Artists: Els Goos & Maude Freymond Wanner
Amidst the sacred confines of the Sint-Pieterschurch, the artistic convergence of Maude and Els shines through a collaborative installation.
“Maude and I crafted our installation by merging our paper designs. While Maude incorporated vertical lines into her concept, I integrated vertically stacked square frames.” Els Goos
Their combined vision finds inspiration in the church’s geometric beauty - from square floor tiles to red squares in the stained glass windows.
Yet, beyond the geometric allure, the church’s architecture held deeper meanings. The wall by the side entrance and the particular passageway for individuals with disabilities stirred emotions, particularly in Maude, inspiring her to reimagine the space through art.
Navigating through diverse perspectives and backgrounds, Maude shares, “Despite language barriers, our shared understanding, complementary techniques, attentive listening, moments of silence, and mutual respect guided our creative journey.”
Their artwork, showcasing intertwined squares emblematic of community structures, is bolstered by nature’s elements - birch and greenery. These interconnected motifs rise, echoing the Japanese sentiment of nature’s spiritual generosity.
