@@lehchok6309it’s supposed to be R Lee Ermey, the drill instructor from Full Metal Jacket. Legit guy who started acting because he sent in a tape, he didn’t have an actual part until Fallout Tactics though, this was just a guy imitating him
Drill Instructors are scary when they scream. They become terrifying when they calmly speak to you, especially when the occasion for doing so should have them puking out their lungs from yelling so hard.
I like to think that Dornan didn't just threw a random number of years to scare Chosen One but he actually calculated the time needed to pay for the armor because some privates really manage to lose 7ft power armor
given that he's a seargent, and not from personal experience but a friend who was in the marines, seargents tend to be the most creative with insulting you with facts. It's not a longshot that Dornan actually did the calculations for how long it would take a marine to pay off that suit with their average paycheck

I love how well this aged over the years and that no matter what you tell him he thinks you are a private who lost their armor cause he believes everything is an excuse
There is one thing you can tell him that will convince him it's not your fault... when you first meet him, you can tell him the base told you the power armor would be issued here, and he'll rant about paper shuffling jackasses at HQ instead of scolding you.
Fun fact if you talk to Dornan while wearing T-51B instead of APA or no PA at all, he continues to yell but not directly at the player. Instead venting about "paper-shuffling jackasses short changing me on supplies", before directing you to the armory in a raised tone. If you talk to the Quartermaster in T-51B as well, he says "No wonder you came here, need to upgrade from your tin-suit then?" And he lets you just snatch it from the armory lockers. This also fits what you see in the Oil Rig, the cadet barracks is full of T-51B wearing soldiers with weaker gear than the APA ones.
@@requiemagent3014 maybe if people stopped buying the poorly written games he’d actually give a damn and be forced to stop meanwhile he’s releasing Skyrim again and is about to implode everybody’s mod folder

@@Ja1sc3L113r I bet there is a calculator in those helmets, and this being -America- the enclave they probably have to disclose it on public record how much they cost
Maybe even more disturbing is the implication that Enclave Soldiers are only paid a little over 3 caps per month. A suit of advanced power armor is worth 20,000 caps, according to the wiki. 20,000 caps/500 years = 40 caps per year/12 = 3.33 caps per month.
I don’t know what’s funnier, the idea that Dornan did the mental arithmetic for the amount of years it’d take to pay off a suit, or the idea that he just has that already calculated on his desk or something and was itching for a moment to use it.
people say the enclave is evil, but when Dornan thinks you are a civilian....what does he do? just has you escorted off base without harm. That's nicer than if you are caught on a military base now or even prewar
Sergeant Dornan is unironically a true badass. He may be very strict and even aggressive at times, but deep down you know he takes his values very seriously and cares about his work.
Let me tell you guys, the first time I met this guy, my heart was thumping so hard because I thought I get discovered. And my last save was right inside this whole Enclave division. Turn out he's a good drill, tho I killed him afterward.
As someone who played Fallout 2 twice already, it felt like he wasn't speaking to the chosen one, It felt like he was speaking directly to me across the screen, screaming at me for not wearing power armor
A current us army E-2 private gets paid $2,000.70 a month (we'll round that to $2k) or in other words about $24,000 a year. We can therefore deduce, that a suit of power armor costs about $12,000,000 (24,000 x 500) which is substantially more that the cost of a US M1 Abrams at $8.92 million. This means that it is almost 3x cheaper to buy a brand new top of the line tank than it is to buy a suit of power armor. And for those fallout 4 fans who have a whole stash of like 16 power armor suits at red rocket, a US Navy frigate costs $870 million or in other words, about 73 suits of power armor.
Then just go to the closest tank factory, buy a brand new top of the line tank, and give it to the enclave. I'm sure they'll forgive you for "losing" the suit.
Player: ''Sir, I am only 20 years old'' Sergeant Arch Dornan: ''Oh, my mistake, you won't work here until you're 510 years old'' Player: ''Well I guess that's good'' Sergeant Arch Dornan: ''You will Instead be here until you are *530 YEARS OLD!''* Player: ''Well shit''
Wait, he assumes you "lost" your power armor? How the hell does he envision that happening? Whoops, I set this massive fusion-powered metal shell down on the table while I was making my morning toast, and then I was in a hurry so I ran out the door without realizing that I wasn't seven feet tall and encased in titanium.
This is a speech many youngins have had to listen to when they "lost" their rifles. Similar anyway. Truth is, they didnt actually lose them in the context of, put it down and it just vanished, like my friggin car keys, lighter, and occasionally my sanity... But in the context of...private left his rifle unattended. NCOs found it, and took it. Then made the poor bastards push until the Commander was tired... Or clean until their souls were sanitized... Or low crawl for so long, they actually started to believe theh were the sugar cookies they were being called... Among other things. So... The "lost" bit...does. ot surprise me at all.

I mean... "Many a deuce, have i dropped, that were greater, than the steaming pile of dog shit, you amount to currently private"....isnt too far off. I cracked a smile. Was getting roasted anyways. In another instance, I was told to drop and keep pushing til they came back. What seemed lke am eternity later, they came back and legit said they forgot i was there...and yes. I kept pushing. I paused a few times sure, but never dropped to my knees, and kept going to the best of my ability up until that point. So yeah...guess apocalypse was here 5 plus years ago. Again, it’s amazing how he knows the exact amount of Pay a low-Level guard makes, and how much a suit cost, and does some maths on the spot and then works it into his rant
I'm late, but I feel like it's, somehow, not the first time someone lost a suit of power armor. Some private probably took it off to pee, thought "eh, no one will notice I'm gone if I just let it stand here for a while, right?" and returning later only to see it gone.
@@BoldTintI remember when my uncle told me about a time in Nam when a private and a commanding officer some how lost a jeep a few miles outside of the base. A encalve soldier losing his power armor because of a pee break would be accurate to real soldiers
Honestly the black outlines on his visor just makes him even scarier than he is normally and thats even funnier because you can really see the anger under the armor from it.
This reminds me of when I played the fallout SS13 server and made the mistake of picking NCR recruit. The military larping was so hard. I picked a nickname instead of a boring name, which was perfectly normal, but a guy called me a snowflake and made me do RP push ups for it lol. Pretty ironic because in fallout, many people have nicknames even civilians. It just shows that alot of people just wanna RP the US army in fallout.
It isn't his job to search for intruders. Not to mention a civilian sneaking into the compound is far less likely than a new recruit being sent, with all of the patrols. And let us not forget he talks about being out of uniform only after you have given a password to the guard at the gate and established yourself as a new recruit.
I think he's exaggerating about the price, but I don't doubt for a second that the market cost for that Power Armor must be through the goddamn roof if you're looking at pre-War money. Even if you're not accounting for the utterly insane inflation that the pre-War states went through.
En realidad no , digo a un soldado estadounidense le pagan 24.000 dólares al año Eso es nada comparado con lo que puede costar tecnología militar . Y bueno ya después de la guerra es prácticamente irremplazable
I wonder what the economy and market would be like for the Enclave at that time. Superior: "Here's your salary for this last year." Soldier: "Yay" Superior: "...oh, and we cut any and all valid commercial industry, so you will have little to no places to spend it." Soldier: "..." (Something like that, I guess)
Yea, but when they don’t find it, Special Agent Frank Horrigan will be called in to fill in for Dornan as he would have to go to the med bay due to him yelling so much.
