I spent only 3 days at Shaolin and I didn't want to record every single moment. I tried my best to create a somewhat coherent & interesting video with the footage I had. Hopefully this gave you some small insights into what life/nature is like there.

This is my dream life as well. As a girl I was having problems in schools and dropped out when I was 14. Luckily my parents asked me to stay in a temple for three months (but not training for Kungfu), it opened my eyes for so many things and I felt unprecedented peaceful in my mind. I went back to school sense then. Now I'm 20 and trapped in daily trifles just like everyone does, but I cannot forget that sense of peaceful and wish to go back there again.

My guy, i've watched this video 3 times by now in less than 8 hours, i cannot emphasize enough the feeling i get from watching this and seeing your reactions, your expressions, i can almost feel the emotions, i'm going through a phase like the one you said on the first video about this, i've already went to college, i've already worked with something i didn't really wanted to and it felt terrible, i'm now doing something i love doing, but i'm still lost, this weird feeling, and i kid you not, when i was a kid i soooo wanted to train kung-fu (i just used to say kung-fu like in general), but where i live there's no such thing as a temple for me to go train, i wish i could go to the shaolin temple and stay there for a while like you, it's...idk...i'm almost crying from watching this video man, it hits me right in the feels, i wish...
@G0LD3NR0D
@G0LD3NR0D 6 лет назад
Beautiful. I've spent about 5 years periodically doing training under the guidance of Shi Yan Fan, who happens to be one of the incredibly rare westerners who complete the entire process and become ordained shaolin warrior monks (he also was one of the first in a LONG time to receive the Jieba, which is also impressive), and the experience I've had is NOTHING compared to what you have gone through. I feel that one of these days I will go to the temple and train there eventually, but until then, I will just have to keep working hard to reach that point. Huge props to you for going through with it.

Goosebumps man...and some manly tears... Aber jetzt ist gut, soll ja keine Liebeserklärung werden 🤣

Throughout my school life I was bullied. They mocked me because of my dark skin. And they use to beat me up. No one helped me. I made friends with some of my classmates thinking that they will help me. But when the bullies came they left me and joined the bullies to beat me up with them. Then I started learning kudo and karate. And I worked day and night to train myself. And then all my bullies avoided any conflict with me. Now I'm a black belt in karate and I know how it feels to be weak. But the truth is we are not weak its just a state to mind. So I thought of teaching everyone martial arts and rise above bullies. And started a RU-vid channel. Always remember YOU ARE NOT WEAK. YOU ARE MORE THAN WHAT YOU THINK YOURSELF TO BE. NEVER EVER GIVE UP.

found ranton through internet historian, subbed, adblock off. As a westerner that grew up obsessed with chinese martial arts it is interesting to see the perspective of someone who had the lifestyle and training that i so badly wanted, integrate into the life that grew up with. I am 41 now so when i trained as a child and young adult, the internet did not exist, so shaolin was this secretive place that i only ever had third hand information about. I could train 6 hours a week in an environment with other martial artists and then whatever i trained at home, and it cost money that my mother didnt have so i had to work outside school to pay for my tuition and equipment. You can never become great with such little time i dont think. Thanks for the awesome content.

As a shaolin kung fu practitioner myself, I have to ask... why did you leave at all? I know the western way of life is hard to let go, but was there a reason in particular? I'm currently stuck in my country, but I have considered many times to just let go of everything and dedicate my life whole-fully to kung fu.

I believe he has a video where he talks about those reasons,the main one being something he had no control over.

Does the color of your suit mean anything?
@RealRanton
@RealRanton 6 лет назад
Monks usually wear a grey-ish robes. Masters tend to wear brown occasionally. But its become very loosey-goosey. For some special ceremonies and kung fu performances the color/outfit is changed.

You can most likely practise kung fu + shaolin in your city, too, if it's a bigger city. You don't have got the temple and the mentality there, though, ofc.

I think the best insight you could give is just the video. The reactions the people gave when you visited were genuine. They remembered you for the best and worst of you, yet all of it equated to fond memories and treasured moments. Being who you are with no hidden agenda is perhaps the best insight the video can summarize to.

The first part of this video and this one especially was really quite moving and beautiful to watch, you can really tell your love for Shaolin and China and it was nice to see. I have been a fan for about 3 years and mainly watch the game reviews and podcasts, I often revisit them podcasts especially. I'm only just discovering your older content which has been a joy to watch. Thanks, Ranton :)
