I placed my boost at the ende of the effects loop and I loved it, for solos is great ..!! specially when you have a parallel effects loop..

I use the Vertex Boost V2 first in my FX loop with an expression pedal. I set the Boost at 12db above unity gain, which would complete toe down position. I only go to 12db when using my Shin Ei TR6 (which if you are familiar with has terrible drop out volume issues). I think the world of this pedal. It's a tool for your entire rig...not just an effects pedal. I play through an Orange Rocker 15 Terror. Using the dirty channel, use an Ikon pre gain and then use the Boost with the toe at 8db (maybe ...guesstimate). It's magical. I love it!

The lick at 6:50 🙌🏼He came to my house once when I worked for Suhr cause we gave him some Aldrich pickups for his LP. When he came by to get them, I was like "Ive got a Goldtop with em, if you want to check it out", and he blasted away through my OD-100... my neighbors must have thought I got some lessons or something 🤣

Very cool, really dig JD’s playing and have never thought of putting a boost in the effects loop. I use my boost post my drives. Have always wanted to try a vertex boost and definitely adding to my “list”. Thanks for the great video. 👌🏻😎🎸👍🏻

Fantastic video one a superb, highly recommended boost pedal. I wonder, while pre-preamp boosting with boost pedals is well known (saturating, to your desired level, e.g. 12AX7's), when the boost pedal in in the FX loop are you also looking to saturate the poweramp tubes (e.g. 6L6 / EL34's)? - to give a different, more subtle saturation effect? though if yes, I'd imagine that might play havoc with final volume unless you're attenuating such a patch also?

I keep my Vertex Boost on at all times as it makes everything sound better! Mine is after all drive/gain pedals & before delay & phase shifter. I don’t want it boosting my drive pedals & also use drive/gain features on my amps.

I use a Mesa High wire in/out buffer (one you recommended at one stage), with various pedals in its loop. That includes a EB volume pedal and the buffer seems to keep the tone intact. Would your Buffer (activated with the volume pedal inside that loop) add something or actually detract/be overkill (buffer within the buffered loop?).

The Buffer from the High Wire can't supersede the buffers in your pedals or pedals that are on and how they impact the impedance hitting the volume pedal. For this reason, the Boost is pretty much imperative if you plan to have a Boost and a VP in the same rig. The Mesa won't do much to impact the volume pedal on most ordinary rigs because they'll presumably be other pedals on or buffered following the High Wire send. So, to answer your questions, the Boost with VP connected will help, not hurt.

He's mostly using the Friedman BE 100 on the clean channel. We also used a Marshall JMP50 from '78 for the lead tone.

Great sound. I use a Katana clean boost at end of chain for leads however miss that fat tone I front. Using a pedal switcher Moen Gec 9 and all slots filled how would u recommend that?

I suppose you get another boost, like the Vertex up front before the switcher...also the Vertex Boost is a high quality buffer which would be ideal for loading your guitar pickups and creating a low output impedance for the rest of the rig.

mesa single rec has a solo, clean master volume increase. i put my clean boost with a mid bump pre gain. fills out tone for single notes/solos.

interested in this for fx loop use. my 2 questions. 1; if using 4 cable method with a dly and verb, do you put the boost last or first ? 2: if you use the volume expression with the above method. what technique might i use to return the pedal to nominal volume vs boost since the heel of the pedal always takes the volume to zero?

I put the boost first. FX Send, Boost (with VP connected), Time Based Effects (Reverb, Delay), FX Return. Volume will be at zero in this position but you'll get your reverb and delay trails still when you go to the heel position.

Mason, a question for you. I am buying cable, plugs, etc., from Best-tronics (BTPA. Thanks for the tip!). Just curious - in terms of the pedalboard cable, do you have a preference between the Mogami stuff (2314, 2319, etc.) and the in house Best-tronics cable? Thanks again for the tip - the SP400 plugs look killer!

I think they're all just stock Gibson guitars...even his #1 is just an off the shelf Les Paul that he got at Guitar Center when he was going to MI.

It does great! You could use it to hit the front end harder or just as a clean volume boost to add more amp output to your signal.

Any break up wouldn’t be from the pedal, it may be from the preamp section of the amplifier being over driven by having a lot of output

why cant he tweak the amp and get the same sound as with the boost going in to the front of the amp? what is the boost doing that the amp can't?

You might be able to use more preamp volume to get there but that doesn't work if you're 50 ft from your amp as most players are during a gig - so being able to go there instantly without changing the character of the amp is critical for leads/solos.
