Right here on RU-vid . Look up popular commercials and click on the dialogue button on the bottom . It opens up the dialogue and you can copy and paste it into word documents. Just a few edits here and there and boom . Excellent working scripts
THANK YOU!! I took a leap of faith and now i'm trying to figure out how to record a reel! I've wanted to voice act forever and already know a lot of techniques, but never learned how to record them efficiently or showcase them in a demo! I'm feeling a lot more confident about making a reel this week~
It's mind blowing that nobody else thought of that. At least from all the videos I've watched, you've been the only one. Everyone else just says "google scripts". Thank you! Also, love your pets.
Thank you so much Gabrielle! I’m at the beginning of my new journey as a voice artist and I feel that this advice is one of the best pieces of advice thus far.
You had me at "hello" with all your pets!!!!!!!!! Omg how do you get anything done with such cuties around you? lol, thanks for the video by the way, hugely helpful, cheers :)
My favorite place to find "scripts" is just regular, vanilla, b-flat, Hollywood style PSA (Public Service Announcements). GREAT training for VO work for sure.
This was a wonderful tip, thank you so much. I've been recording Audiobooks for a year and a half and after building a recording booth in my garage to get a better sound I wanted some new samples to reflect this. Such a wonderful idea, so simple and yet so very affective. Thank you
A colleague and I actually were practicing reading ads from a 40 year old Playboy magazine. They don't make those cigarette and alcohol ads like they used too, anymore, when they were practically full articles. It was fun trying different styles, going crazy with the tones that were intended for the ad itself.
omg your pets are SO CUTE AND FLOOFY!! I am so glad I watched this before making a new commercial demo. I used to use Edge Studio's practice scripts for VO and put them on my channel several years ago but I never put them in a demo. lol I was just about to this year until I watched this video. Thank you for stopping me! 🤣
These are all great ideas! Owner manuals may not always work because the copy tends to lose a lot in the translation from whatever was the author’s first language. On the other hand, manuals could be a source for a comedy demo! LOL
Hey... U r hilarious.... N i love ur laughter... Apart from all the valuable information that u keep on giving in all ur videos... N i loved ur pets... Specially the huge pretty dog!!! Stay blessed...
So Wait...you can use ANYTHING? You don't get in trouble using other's people's work? Do I have to give any credit to anyone? Like say a romance novel...I can just read the novel, or take a paragraph for a demo?
Just came across your video. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I'm just putting my demo together and was getting a bit frustrated using 'sample' scripts that just didn't fit me. I know what to do now!!
Hi Gabrielle, I loved your video! My question is what about copyright infringement. How much has to be changed in a published piece so it's OK to use it in a demo?
hello, Are we able to use these Scripts from Magazines ads and Cereal boxes for Our Professional Voice over reel Demo? I am just making sure no legal issues arise Thank you kindly
I 25 years I have never heard of a legal issue from a demo. You only run this risk if you actually voiced a job and failed to get permission to use a sample from the final production. A demo is a sample of your skills. A demonstration. The worst possible thing that could happen is called a Cease and Desist. You comply and the issue is over. However i personally have never seen one issued for a demo.
sure - made-up scripts don't typically have the same impact unless they are really, really well written by someone who knows the genre. But yes you can transcribe and use material from just about anywhere for a sample. I believe I talk about that in the video.
I'll play Devil's advocate..... If the "words are not as important," then why does it matter if one uses common/overused scripts? (Not trying to be snarky, I do very much appreciate your tip about finding scripts in unusual places!)
Is it acceptable to do voiceover from a video game? Like lines from a game's characters? I aspire to do video game VO and I can't think of anything more fitting.
Yes - listen to gaming demos from pros - you'll hear samples from games. All voiceover demos are genre-specific and therefore must contain examples from the genre.
Would you say doing your “own” cover of a voice acted characters lines in any media like a cartoon or a video game is a big NO or would it be good practice?
Yeah but..... "practice" scripts maybe, but several of your examples ( if not all ), are using copyrighted material.... So I'm guessin' none of them could be actually used for a demo "reel".....No?
As a demo reel, they normally can be used unless they say something like "For internal use only" Remeber you are not selling with them, except yourself.
