No new fresh server meaning people getting mob-tagged, released on a Thursday afternoon, simultaneously running to the SOD blood moon event and announcing experience buff for SOD next week. It is like someone at Blizzard wanted this to fail hard.

Everyone is playing SoD. Even on my RP server there are 12-14 layers on weekends, and 5-6 layers on weekdays.

as someone who is literally being logged into my HC character right now, this either came too soon or too late.. either way, releasing it while SoD is going in full hype was weird.

You can still group with other players, even non SSF players. So you can group with 60s and have them help you with stuff. Cheapens the whole thing.

Im not even sad that Hardcore is dead, I have so many fun and fond memories from the 6 months i played my rogue. Met all kinds of people and made bunch of friends, got to raid molten core and AQ20 too. It was glorious.

Too many classic variants killed Hardcore. Classic ERA. Classic ERA Hardcore. Classic ERA SSFHC. Classic WOTLK. Classic SoD. Then there's other all the private servers. The classic WoW community isn't big enough to populate this many iterations simultaneously.

I've been an ironman/hc player for a long time and the player base for those styles of playing, particularly in wow is prolly between 1000-5000 at most. Wow is VERY hard to HC solo and most people don't get get to level 60 without help. Truth is, people who play wow don't want a challenge. They want to enjoy playing with their friends and I think that is a good thing. SOD is insanely good, there is no way to deny that. I will enjoy HC because I play games to get away from people for a little bit. I have a large family and very social job, so for my unique situation, wow hc SSF is perfect. TLDR; Play whatever mode you like the best and be happy.

If in that game mode, one can take all the secondary jobs, I would really be interested, otherwise you lose many items in the game.

At this point this is not even a dead horse, it's like the bones of one, its gonna be stale, dry and the same for 20 years until it fades away, something interesting may happen during that time, but the only people around are the same ones that once loved the horse and are coming back to see and remember what it was. It can be an enjoyable experience if you have like 60 friends that want to play too I guess.

If I ever had a time machine, one of the things I would like to experience again is the vanilla to cata era. That was simply just amazing. No wonder people keep saying WoW is dead if you think back to these times and how the community was strong and how the game kept just gaining more and more active players for years on end.

If I play self found, I expect to play on a server dedicated to the self found experience, not an existing one. It defeats the purpose if my team and the people around me aren’t also engaging in the same activities.

There’s no point is self found when you can get carried. At the very least they could have implemented no grouping for people without the self found buff.

seems crazy from how it's worded that you can't even send or receive mail to a character on the same account. but then I guess it's designed to be more like your the last person alive type deal.

Guys remember that hard-core wasn’t just great because of streamers, the threat of losing everything actually made players treat each other differently from the normal World of Warcraft. When every player treated another player like a treasure and a friend immediately just because they were another person playing who was alive, the player to player interactions were extremely wholesome and all based around helping each other because it Could possibly lead to meeting them again in the future when you need their help yet again. Hard-core was good because it brought people together and it made people treat each other a bit more like humans a real, and actually dangerous world. Solo self found is the complete OPPOSITE of what made hardcore even slightly good. If they wanted to take hardcore in the right direction, it should have been to allow respawns from raid wipes but keep the live open world hardcore. -once people get to 60 they don’t want their hours lost. They still want to raid, and they want the clout of being a raider in a hard-core realm where you have to level to 60 without dying. But they don’t want to lose everything the second they died of some minor mechanic in a raid or some soon-to-be serial killer named tinyviolin. The way to do hard-core right, is to make the leveling experience hard-core but the endgame normal.

People just kept saying "Solo Self-Found" or "SSF" without thinking.

Hardcore’s actual popularity was a bit oversold by the streaming community. Loads of people tried it for sure, but that does mean it had staying power. Afterall, there’s only so many times you can loose hours of progress before you start to feel like your time is being wasted for little-to-no gain.

Turns out nobody is interested in hardcore WoW. A mode that was CLEARLY not compatible with this type of game. What a waste of development time.

Was it a big update? It's a mode to something people could already do ingame if they truly wanted to. A niche addition to an already niche portion of the playerbase

Blizzard didn't drop anything - no one picked up what they were offering. instead of it being a matter of Blizzard supplying wrong - it's actually a problem with demand.

When I was super into Hardcore, there were soooo many people whinging about the AH and trading and mail and they said it wasn't true hardcore and blah blah blah. Where are all of those people now that SSF is out?

That's taken from ironman in runescape, a mode which to this day I have no understanding of how it became so popular as it literally takes away almost every single aspect of an online game.

Tinyviolin in indirectly responsible for me quitting HC WoW. After I hit max level, I refused to do dungeons or raids with others on the chance they may be griefers like him. I just couldnt bring myself to do it and so I had to call it quits. Dude spent a year weaseling his way into a raiding guild just to grief them because some girl broke his heart, pathetic.

Weird. Hardcore WoW in Turtle is fine. Doesn't look like a year ago but still has a decent amount of players

This should have been added when HC first started and people were literally begging for this option, not 6 months later after boosters and gold sellers have already ruined the server and all the vanilla players have moved on to SoD. Also feel like they barely promoted this feature. Seems like they just kinda turned it on and said here ya go. It's cool it's there for people that want it but it's too little too late as far as reviving the HC hype.

Blizzard didn't "drop" any ball. This mode is just terrible. There is a SEVERE overestimation on some of these clown streamers' part in terms of interest in a HC server. The first HC server before self found was only ever FOTM for a month because it wasn't true HC, it was a casual friendly HC. Absolutely no one except people with severe autism wants true HC. HC is dead and for good reason, it's trash. Amazes me how he logs on this instead of the superior sod. These are the same few people who nut hugged era/hc and said tbc, wotlk, and now cata was "dead and going to fail". They were proven wrong in tbc, wotlk, will be proven wrong again in cata, and their fotm hc server AND era servers are completely dead, while SoD and even wotlk in the end phase lull is smashing it out of the park. Cope and seethe more, the players have spoken - unaltered vanilla WoW is the LAST thing they want.

Hardcore Classic is like a challenge mode, you go in to do the raid or fail. There is no hanging around they are playing just to raid and most likely their other non hardcore chars now

Hardcore was never going to live forever. Lose a level 60 character a couple of times and most are done. The people involved in wiping whole raid groups are what killed this faster. Hardcore was the only thing so far that recaptured what vanilla felt like to play.

Huh, I don’t know if people waited to start SF, but I did 8 days after launch, and am in a huge guild of SF players. I know there’s at least one other SF only guild, and it’s been a lot of fun!

Hardcore was always gonna be just a temporary thing. Nobody's gonna relevel over and over. It's fun once, maybe twice, then bb.

If it was self found, but not hardcore, and self-found for the entire server I would enjoy that and it would be my main game. But hardcore, and a toggle option is a no for me

I like SSF on games like PoE or Last Epoch. In fact I prefer Ruthless SSF Mode on PoE and wish it was on LE. But to me this doesn’t make sense on an MMORPG where a community trading together matters.
