Just so you know, using original images in a journal you sell does not violate copyright laws. If you photocopy or scan the image and sell the copy or digital image, that is against the law. You don’t have the right to copy others’ work but you can use the original image in books you sell.
@CreatorsCall
@CreatorsCall Год назад
That's helpful information, thank you! 🥰
@uniquewhimsy622

@@CreatorsCall now a company may ask you not to use their original image in a book you sell (I have heard of Daphne’s Diary doing so) but they have no legal recourse if you decide to use it in your journals for sale. And of course, you can scan and copy anything you want for personal use. The issue is only when you try to sell a copied image without permission.

I’ve just discovered also from another creator’s video that you also have to be careful with junkmail. ie Travel brochures. Ooo I love Shakespeare .. TFS all those wonderful books.

I'm new to junk journaling and am learning so much from many channels. I wanted to share that I went to a local thrift store that benefits Veterans. They were having a book sale! 8/$2! I bought 15 books and a few piano music scores that were counted as "books". Among other things I found a beer taster's journal, a workbook on accounting practices full of ledgers, a performance journal (daily charts, lists, memos), an ancient dictionary, a few children's books, a book of bird pictures which I trimmed over half and a quilling book that is full of patterns/templates. SCORE!

Sounds like a treasure trove of wonderful journal supplies! We had a thrift store here benefitting vets that I loved to visit because I found so many terrific things there. Sadly, in the middle of moving locations, they shut down suddenly, never to be seen again. This has happened with several of my favorite independent thrift stores here. All closed before COVID so I can't blame the pandemic. I always found wonderful prices at the veterans charity and they were also willing to bargain if I saw better prices at nearby thrift stores. Have fun playing and creating with your goodies! 💖

WOW! Love the reusing books idea ... but when I tell people I love books, I mean I love them to the point, somebody else would have to do all the tearing up, because I might get sick! When I was a Girl Scout leader starting over 20 years ago, we get tons of free stuff. Printers gave away free paper cut-offs from their big jobs, all colors. The local newspaper gave us end rolls from printing the newspaper (one roll of blank newsprint had enough paper left on it for us to use the whole time my girls were GS - years and years!). We got free discontinued wallpaper books from Home Depot. Shoe stores were happy to give us their boxes because it saved them a trip to the dumpsters. I heard that upholstery places gave away their bits and pieces of fabric but I never asked. Joanns would give our Area office anything they had left over after a season. I doubt they do that anymore because, like Michael's, they probably put all the leftovers into big boxes and sell them to customers for a few bucks for each 'mystery' box. I found that stores were happy to give if I was asking for my troop, especially if they were just going to throw the stuff away. So, ASK - all they can say is no.

I have been working with junk journals for a little over a year. I volunteer in our local library’s used book sale room. I started teaching a monthly class on junk journaling and try to use only recycle supplies sans glue etc. I will be binge watching your channel to see how you use these supplies. Thanks! Some great ideas! I am trying to get rid of some things but end up second guessing. When I do throw it away, you can be sure that the very next day I have thought of what I COULD have used it for. 😅 I am relatively new (a few years now) @ Junk Journalling and need to be reminded of some of the great resources aka "garbage" or RRR stuff that I have and can use. I actually leaned forward, laughed and said, "oh my goodness. I remember that. " when you pulled out the "nylon/pantyhose repair kit" matchbook!
@CreatorsCall
@CreatorsCall 2 года назад
That's so funny that you recognized the nylon repair matchbook! I don't know when they stopped being made. This one belonged to my husband's elderly aunt. I think it's the cutest thing! As far as cleaning out goes, one strategy I've found helpful when I'm undecided about which things to toss, is to put the items I'm unsure about in a box, close it up and keep it out in the garage. I write an expiration date on the box of 3 months, 6 months or even a year out from when I put it in the box. Then, if I haven't needed/wanted to use those items by the time the expiration date hits, I donate the box. It's a kind of half-way measure that helps me purge. Once or twice I've needed to retrieve something from the box, but most of the time I'm happy to let it go after the waiting period. I have a video on decluttering you might find useful. I will link it below. Thank you so much for watching and commenting! 💖🤓Here's the video link on decluttering and purging. You have lots of journals just waiting to be made! I was thinking the same as you, so I did save some of the lace to use as a stencil for sprays and coffee dying. Good luck with your handmade paper project. I'm afraid I'm not that adventurous, but I applaud all those who are. 👍 TFW, Belinda!

Yeah the idea you had about reusing paper I do the same thing. I was going for treatments a few months ago and every time I went I had paper given to me with what was done when appointments were going to be next and I had like three or four or five papers stapled together and I just would tuck them in some place to keep them and I got to thinking their blank on the other side that's too good of paper to just throw away so I can use them in a journal that I put together and write on the back of them and some of them even have space where I can write on the front so I do my devotional that's what I write on I come across in the divorce more somewhere else over so I want to keep from scriptures by riton and yeah it's like I'm repurposing it and then when I'm ready to put more pages in I'm starting my run now I cut the paper down to use and I'm thinking because I got this really Elegance paper from 45 that I want to use for the front of the journal so I may be making a different one instead for using the one that I have a cover for this reusable from Tim Holtz so yeah I just I just got the younger to go through stuff and you just gave me some more ideas of things I can use cuz I was thinking you know I have old recipe books that not a lot of them but enough that I can take a page out and put it in for journaling and different stuff like that is so much fun to find stuff that maybe you'll even forgotten that you can use so I was like yeah praise the Lord and it doesn't cost me arm and leg. Which right now all kidding aside my left arm is healing from a shoulder replacement and I'm so thankful that I can still do some of my crappy I don't do a lot of scrapbooking but I make cards and I like to do the journals because I just like to write so I may just write a whole devotional out but I think the size just being is something that I may go back over and read again and remind myself what was said it's therapeutic writing is very therapeutic I don't know why I don't know how but that's as much a gift from God as anyting else is you have a wonderful day and thank you so much that you bring the Lord and Christian things into your channel I love that God bless you

Those are great uses for all the paper we tend to accumulate, especially the medical summaries we all get at the doctor's office these days. I also use the blank backs to print my taxes on for my records. I really like using the recipe binders for making journals too. They are my favorite ones to make! Thanks for watching and for your kind comments, Deborah!

I’m watching many videos before I begin doing this hobby I don’t feel comfortable about the tea or coffee staining. How else might one get the aged affect
@CreatorsCall
@CreatorsCall Год назад
I'm no expert, but some folks use food dyes or the distress inks. It might also be worth trying some RIT fabric dye. Also, check out videos on dying with spices, avocado dying (turns the pages pinkish) and other types of food items. Cabbage will turn it a dark purple which looks cool. Eco dying is another technique which uses leaves, flowers and other natural elements to stain the papers. Thanks for asking the question, Valorie! 💖.

How do you make modge-podge out of glue?
@CreatorsCall
@CreatorsCall 2 года назад
I use a 2:1 ratio of glue to water, 2 parts glue to 1 part water. Some people like to water it down further to a 1:1 ratio, half glue and half water. It just depends on how runny you like it. I use the Elmer's All Purpose glue and stock up when back-to-school sales are on. I find that it's not tacky after it dries. 😊

Yikes. I don't understand how you can rip a book like that apart... The Bible?? 😳 Seriously though.... teach me your ways. I have at least a dozen books that I can't find it within me to tear them apart. Also, I hope you didn't pay a whole lot for those butterfly stencils on eBay. Those came from the Dollar Tree. 😬👍 There's some great ideas here. Thank you for the inspiration.
@CreatorsCall

I think I talked about it in the video, but it gets easier to take books apart when you learn how much stuff winds up in the landfill, even when donated to a thrift store. Since these were old Bibles and books precious to family, and somewhat beat up, they likely would not sell at a thrift store. I feel like repurposing the pages in a useful way is much more honoring to the book, the previous owner, and to God. The Bible was originally comprised of individual scrolls, or "books", so it was already "apart". Here's an interesting fact: It was a librarian at the ancient library in Alexandria, Egypt who first compiled the Biblical writings into a single unit and arranged them in order. The purpose was to make it easier to locate and read the texts as a whole. I had a discussion thread about using Bibles in my journals on one of my videos. If I can find it, I will link it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sMbUJbNwWdQ.html 😄 Sadly, I discovered the truth about the stencils a few months later.... It really irks me when people purchase out of the cheap bins and jack up the prices to sell on-line. In this instance, she sent me the wrong stencil and then sent me the correct one, so I wound up with 2. It was almost the same cost as buying at DT.😄 Thanks for watching, Jenni. I appreciate your thoughtful comments. I'm glad you found some inspiration in this video. 🤗💕

@@CreatorsCall ooohhhh great feedback!! That's a really good point with the Bible💕 and the other books. Your book sounds amazing. I don't know if I could tear it up either.... I have on a couple of occasions, purchased two copies of a book I liked (always used books). I keep the nicer one for me and the more raggedy one I use for journals. It makes me happy both ways, happiness squared. 😊

@@mares4636 I haven't been able to either, and I still have that limited edition, leather bound, gold-leaf Opera book. 🤣 Also, last summer I acquired my grandfather's library. There are books in there that were published anywhere from 1880-1977. So, I've acquired another collection that I won't use. My grandfather grew up in Scotland, so a lot of these older books were published in the UK. There are books in there that he had as a kid, and actually some first editions, like all the Harvard classics, and 'How to Win Friends and Influence People' from 1935.🤷🏽‍♀️

That's the beauty of making junk journals though, isn't it? We can each use whatever we have available to create useful and beautiful works of art. We have the prerogative to use or not use certain items in our journals, which is in keeping with the nature of a junk journal. Every journal is unique, just like the person who made it. I trust that using bags from CFA was not the only point you took away from this video. 😀 TFW! 💖📚
