I offer to coach for voice over to voice actors of any experience level. Just getting started? No problem.
I've worked with hundreds of voice over actors to improve their performance and their business strategies.
I won a major photography award in San Diego with a cheap ass digital camera because I understood the importance of natural light. Just saying. Awesome point Gabby!!
@@joywest1078 You need to build a sub-floor. Either as a permanent or non permanent structure IF you know for certain that the rumble is coming from the ground. You can build a booth ontop of hockey pucks as a nonpermanent solution if you can't permanently modify your space.
As a child of the 70s, I would have to say my favorite really developed character who was much different than the actor, was "The Fonz" (Fonzie- Happy Days- Henry Winkler).
Equipment matters! Seriously, that's a great point you made from the start of the video, that a lot of people make their voice sound worse by trying too hard to "improve" it. Listening is indeed just as important as anything when learning to improve the way you use your voice. As someone who has been doing professional acting, voice acting, narration, singing, and public speaking since 1980, I can say this: For anyone who is new to voice acting or any other field that requires voice talent, this is a super video, even an important video, to watch. The content is succinct and powerful.
Good stuff, and call me crazy - but at around 4:20ish - am I hearing the sound of a fan that randomly kicked into overdrive while recording - talking about photoshop for audio. Was that a secret hint? Or am I just being hyper aware? XD
Thank you! This is so helpful. I can't even count how many times I've re-recorded my little scripts I wrote for my website, and I'm in the process of recording and editing them once again as of yesterday! I got my studio just a little bit quieter and having even less reflections, so it feels like the stuff I have up now isn't good enough and will be replaced AGAIN! 😂
I'm so glad to hear you've had a good experience with them! I'm going to reach out for sure. I'm thinking of two sides of this, both for myself to get more volunteer opportunities, and for an org I work with. Earlier this year I started a volunteer narration program for a news publication in Washington. We have 8 narrators so far, but there are many more articles than we have narration capabilities for.
I found myself floundering yesterday making a short video holding my phone. I realized that not having my hands (and a stationary camera) made me a little nuts. At least I sounded mostly clear throughout 😂😂 Thanks for.posting this! 💪
I am going to focus on doing this. I think it’s helpful when the read requires more emotion but you are limited to a script that has too many words to read in the time requirement- in my opinion it’s a sign of amateurs trying to stuff too much content into a timed video- so I will let you know! Thank you Gabby for this scientific tip!!!
In M. Chekhovs "To the actor" there are several exercises on psychological gesture. I was shocked how it helped me. Now I have another issue - sometimes I hit the stand for text :-)
Love this idea too. Its a great example of bringing parties together, who might ordinarily find it very difficult to reach out to each other. Will sign up as soon as I get back from my dental appointment. Root canal work. Ugh. Thank gawd for drugs!
It's a brilliant thought. I've worked in other capacities for non-profits that say one thing and do another, though, and see so many examples beyond those experiences. It's disheartening that it's more about chasing the money, so much of it being consumed by administration, and the funders dictating the direction the non-profits go in--so far as the PR goes, anyway.
Are AI voices really that good? Isn’t that scary because if they sound exactly like us except for the breaths, can’t they just add AI breaths too?!!😬Sorry to be so negative.
Hey Gab, I’ve been approached to record a catalogue of meditations for a new application. I can’t find anything about how much I should charge on the GVAA guide. Is there something it’s comparable to?
This seems so obvious, but it's absolutely something I've had to practice! It's easier now but it's like speedreading, a learned skill! Gabbi is always up with the good stuff!
This autumn I’ve finished a 3 month VA course. What I’ve realized shortly after is that I definitely need to up my acting and learn the very basics, like scenic speech. And I’ve gone to a child acting school and played in a school theatre, performed as a guitarist for a while and then done some comedy and standup! Only after 10 months of constant practicing I’m finally tolerable for a role of supporting character. The demo from that course is only good for one thing - I can listen to it once again and realize that I’ve made progress.
Hmm.. I dare to defy the anti coach .. years of reading to kids in class , training, coaching and podcasting etc.. yet, as a semi introvert.. home space learning is a yes.. yet, an acting class would be a version of hell for me, by comparison😂.. will keep my eyes open for a good acting coach:))..
I came from a different background but there were a large amount of parallels. I spent 10 years as a personal tour guide. 2 to 3 tours a day, first could be to a regular family, second to subject knowledgeable professionals, third could be to school kids. You had to pitch and deliver basically the same information in so many different ways, reformating on the fly to different audiences. The experience has served my surprisingly well! Each tour was effectively a 'performance'.
