The vast majority of Westeros follows the Seven, and the faith has become much more powerful thanks to Cersei's actions. And unlike Maegor, Stannis doesn't have a dragon to just one-hit-no-scope them all while they're in a sept.

@@nealfirstofhisname You make a good point in that the Faith is almost the strongest it's ever been since the Conquest, but we have seen that Stannis has no tolerance for the Seven against the Lord of Light (i.e., burning all of the statues in ACoK). Yes, he lets some of his men keep the faith. But this is only because 1.) he wouldn't have an army if he only had R'hllor followers and 2.) he doesn't care about religion himself nor what religion his men follow. I don't think Stannis ever does get the Iron Throne, but if he did he would fully support the Lord of Light and it would create a huge conflict with the Seven. The Battle of the Blackwater only gave credence to the Lord of Light after Melisandre's absence is seen as a giant contributor to the outcome in Stannis's eyes. An interesting development that I'm afraid we'll never see either way.

To be fair, stannis followed his brother, not the lord of the stormlands back then. And he hesitated greatly in even that.

@@alanbloch9924 This is another example of conflicting oaths, which the books are filled with. The Jaime dilemma. To king Aerys Targaryen (the king of the Seven Kingdoms) or to Lord Robert Baratheon (the lord of the Stormlands and his brother and family).

The thing isn’t just that Robert was his brother, but that he was the head of his house. When weighing up all the oaths it’s clear Stannis would have viewed that as the strongest duty, to follow the head of his house rather than his king.

Im pretty intrigued too because by the time Stannis defeats the Freys and Boltons, Faegon will have already been marching on Kingslanding and the Tyrell army led by Randal Tarly will be heading his way. So Stannis having around 10,000 men and marching south would be an upset and he could potentially gain allies in the Riverlands and Vale. I don't think he is an endgame character so I wonder how he dies. A sad ending for him I could imagine is that before he has a chance to march south, something big happens with the north. Maybe the Others finally cross the wall and Stannis is essentially the first King to meet them in battle and dies in the process and Jon takes up his mantle to gather everyone to fight them. I prefer this ending because Stannis goes out as being the King who saw the bigger threat to humanity and unfortunately is the first to die

You forget that Stannis is working together with the wildlings, at least Mance. There's still about 100 000 wildlings alive, and while only a portion are men capable of fighting, they are the most experienced group for winter warfare in all of Westeros. And Stannis might be building an alliance with the ironborn at the moment.

@@arvaakuka8568 like you said only a portion of them are men and not to mention that a great portion of those men were killed when stannis cavalry charged into them while Jon was having peace talks so if there were about 25K men (which seems reasonable and I got this number by using a population sorting methods historians use to determine how many people fought in migratory battles in our real world history) so now let’s say there’s 15K men many of which hate stannis at the moment and have had to join the watch, even still wildlings are ferocious but can’t compete with an actual organized southern army as we’ve seen every time the wildlings raided south and the starks and umbers destroyed them

@@Spongebrain97 Yeah with winter fully coming down on the North, I just don't see Stannis making it out. It doesn't matter what he promises them, most Northern Lords won't be willing to march South with Stannis in the snows of winter, especially knowing that 100,000 wildlings have been let through the Wall. The harder the terrain, the more the wildlings have the advantage. To leave their lands almost undefended on top of that would be too much. Stannis' only chance would be to use the Manderlys new fleet to sail south. And by the time he got there, most southern lords would have pledged to Faegon since Cersei has alienated every major ally, and they need help from someone to face Euron. And if Dragonstone really has been taken, he won't have a base of operations. Stannis really has nowhere to go after Winterfell. It's possible he'd still try to go, since he stands to be far more effective in the fight against the Others if he is king and can march the full might of Westeros to the North. And he needs to regain access to his obsidian mines on Dragonstone. I get the feeling Stannis' final battles will be against the Vale. Littlefinger intends to create a triple claim to the Vale, the North and the Riverlands through Sansa's marriage to Harry the heir, and if Rickon comes under Stannis' protection, that will be an inconvenience. Baelish will claim that this isn't truly Rickon, since it's believed Theon killed Bran and Rickon. And it fits thematically for Baelish to be the one to finish off Stannis, similar to how he was crucial to the downfall of Ned Stark. Baelish and Ned represented the best and words sides of the human race, showing how human greed destroys the good humanity could do. Stannis is similar. Yes he's far darker than Ned but ultimately he is still a very righteous character who stands to be one of the biggest assets to humanity's survival. Baelish killing Stannis would be on theme for human greed being self sabotaging. And it's also on theme for the political mastermind to destroy the military genius. I think as Stannis sails South, Baelish's forces will kill him and he'll try to absorb most of Stannis' army, then use the combined forces to try and take over the Riverlands. Although it's possible Baelish would want Stannis to make it back to the south in order to ensure more chaos to weaken all sides. So he might actually make an alliance with him to help retake Dragonstone, but also to have men close enough to Stannis to kill him when it's convenient.

@@Spongebrain97 a lot of people believe stannis will die fighting the white walkers and so do I partially but I just can’t imagine him dying, I feel like when he’s actually corned by people in person he’ll cut through them like carving a cake (shoe reference) and be pissed while doing it, I see stannis braking in every situation we’re death is nearby rather than submitting in any way, just like Noy said, if stannis dies, he’ll die fighting, same goes for Jaime even if he has one hand now

Well that's great for Stannis then, seeing as Melisandre is all on that "Stannis is the chosen one" kool aid, granted, given the clues that she'll sacrifice Shireen for Stannis to win and later revive Jon Snow (This would include clues in story, and the fact that GRRM straight up told D&D that 3 plot points in the books will be that Shireen is sacrificed and currently Shireen is with Melisandre far away fro Stannis's protection, and Jon Snow kills Daenerys meaning Jon Snow will have to be brought back to life), that might cause some problems if she realizes "Oh, actually the chosen one is Jon Snow" and then puts together that Stannis, the not so chosen one, is gonna be pissed once he figures out what she's done to his daughter, but Jon Snow is in good terms with Stannis so that would HOPEFULLY keep Melisandre from doing anything to harm the Mannis

lol My favorite part about Dany doing that is that she ensured that her entire khalasar, all her Dothraki followers, would die with her, as all bloodriders do; she engineered the first sui-genocide. And then, the Unsullied who survived went to Naath, fated to die from the butterfly fever, meaning all her followers from Essos were either killed or died shortly after her own death.

@@edwinsoto6932 my headcanon is that the dothraki kept reproducing in a super speed, factory-like fashion (so the ones we see passing by the same pier everyone is at the finale were born in westeros and already reached maturity, therefore are not bound to Dany's pact and so they can integrate in absolute peace). the unsullied however didn't pick the optimal route to get that upgrade, so they spent all their technology points on a basic mitosis perk that, unfortunately, won't be enough to save them from the butterflies :(

The other claimants aren't swearing their people in as Kingsguard yet. They're just picking 7 designated people to swear in once (if) they finally win the war. And honestly Robert's method was pretty stupid since he tended to pick incompetent people for his Kingsguard. Arys Oakheart and Mandon Moore are the two people he picked who were worthy to be one, the rest are clowns especially Blount.

There’s a theory that Loras didn’t actually do that and instead he went to fight the ironborn with the fleet he was given to assault dragon stone since his brother Garland is building up troops to fight them in the reach, also this would mean that Loras can’t defend Cersie in her trial so she has to count on Boros Blount or Meryn trant 2 fighters who could be easily killed at this point in the story, plus the details of the siege don’t make sense especially for what Loras dies during it

Stannis is Pure Iron. He'd break before he'd bend. Stannis would may not want the crown but it is his by right as it is demanded by both law and his duty. And knowing Stannis, he'd do his duty. His claim is legitimized by his brother Robert's Usurpation of Aegon and Dany's House of Targaryen. The very reason why the Barratheons became kings. Stannis would never parlay with any Targaryen. He'll break and fall before he'd bend.

@@dgrmn12345 Not exactly both Danereys and Aegon are also within there rights for Iron throne Robert never ended the Targs so considering Stannis was master of laws he must be well acquainted with it and if Long night made Stannis respect Danny and Aegon he might vacate his claim and I feel Stannis is not really Pure Iron as Donal Noye has said he's more or Stubborn steel especially DwD Stannis so I can see him bending if he get respect and a worthy Title that's if he survived the long night

To Stannis, none of it was personal. Only business. And being a King for him is business and it was his by law. A law that extends itself to Aegon and Dany who legitimately "lost" their claim after Robert Usurped them from the Throne and Westeros. Under the Baratheon's rule and by law, the Targaryens under Dany and Aegon are foreign invaders. Stannis's view in duty is absolute as shown when he was quick to call Robb Stark a rebel and a traitor for calling himself King despite the Boy's father, Ned Stark, telling Stannis of the Cersei's bastards and naming Stannis as the Heir. And how he respected Jaime enough to call him 'Ser' and a knight despite his obvious disdain for the man for both incest and kingslaying He'd accept and rewards turncloaks, criminals, and mercenaries to his ranks but only for a price, as shown when Davos, a criminal smuggler, paid with his finger joints but in turn rewards him with a knighthood. Robert was pure steel. Able to bend around rules so people would love him whilst able to be hard on his enemies thus making them fear him. Stannis is pure iron or raw steel. Hard. Cold. Immovable. That is his character. His death in the show (though entirely terrible) represents his character in its entirety. Dutiful to the end even in the face of death.

@@dgrmn12345 But there is a thing about Raw steel it can be bent at certain temperature and Stannis has bent many time in this story 1st when he accepted mel because of her usefulness even though half of his army fears her and most of lords hate her. 2nd when he decided to go to wall on Mel's insistence. 3rd when Jon snow decided to reject his proposal to make him legimate and still listened his counsel because he has come to respect him. 4th when he decided to go with northern clan rather than wildling and change his plan of attack because of jon and If Mel is as pious as she shows herself to be she will convince Stannis to make common cause with Dragons and I know Stannis will object their right to throne but If they earn his respect he's ready to make some tweaking in his mindset as shown in past also I find it hard believing that Stannis will survive to end of long night his character gives that "all done for naught vibes" like Ned,Rob and Danny(maybe)

There is a decent argument that Stannis (and Robert before him) has a stronger claim to the throne than Dany as a male Targaryen descendant. The royal prioritization of male heirs over female heirs is such that when Baelor died, his uncle Viserys II became king over the late king's daughters, apparently without a Great Council, based merely on precedent. That succession thus became further precedent, and the implications for the present is that Stannis probably has a stronger legal claim to the throne than Dany. And then there's the question of Aegon's legitimacy. If he is legitimate, while he may have a stronger claim to the Targaryen dynasty, Stannis's explicit claim is to the Baratheon dynasty (thus why he didn't declare Dany rightful queen of Westeros), so it doesn't mean much - they have dueling parallel claims that don't acknowledge the other's existence. And Stannis doesn't seem likely to abandon his duty just because he is treated with respect. However, if Aegon is actually a Blackfyre, then Stannis's claim to the Targaryen throne is stronger than either of theirs, anyway. If so, the idea Stannis would allow someone with a weaker claim to the throne to be king, well, look at Renly...
