. Amongst the team is an American Ranger, Lieutenant Schaffer, who is puzzled by his inclusion in an all British operation. When one of the team dies after the parachute drop, Schaffer suspects that Smith's mission has a much more secret objective.
Filmed at Hohenwerfen Castle in Werfen, Austria

Always been one of my favorites. My dad was 79 when he passed In 2017, so many memories watching this, Kelly’s heroes, Guns of Navarone, Great Escape and I could go on for days with titles….I’ll be 31 this week and am very grateful to have had a great father who introduced me to so many classic war films at a young age. This one is one of my favorites because it’s a big ”who done it” type film.

As a kid, I was afraid seeing all of the Germans converging on two guys trapped inside a castle, especially when every time one was cut down, another German soldier immediately took his place without even a second of hesitation. As an adult, I wonder if Danny Boy would still have provided transport for the team if Broadsword didn't "have it all."

Eastwood looked so youthful for so long. He's only 4½ years younger than Burton. And at 37, way too old to be the lieutenant he's playing.

Great movie. Adding “castle” to Schloss Adler is redundant. Nobody says “Castle Adler Castle.” Burton was completely pickled during the filming. That’s why he seems to be having so much fun in one scene but is stone faced in another. Eastwood couldn’t believe Burton’s capacity for vodka.

Burton was. Eastwood was paid 2/3 of Burton's salary. Also, the reason Eastwood did the film us that his agent wanted hum to be in a film with a senior actor.
