Love this Tom. Thank you! Would you ever consider doing a tour of the best mom and pop coffee shops or delis? Or maybe even a tour of public restrooms one could use would be nice. Every time I'm there I swear to God I almost pee my pants when I'm away from our hotel because even if I buy something from a CVS or Duane Reade their restroom is off limits or "not in service."

What I do is go to a Barnes & Noble if one is nearby - their restrooms are always accessible. I went to a Target restroom as well. Some of the parks have restrooms too but many of them are nasty - although the Bryant Park one is nice. But yeah, that's one annoying thing about NYC - it's hard to find a public restroom.

@@Alex-fx5es Thank you, Alex! Great suggestions. The only luck I found was at Starbucks and a hotel lobby. I've actually gone into a bar and ordered a drink just to use their restroom before, too. Lol

Bedi - Makky , Thank You for making the repairs (especially the missing Bayonet) on the Washington Heights - Inwood World War Mouument (WW I) at 167th Street, where Broadway meets St. Nicholas Avenue. BTW - few people know that the Center Figure of the 3 Wounded Soldiers, sculpted by Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, was "Charles Atlas".

@@billmakky6642 This person's comment really piqued my interest so I had to look up. Holy smokes, what a visceral monument! And 100 years old as of just a few weeks ago. Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney's sculpture, and its three distinct servicemen, manage to capture a wide array of the palpable feelings, emotions, brutalities, and realities of war with a uniquely raw honesty. Or rather, it stirred those feelings in myself, at least, as I've never experienced war first hand. Once again: HOLY SMOKES.

I think he's gone up there once or twice. If I remember correctly, he did an episode about "the real Little Italy" a while back. I seem to recall watching it the day Italy won the Euros. (It had been released long before that day, I just happened to watch it on the very day Italy beat England in the final last summer.) I've been harping on him to go to City Island. It's such a unique part of the city.

Make sure you use goggles when grinding. I had a shard of steel fly up into my eye while grinding some steel weld and I left it alone until on a Fourth of July, I complained. HURT LIKE HELL! This was in prison. Took me to a hospital and a doctor had to use glasses at least 1" thick so that he could SEE the barb and use a scalpel to scrape it out.

Howzabout on your list of places to visit an artsy-farty tour of historical nyc artists studio, ie. Keith Haring, Gertude Vanderbilt Whitney (name came up in these comments), Isamu Noguchi, even the Arts Students League on W57st.? Might appeal to wannabe artists in your favorite gentrified neighborhoods. :) 69th Regiment Amory on Lexington Ave. where the 1913 Amory Show occurred might be a little vague for most.
