Thank you everyone for watching! Sorry I’ve been gone for two months but I’m back to the grind and ready to do this all again! If you have any additional information regarding this pilot, feel free to reach me at my Twitter and IG @SewerReviewerrr. Thanks for watching, see you all next time!
I know where to see a 17 minute cam rip where the last few minutes that were lost are rebuilt with a few clips, scripts, and their own experience having watched the full thing.
Becky and Joseph hosted an event recently and answered some questions. Some folks who attended asked about the pilot. According to them, the creators had this to say: ~ they hate it and want to pretend it doesn't exist. ~ they felt the bigger setting of Clayhill and "South Park" style of storytelling didn't fit with the vision they had for DHMIS. ~ the American studio behind the pilot pressured them to make it topical (think "current events"). ~ the American studio also pushed them to have several RU-vid personalities cameo in the show. It sounds like other people wanted to make DHMIS fit their specific vision for the show without regard for what Becky and Joseph actually wanted to create. =( I don't blame theme for wanting to scrap that project and start over. No wonder it took so long to get the TV show off the ground. Still, I would love to see the pilot for myself, in the interest of preserving lost media... There's probably a rights issue keeping it under lock and key, alongside the creators' lack of interest in a release.
I do remember a Flim Theroy by MatPat where he theroized the trailer was on the nose with American poltics at the time (2016-2020). Long story short, Duck becomes Hollywood's version of Trump. EDIT: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UTlGQDF4aTQ.html&ab_channel=TheFilmTheorists
Yeah it was the first question someone asked them. They didn’t say they hated it. But they clearly didn’t think it fit the DHMIS world. They said they tried to cover current affairs and it just wasn’t right. They also said that they just couldn’t practically do current events, as the production takes too long, so it wouldn’t be current anymore.
"Keeping it under lock and key" *NEW! Security...Thing...* *...but that's not all, stupid! The security thing will also say the weather, play games, clean your corners and reveal the boy*
Wanna point out something The character next to Duck at 2:51, was actually repurposed into one of Yellow Guy’s Brain Friends in episode 4 of the Channel 4 series. Where he was named “Shy Imaginary Older Brother” The purple ball is also Mayor Pigface’s “special bowling ball” according to Duck in the pilot
I went to a Q&A session with Becky, Joe and Baker, plus some producers behind the show. I’m sad to say, they made it clear they would never officially release the pilot. It came across that they just weren’t happy with it, but are so pleased with the TV series. It’s incredibly unlikely we’ll get to see it.
@@maxx_espresso2508 No they didn’t confirm anything, but they certainly didn’t act like it was the end of the show either. I think they will make another season as long as it gets commissioned. But on the plus side. The new head of comedy at Channel 4 (the UK broadcasting company that partially funded the DHMIS production, as well as broadcasting the show in the UK) is a producer on the DHMIS TV show. The head of comedy is invested in the project.
@@michealrosen Yeah that was a nod that, to the public at least, the pilot no longer exists and we should stop asking them to show it, because they won't.
I'm pretty sure becky and joe said the reason they took down wakey wakey/arent releasing the pilot is because they REALLY don't like it, which is a shame imo
I can see the pilot being included in some sort of DVD/Blu-Ray extras, if the new show was to receive a physical release. Especially since Blink owns the pilot, and would likely be the ones creating and distributing any kind of physical release.
i am SO gonna get heat for this but honestly i prefer the dark comedy in the new series to the horror elements of the original. i love both with all my heart, each and every ventricle, but i feel like the new show having more humor leaves us room to see the characters being themselves moreso than you would get if it were more horror-themed dont get me wrong, it does still have its dark moments that harken back to the original, which i love! but ive always been down bad for character growth, and i feel like the new series is more tailored for just that, which i am more than pumped about!!
I too loved the horror from the original series, but I feel it wouldn’t really fit the full half-hour running time without going into torture-porn levels of fucking with the main cast
I agree, the 3 main characters kinda left no real impact within the og series as they were basically just there to experience the torture, in the new one we learn their personalities and how they feel about the cycle they're in.
I completely agree! I grew up with the web series and love the horror elements, but the television series is not only hilarious, but also makes each of the “three” into actual characters with personalities and feelings and some level of development, which I was surprised by but absolutely adore. I also find the “lore” stuff of the new series much more interesting than that of the original series, even though they can kind of overlap.
Oh absolutely, the tv show gives us so much more room for character personality, and with it we get more attached. They weren’t exactly blank slates, they all had personality from the beginning I think. But we get to actually see more of it.
Also, in the Transport episode of the TV Series when they’re driving in the car, Red guy types in “Clayhill” into the navigation device, but the device responds, “Sorry, that place doesn’t exist anymore”. Edit: I don’t wanna be like all those guys like but woah 100 likes thanks
The intro to the final show repeatedly stating that theres only 3 characters, Duck Guy killing the 2nd one of himself saying having 4 of them doesn't work, the lamp-shaped guy coming back as Yellow's "Shy imaginary older brother" also feel like direct jabs at the pilot lol
On the dhmis reddit FAQ page, the admins stated that the original leaker isn’t interested in leaking the whole pilot, meaning they most likely have more footage, just don’t want to release it. Which sucks, but I guess we just have to respect their wishes
Okay I hate people who do that (I have seen it so often with video games like old builds and just super rare games in general) like who cares this is about preservation of lost media what if the hard drive that has the pilot dies. Everyone should be able to experience it not just the leaker
@@bluefates58 yea I agree, it really sucks, I guess maybe they don’t want to receive backlash from the community or maybe even legal issues from the creators?
clayhill from the pilot is actually mentioned in the new series, episode 5 transport, the GPS asks if they want to go to clayhill, then states it no longer exsists
in a way i'm happy the TV series feels more like the OG shorts, but wakey wakey had me so incredibly curious for years...i respect becky and joe not wanting it to get out if they're not particularly proud of it, but part of me still really wants to see it just for the closure of finally seeing it great video, i'm on a big DHMIS kick and stuff like this scratches my brain v nicely
In episode five of the tv series, the GPS while in the car sequence tells red guy, after he clicks somewhere random to go, that "Clay hill" does not exist anymore. When he asks why, the GPS just says," It just shriveled up, I reckon."
I've seen bits and pieces of the pilot, as many have, and I think it's amazing! Really funny! Still, I do get why they'd want to change it and sort of pretend it never happened when they weren't happy with how it turned out. In this case, the creators definitely know best and have proven they 100% know what they're doing!
I'm so glad they were able to make the series they wanted to in the end. I also agree that setting the new show mostly in the house is a very good idea. It makes anything outside the house more special and makes the house feel more significant and important.
I did like the cheeky reference to the pilot in the transport episode where the sat nav wipes Clayhill off the map to stop the three guys from going there
If there was a second season could "Duck" be the one to break the boundaries of the show? In the web show it was Red, in the series it was Yellow. It would be interesting to see how he (basically being the oldest of the 3 characters) makes that separation between their "reality" and the "fiction" in a more meaningful way to the plot.
I would hope that that could be the case. Duck doesn’t seem to get as much focus or character growth as Red or Yellow, and I sometimes worry that the show is just going to keep him as a one-dimensional “oblivious” character, which really is not what I want because each of the three main characters having development and equal roles in the story sounds so much more satisfying. Also, Duck is hilarious! I hope that he gets an expanded role if there is a second season.
I do see the possibility of them releasing it in the future on homemedia releases as an extra of sorts cause it's no secret that they acknowledge people wanting to see again via the Travel episode as an easter egg and having a jab saying it’s not cannon.
Well even though I’m not the biggest fan of don’t hug me I’m scared but it’s kinda interesting that the pilot went missing. Specially since the pilot isn’t that old compared to most lost pilots I’m interested in (most of them are at least 10 years old) but I hope it gets found!
From what I recall, MatPat did a video breaking down that original trailer, where he came to the conclusion that the show was going to have Duck become a dictator, and obvious Trump stand-in. And given how now we know that the show was going to be “topical”, I think that MatPat was right for once, and I’m so god damn glad the creators scrapped it. Literally f*cking all of media was criticizing Trump at the time, so that original show would’ve just made DHMIS into another voice shouting into the wind, and, ironically, would have had the creator’s vision stolen and used to push another’s agenda, which many theorized was the point of the original series, post episode 1.
@@mykaruest3620 Not in regards to Fascism or authoritarianism which is what they were really about it can come from places other than Trump although he's responsible for that here and I do think it's important enough to address to a wider audience but not if its forced on the creators and impairs their work
@@mykaruest3620 For example all the 80s villains were basically Donald trump and topical at the time because he had a reputation for being a selfish rich guy so writers Often pictured a dystopian future with someone like him president dead ass
I absolutely love the final show, and can totally understand why the crew doesn't like the pilot. As interested as I am in seeing what we could've had (and being grateful we didnt get) I feel like people would try to find a way to canonize things in the pilot and mess with whatever actual lore we have for DHMIS, among other things
Honestly, I absolutely love the openings song. It’s so genuinely fun to listen to, and I hope we can at least get an official release of the song, just for fun.
It probably didn't help the satire of pilot's message aged like milk in the pandemic. Probably further cemented Becky and Joe's insistance on making it timeless.
I’m actually glad that the pilot isn’t the version we got I saw another yt video that said if the show was based on current events it wouldn’t even be relevant by the time it airs because unlike shows like South Park dhmis takes a long time to film. Although the fact that even the creators hate it makes me curious as to how it was like, I have some clips saved but I would like to watch the whole thing eventually. If there’s ever a dvd release or an anniversary special I wish they would consider releasing it as a bonus
the thing about film festivals, if they sold it to it, the festival might have the ownership of it this happens often, some projects don't ever see the light of day because festivals either extend the plans for a showcase at multiple festivals over the years, or the initial agreement was for the said project to be shown and distributed ONLY at the festival
Even as a non-canon addition, the pilot would be good for the fandom. Kind of like Doc & Mharty or the weird looking Adventure Time pilot, or the even weirder looking Steven Universe pilot.
Well, Duck does seem to make a dick joke in the transport episode. He just doesn't speak. Red: "look how excited I'm getting" Duck:*slowly looks down then back up*
i’ve seen the pilot. it’s about security. it starts with a similar theme song to the 4 series . i was about 15 when i watched so my memory is spotty. i remember there being a song about how much they love the town and the mayor. the duck then goes into the mayor office and sees him missing like in the wakey wakey short. my memory is spotty after this but the red guy leaves town to look for the mayor. after he finds him having a picnic or something they take him back and they run into this wacky guy who takes them to duck. minf blank after this
I saw it to I think I remember a little more than you but it's not perfect I'll list off what I remember. Everyone sings a song about how much the love Clayhill. The citizens introduce themselves in the song. Some are cute some are creepy. It is Yellow guys birthday which is why he wearing the 38 button. He is excited and sings about his birthday. Everyone ignores Yellow guy. The song ends at mayor Pigface introduction but he is not anywhere to be found. Everyone begins to panic. The main teacher of the pilot arrives. He is a giant key and his lesson is security. (I will refer to him as Key from now on). Key starts questioning people about the town and is disappointed in the towns lack of security. Key say he can fix their problems. Red guy being the only logical one says he's found Mayor Pigface footprints and they should follow them. Everyone ignores Red guy and is focus on Key. Red guy goes off to find Mayor Pigface alone. Key sings a song about security with a dope 2d animation music video. The song is filled with paranoia about criminals and outsiders ruining the town. Key convinces Duck that the town needs a new mayor and it should be him. Duck becomes the new mayor and under the guidance of Key turns Clayhill into a surveillance state. Cameras are everywhere and there are a bunch of rules. Yellow guy becomes angry. He hates all the rules of Duck's regime and no one acknowledged his birthday. A second teacher appears I think he was a energy drink can. (I'll refer to him as Energy). Energy tell Yellow guy about Punk lifestyle. Yellow guy joins Energy and becomes Punk. When yellow guy wants to start vandalizing and protest the system Energy refuses. It is revealed that Energy represents when a counter culture aesthetic is co-opted by corporations to sell products. after a long journey that I don't remember Red guy finds Mayor Pigface. Mayor Pigface tells Red guy he quit being mayor to become a hermit who lives in the woods. Red guy convinces mayor Pigface that being a hermit sucks and to return home. I don't remember but some how Red guy and Mayor Pigface defeat Key and convince Duck to step down as Mayor. Everyone is happy and celebrate Yellow guys birthday. The end
@@waynehayes912lil correction, not to be rude or anything: the Enegry guy was actually a bottle of Fizzy Milk (the drink on the show). I do believe there was some sort of dream sequence, but I'm not fully sure; just relaying on research, of course.
While Wakey Wakey may not have been what the creators wanted and I'm more then happy with the dont hug me im scared TV series we got. Part of me REALLY Hope's that we eventually get a release of wakey wakey maybe uploaded to the RU-vid channel or put in a blue ray Release or something because I've never wanted to see a piece of lost media more.
Becky Sloan pulled a gravity falls and put the car somewhere in the world and whoever finds it first apparently gets a reward, what if it’s the wakey wakey pilot?
I think the actual show may be better than the original plan. Sure, the pilot and possibly other original episodes that were supposed to be made had a bigger budget and may have had a fully fledged storyline, but the real show feels more like "What if DHMIS was an actual show". Maybe season 2 can expand upon the original idea, or having an episode about reboots and TV shows so they can make the pilot, but with more meta elements redone into it.
ill say one thing about the pilot, i think its for the better they toned down the amount of auto tune on ducks voice in the actual show because holy shit does it get grading in the pilot
This is a rare case of creators scrapping a pilot for the better! I'm so glad they decided to not make political/current events part of what we got, because at this point that shit is cringe. The show we got is so much more in tune with the web series that we already love and I can't wait for more~
A potential update: I have reached out to a man who goes by the name of TV Tunnel, A.K.A Media Garage about the pilot, so far, nobody has responded, BUT... This is the SAME GUY who found the lost pilot to the iCarly spinoff, Gibby! Now, some of you may think "But how would he have something from Warner Bros and Blink?" Well, he has stuff from EVERY Studio, from MTV, to Times Warner, and the list goes on and on! This could be freaking huge! Edit: he doesn't have it
@@detomnz2024 “This proves that’s Freddy Fazber may be coming to Minecraft after banging Mario’s mom in smash bro’s. But hey that’s just a theory. A GAME THEORY.”
if the creators think the pilot isn't good or isn't what they want dhmis to be, then so be it ! i absolutely LOVE what it is now and i'm sure the creators do too and i'm happy for that
I think it’s ridiculous that this was never released, it took work and is clearly well made, it’s not that hard to clarify that it has no connection to the current show
You know i hope that the full dhmis wakey wakey pilot will be found and uploaded on youtube in better high quality and hopefully the dhmis wakey wakey pilot would be on tv for all of us in America
I just noticed: the town from wakey wakey is called clayhill and in the tv show when the tree are on a toadtrip its being said that clayhill doesn’t exist anymore
When Yellow is in the Big Boy's room and he notices the actors and they notice him, you can see "Clayhill?" written on the board. Or something like that. So I don't think that Clayhill is gone forever.
They do make reference to clayhill in the transport episode as the sat nav references it saying it “no longer exists” and says “it just shrivelled up and died”
I'm actually really disappointed that Wakey Wakey got scrapped. I was never that into the original DHMIS but when I saw the trailer for the show I got so excited. I understand that it might've not been the right story to tell through the franchise but it had so much potential with more characters and more sets etc. Imagine if everyone disappeared and only the 3 main characters remained in the entire of Clayhill? There could even be people coming after them, maybe someone got rid of everyone else? That would be so creepy.
what if clayfield is season -1, the webseason is season 0, and the tv show is season 1 so they used to live in clayfield but due to some traumatic event the town was destroyed and the agent of the collapse was Lesly
Kind of off-topic but OMG I MISS SUPER DELUXE RU-vid CHANNEL. They were partially behind the last pilot however their own RU-vid channel was always so fun for young me and a lot of that content holds a lot of nostalgia because of the time that I watched it. It’s sad that they kind of wiped it off of the internet cuz 15 year old me used to love it lol
It's not lost media, there is some guy who have the entire pilot, the problem is 1) is obviusly low quality considering that is a recording on a phone 2) the few times that some dude try this out the video was copyrighted and it can't be share on youtube
I remember always watching wakey wakey on repeat waiting for the new dhmis to come out, I was a big fan ever since 2017 I think and wakey wakey gave me hope for at least some new news to come out, And I'm so glad the dhmis show came out I've been waiting for years!
i saw the pilot before the Wakey Wakey teaser was posted because there were potato camera recordings of it at some film festival online. some people had managed to compile the entire episode from those recordings and i watched that.
Although I would like to see the pilot just out of curiosity, I’m so glad that that’s not the direction the series went in! Besides the trailer, I also watched a leaked clip of the first five or so minutes, and it all felt really weird and off and almost too modern and snarky. Like, there was a dick joke! A duck dick joke, which just feels like shock value that’s below DHMIS. It had totally left the realm of “children’s show gone haywire,” which was part of what made it so fun and unique, and I’m beyond relieved that that’s what they ultimately wanted to do.
In episode 5 they tap on clayhill on the gps and the gps said “oh, that place doesn’t exist anymore” red guy says why and the gps replies with “it just kind of shrivelled up” probably hinting at the fact that the pilot is never coming back
It’s not fair when things are only available at some convention or festival. Not everyone can travel. Things like DHMIS and Sonic frontiers. It’s not fair that the wider public isn’t able to experience these pilots and demos.
I think they should make a dhmis dvd with the new series and add like a bonus content thing with the pilot like ren and stimpy did with that banned episode
I swear I actually did see the pilot. It was posted here on RU-vid by a user who watched it during a film festival (?), so the footage and sound was kinda bad. I do remember that it had a three sub plots revolving around each of the three main characters separately. I also do remember that Duck's plot revolved around him being mayor. I don't know if I'm going crazy, because I'm not sure if people saw it as well or I'm just imagining things. But as much to my knowledge I SWEAR I saw the pilot. Highly likely that vid is deleted now though. EDIT: Just learned that the creators hated the pilot, and for that I completely understand if they don't want to release it. Regardless, I'm happy that they finally got to create what was in their visions without intervention. The series is great, I recommend it to everyone! It's quite different from the RU-vid series, though. Won't share any spoilers, but please watch it!
I remember watching a poor quality version of the pilot on yt, I didn't mind it, but it didn't feel like DHMIS, the actual TV shows feels more in-line with the atmosphere of DHMIS
From what I saw of the pilot, it wasn't funny in the least and didn't have the charm or undertones that I'd expect from DHMIS. You can tell it was a product of unhappy labour and corporate meddling and the description of "tackling current events" is telling of it. Even if they uploaded the whole thing I likely won't bother watching it. It feels like a weird knock-off series.
It feels like you described DHMIS to someone without actually showing them the 6 episodes or being descriptive enough. but in all seriousness, i feel like the pilot’s strongest points were the music and visuals the rest just SCREAMS “corporate and political agenda”.
I believe that the wakey wakey pilot may be for a later seasons episode. I think it will be a single episode where clay hill is just another crazy nightmare that’ll end with them back inside their house like much of the first season
I did wonder if they were holding back the pilot for a DVD release of the TV show or something? But I think it's important to respect an artist's right not to release something that they don't think is good. I'd be mortified if every sketch I did get put out there, regardless of whether I thought it was any good.
I noticed that in the comments (or at least in one of the top comment chains), there are people who _still_ believe in the "media theory." Why? Shouldn't the fact that a TV series was being announced at all be the first sign that maybe that theory wasn't the intention? Plus, before the web series was over, the creators have publicly stated that they had interest in making it a TV show. What about Lesley? How does _she_ factor in all this?
I completely accept the creators decision to do things their own way and the new series is totally more like the original RU-vid videos and is very good but I love the leaked pilot. It's not really like the original but I just love it. I would have totally been fine with a series like that. I'd love them to release it on RU-vid with the caption that they decided this wasn't the right direction but wanted to give the fans the ability to see it
the only good part about the pilot seemed to be the wakey wakey song which ill miss. but the rest of it just looks awful in comparison to the actual show we got
Also, compared to the clips that I've seen of the pilot, the show gave us so many hilarious and memorable moments that make it far more worth it. Update: The more clips I see, the more I really start to realize how much I prefer the tv show we ended up getting. The pilot had no horror elements, just occasional dark or gross-out humor (and maybe that one creepy hallucination in the woods and the key screaming at Yellow Guy). It strayed too far from the original formula like removing the teachers (I realized just how much I missed the teachers), not being confined in the house and I wasn't a fan of the conventional narrative and conventional villain (the key really didn't do much for me and felt very out of place for DHMIS). It had funny moments and catchy songs, but even though I laughed at the funny moments, some of the comedy (aside from a few moments like in the opening song for instance), didn't feel like they belonged in Don't Hug Me I'm Scared. While the web series had comedy, the tv show amplified it in a way that felt natural. Scenes like the "security thing" gag, while hilarious, just don't fit DHMIS' style at all (and the less said about Duck's "obsession" with the mayor's bowling ball, the better. It's nothing like his obsession with his shredder). I always liked to compare the humor of the tv show to Flapjack in terms of its dark and surreal humor.
Calling it now the Pilot will be Adult Swim's April Fools Day Joke next year and it'll be to announce that the 6 episode series will be coming to Adult Swim.
