I was born in Yugoslavia (Serbia ), grew up in Germany and moved to USA 🇺🇸/ MIAMI . I travelled the world extensively and I fully believe it’s 🇷🇸 SERBIA / Belgrade for lifestyle, geographically perfect , housing , and so on .... My other half is from Montenegro ( I call it south Serbia ) , a great place to enjoy the summer.... a beautiful house on the mountains with ocean view , maybe for around 50-100.000usd ....
Totally agree with you. My parents are from Bosnia and Serbia (mixed marriage) I was born in Germany and grew up in Serbia until the age of 24. I now live in NJ (for past 26 years) and looking into going back to Serbia. As we both know, people are great and heartwarming, real estate is very affordable and before buying it pays to rent first (less than $200 month). Food? Food is cheap and to die for. There's something for everyone, no matter the taste or eating habits. To everyone reading this comment: welcome to Serbia!

Michigan Ave is still nice, but the greater area has gone down and taxes in ILL are awful - why it has the highest pct of people leaving any state, and weather sucks!
@@simplyunrelated I agree it may be viable. As a half Croat myself I visited Belgrade a few years back and actually had a lot of fun there. I can relate a lot in spite of my deficient command of he language, but at least enough to get by. Croatia real estate prices are beyond insane these days. I made the big mistake of buying real estate in Spain, taxes there are insane.
Sound advice. I have lived in 6 countries on 3 continents and I'd just add this: 1) Pick a small city, oftentimes being just an hour away from a major city will spell a great cost/benefit improvement. 2) If you have little to no experience living in very different cultures, stay close to home. You could pick a small city within your own country, in a more rural setting and have the best of both worlds. If you are adventurous you could live like an emperor on 200K, but like a local rural emperor, that is, local heath care, local food and clothing, few (if any) people speaking English, limited travel, modest cars, etc. Remember, a Ford Explorer is considered a luxury car in 70% of the world. If you plan on taking your Bentley to a rural setting in Colombia, the closest dealer will be thousands of miles away.
Generally great advice. The costs are increasing in Asia. Philippines, Penang Malaysia and Vietnam are still good places. I absolutely disagree on buying a home...rent. Most foreign real estate is easy in....hard out. If you have very little travel experience do not "peel off 100-200k" to buy a house....rent for at least one year, ideally longer. Most expats do not last beyond 7 years. Rent is incredibly good value in all of the low cost countries and gives you amazing flexibility. Do not discount language barriers, safety issues of latin America. My two cents after traveling to 115 countries.( My pick is Penang as a base)
I live better than a King here in Vietnam . 6 years ago I married a fantastic Vietnamese lady . After some astute property purchases we have built a debt free multimillion $ business. Vietnam is set to become at the very least an economic superpower in Asia. Vietnam is full of wonderful self reliant people . The people in Northern Vietnam are a lot less friendly than people in the South. Hanoi and the cities/areas nearby are very distrustful of foreigners due to the strong communist influence. You will be watched there. 👎
I moved there but couldn’t stand the constant noise. Wouldn’t risk driving either, Then the language barriers, Cultural challenges So back home to England and living on less (on a Western / carnivore diet) Glad I didn’t buy property, but there was money to be made after China started to move production there to avoid sanctions.
I think the first thing someone needs to decide is whether or not they want to live in a large urban center or if they would prefer a smaller, quieter community. Not needing to be in the most convenient part of a large city will offer more possibilities to get great value for your money.

I’ve never bought such a place because I’ve not fell in love with another place like I did with Budapest. I’m a real estate developer / investor and have been for a long time and selling my apartment in Budapest on the Danube facing the palace is thee only piece of real estate I have ever regretted selling in my life...... Budapest is an truly awesome place
donkeyenvious I bought an apartment in 2001 on terez korut and I had it until 2006 then I bought an apartment in a building directly facing the palace on the pest side next door to the Marriott hotel , it’s the only apartment building on that stretch facing the palace , it’s hotels left and right of it. It was a world class price of property with all its views and I should not of sold but hey ho such is life. For me Budapest was a place to relax in between my busy work life . I would if typically went and went to the baths and all the usual things you’d do in a city however Budapest’s like Paris without the high prices and massive crowds .... where you from? You folks might ALSO want to consider where is SAFEST should the SHTF. Millions in the bank don’t matter if in a country where you could be deported or worse should things go south.
Believe it or not I’m back in Michiana after 35 years in Chicago. It’s two hours to go back to Chicago for when it reopens. There are lovely beaches , cheap houses and farms. It’s a wonderful area year round. Doctors are fantastic. Notre dame university offers football and concerts. You can zoom to meetings from here. It’s a quick flight to Florida or Mexico or a cruise in February. There are vineyards and fruit areas all around. Michigan doesn’t tax your 401 k withdrawals. The property taxes are nothing compared to Illinois and Chicago area. Sometimes you don’t have to go to the Ukraine or Belorussia to retire. My relatives that were left there were put into pits in the forest with bullets unless they won a train ticket to treblinka. Healthcare is wonderful here. I’m doing orthopedics in south bend with wonderful doctors. You either pay cheaply through the exchange or you get Medicare when you are old enough. I’ve been through the Panama Canal Mexico and lots of central America. I love visiting Europe. But you don’t need to give up your citizenship to live in Belize or Serbia or Malaysia. You can reside in the us and travel during winter comfortably.
Dad moved to Zihuatanejo, Mexico and mom to Altea, Spain and they Love it! Good pricing, secure, lovely weather, nice culture and friendly people. I live in Sweden, but planning to move to one of those places in the future.

Warm weather and proximity to kids & grandkids is important for me. So, I'm looking at Mexico, Panama & Costa Rica. Not the cheapest, but some places are very affordable. Weather is great and flights to the U.S. are direct and readily available.
Also helps you up sticks and move on if you want/need to. Many people got stuck with property in Spain and Thailand to mention but two countries in the past 15 years.
For me, part of living like a king is having someone else worry about house repairs, upkeep, the neighborhood, and taxes. I love renting. And, when I get tired of a place I just pack up and head out for new adventures.
Not true, owning a house it’s always better, especially when it’s in a good place and you can sell it for more years later, and why make someone else rich every month? you’re losing all that money, where if you bought, you’ll get that money back.
As someone who's been coming to Cambodia since 2003 & moved here in September of 2019, I have this to say: While it's correct to say that land prices have gone up, the same doesn't hold true for rents, which are for units in mostly already existing apartments anyway. In addition, a decent income here for a local is $300. There isn't much room to go up. Also, demand for new apartments is down, as is the economy. Furthermore, prices outside the capital are lower still. You can still find a nice apartment - basically your own small house for $150 in say, Kampot.
And 6percent interest on a mil will give you 60,000 usd a year, good enough to spend 5,000 bucks a month on rent and food and save the remaining for more banking!!
Married a Ukrainian women 15 years ago. Have a apartment paid for In Southern Ukraine. Very cheap to live. Went from 5 hyvnia per dollar to 26 hyvnia per dollar. The country is a screwed up and corrupted but the women are beautiful.

You shouldn't go by the nominal interest rate but by the real rate. If the 10% interest rate in Georgia is accompanied by 8% inflation, you should consume only the 2% real plus maybe a little bit from capital depletion.
Greece. Being Greek I know you can live very well with a million dollars. If you do the 4% rule (basically buy dividend aristocrat stocks that pay more than 4% in dividend yield) you can live very well in Greece at about 3K Euros a month.
You can live like a King in parts of Thailand and Vietnam. The problem is the really long flights if you want to come back to N. America once or twice a year. For places closer to home, Mexico, Cuba, Costa Rica and yes Colombia are also definite possibilities, although getting residency may not be that easy. If you can stand the really hot climate Belize is a great place, with the added bonus that everyone speaks English.
I've never planned for anything in life, and suddenly I found myself living back in Jakarta, Indonesia, my own country and in a Balinese villa after having lived all over the world with my late Italian husband who I lost 5 years ago. I remember I didn't even understand pension as I've always been a home maker. After giving up Italy a year ago, so far, it was the right decision as to return here living on my dearest late husband's pension where thank God, the villa that has market price of 1 million is owned outright by me. However, I am paying stogare in Milan that I wish I don't have to so I do live frugally. Unless someone offers me the right price to my house I am open to sell. If not, I have an ongoing BnB business albeit not a consistent monthly income.
Focusing ONLY on the money side of things is very misleading. Whatever country you choose, you'd better be able to learn the local language and be in a culture that appreciates foreigners moving in else you will never get a sense of belonging. Also, some of these countries are so boring after a while that you would feel trapped, and Tbilisi is one of those places. All the money in the world won't make you feel like a king there unless you are Georgian or Russian. It's all about the feeling Andrew, not the dollars in the bank account.

Mine are: 1- weather/climate: should not be too hot/humid or cold 2- high standard of healthcare (i.e. like Japan or Germany) 3- safety 4- food safety, clean water, etc 5- language 6- modern infrastructure, housing and facilities 7- cost of living 8- loneliness, homesickness factor 9- food, cuisine 10- availability of products 11- racism (foreigner factor), friendliness of people 12- beautiful women :) 13- no snakes, spiders, lizards, scorpions 14- tax friendliness 15- would I live there if money was not an issue?

There are many places in the US you could live comfortably on the dividends of 1 million. That is low enough to be nearly tax free. Many other countries don’t have the same level of stability in real estate laws.
There are a lot of people that would love to retire in Africa. Especially Southern Africa. I don’t think you have travelled Africa enough and just have an opinion based on stereotypes. Look at Namibia for example. I’d love to retire there some day.
The US is one of the worst countries in the world for women. The odd good one but generally very poor. Try Russia, St Petersberg specifically. 75% of women are beautiful and friendly

South east Spain, nice villa with pool near the beach for 200k easily. 3 course meal for 10 dollars with wine... 3 best healthcare in the world! I don´t see the need to go so far into eastern Europe to find amazing places for nomads. Did i mention 320 days of sunshine and the best climate in mainland Europe. And crime is very low and the court system actually work if you get the short end of a stick one day. Low taxes, and if you just want to rent, you can rent a small apartment for as low as 200-300$ a month in decent areas.
I like the idea of Spain. I have never been there but from what I have seen on TV property shows, the golf courses are amazing and the weather is great. I was in the Algarve a few years ago and it was lovely. If Spain is anything like that, which I believe it will be, I could definitely choose Spain as a place to live. One minor correction, people want to live in Namibia, not everyone knows about it, but German, Dutch, South African expats love Namibia, check out the town of Swapkomund and tell me you could not live there. It's not super cheap, but with 200k USD and 35k a year income it is amazing. Keep up the good content!
I had the exact same thought! I was lucky enough to be stuck in Swakopmund during the COVID lockdown for 4 months. Had the best time ever there even though there was a pandemic. Quality of life is very good if you have western currencies. Namibia is a dream and very attractive for western retirees and other parts of Africa are not bad either. I don’t think he has seen much of Africa.

I live in Colombia and I have found it to be very inexpensive, but in in Colombia there are cities that are super cheap and there are places like Medellin or Cartagena that can be quite pricey. The advantage that Colombia has is it's extraordinary diversity.

If you want a normal middle class life after 40 you can live on a million dollars if you own a house. Because the million should be used up by the age of 85. There is no point in having a million in the bank when you are dead.
I think you’re spot on. I am just now finishing the process of getting my dual citizenship with Bulgaria (I’m American but my parents are Bulgarian) and while I know you’re not a fan of BG, it has those same benefits that you see in the other Eastern European countries. I have this dream of accomplishing this hack but I’m by no means a 6 figure entrepreneur. Currently I’m a data scientist but I definitely have some business ideas. Still young so we shall see...

If you live off the interest, how long you live doesn't matter except in terms of future-proofing against inflation. What you define as "king" living is, of course, up to you.

I can go roadside to have an excellent Bang Mi for breakfast USD$1, lunch at a unique vegetarian restaurant USD $3 , overlooking a beautiful river vista with bright sunset , dinner for USD 6 . A wide range of vegetables and fruit mostly organic at our local market are abundant and inexpensive compared to most western countries. Many purchases here would be up to 10 times less cost than in New Zealand . 😊

You’re missing a HUGE point! Places that offer 10% interest in the bank have inflation of 2-3 times that. It would be actually TERRIBLE advice to tell someone to exchange their dollar to local currency and put it in the bank for the interest.
Agreed. The "Interest Rate Parity Theorem" says exactly that. Rather do as Andrew says and keep your funds in a 'stable' currency and then draw down what you need to live and keep say one year's worth of living expenses in a local bank and the rest invested elsewhere.
Turkey is the real answer. USD/TRY is high, actually very high if you examine the prices in TRY, so consider that million as 5 milllions already. Housing bubble burst, prices are going down, the government gives you citizenship for buying a house for $250k with which you can buy a very, very luxurious apartment in Istanbul. Healthcare (private) quality is high, prices are very low, insurance is very cheap, pharmaceuticals are ultra cheap, google it if you don't believe me. Education is very bad but that shouldn't be a matter for you. Taxes are not low but why would you care? After buying a house, a car, some amount of gold; just spare some cash and convert your money to TRY, then put it on interest (rate is %20 right now) and start living like kings.
@@brianpan6453 I don't know anything about Eastern Europe but thinking the prices in Turkey in TRY and the USD/TRY ratio, it's impossible for EE to be cheaper. Maybe I cannot describe it clearly: Think about it like this: Let's say USD/(Some Currency of Some Country) is 40 ($1=40 SCoSC), very high number right? And also for example a small chocolate bar's price in that country is 40 SCoSC ($1), so that high ratio is just meaningless, right? It's nothing like this: USD/TRY is 5.9 right now but for example $30 lunch in US may be 40 TRY in here, sometimes even lower depending on the menu and where you eat it. Electronics, cars and some other (rarely bought) items are exceptions, but as far as I see numbers are generally close. In my opinion clothes are okay, not very cheap but OK. Renting: you can rent a big, beautiful, luxury apartment in Istanbul (BY FAR MOST EXPENSIVE in Turkey) with $700-1000 a month but $400-500 would be enough for a small-to-medium size, relatively new apartment. A rich, special dinner in a very good restaurant maybe costs you 60-90 TRY ($10-16~), options are very rich. Healthcare: seeing a doctor, surgical operations, pharmaceuticals, bloodtests etc. in private hospitals are cheap and quality is good. Gasoline is expensive, $1 a liter. Domestic flight tickets are not expensive. Public transportation is cheap and highly available in cities. So if you have 1 million USD, come here and it will be equivalent of something like 4 millions USD minimum IF NOT 5.9 (current exchange rate). Of course I am talking about the case in the video here. If you are asking about working and living here with a TRY wage and it's certainly very bad. Come here if you have $ or € retirement savings or passive income.

9% interest is to compensate for the inflation or risk of loss of capital. You can't just spend the interest and maintain the same purchasing power of your underlying capital. No free lunch in the sovereign bond market. That part of your argument is flawed.
You get 9% because inflation is 9%, you end up with the same, and pay taxes on the nominal (not real) interest. Savings in hard currency, expenses in soft.

40 years ago we would have called this lifestyle of yours the "PT " (Perpetual Traveler) lifestyle as espoused in the books by Bill Hill (nom de plume). I live in the US and have been researching for a year about moving to another country. In all my comparisons the US keeps coming up as competitive. Most comparisons are made to top US cities. Yes the Philippines is cheaper than LA and NY. But cheaper than Phoenix? I live in Phoenix, own my house. Property ownership in other countries is a bit scary to me. I'm old enough to have seen many stable countries become unstable. I understand the US market but would be a novice buying in another country. I live on $500-1000/mo here in Phoenix. Philippines can be cheap, but comparing lifestyle I'd expect to spend $1000-1500/mo there. And selling my Phoenix house I'd be losing that appreciation and I don't want the job of managing a rental. I think the US is overlooked.
Use Numbeo cost of living comparison. Also check out Belgrade or Novi Sad. It's amazing! Sell your phoenix house, put $200k into a few good tech stocks like apple, microsoft, amzn, and netflix. Let it compound for 3-4 years at 20-25% and then live like a king off the interest of that sum forever. Thats what I'm doing.

@@blutao1648 All the top companies in America have averaged well over 20% over the last 10 years. AAPL, MSFT, NFLX, AMZN. If covid showed anything it's that people have stopped being so fearful and weakhanded with stocks. People were bolder than ever and bought and held stocks rather than folding at the slightest wind like in the past. Maybe it's a new era? but regardless those top companies are going to keep growing exponentially unless the whole world crashes. It's never too late, but earlier the better. Kids should all be taught about Compounding interest, and stocks as early as possible because they have the most time. 300K will become close to 700k in 4 years. Then you can keep living off that interest and still save some and keep growing the principle. Oh and leave a ton to take care of your kids too!

I feel fortunate to be somewhat living that way now in Mexico, although I still work online. There are many expats here, so the services for banking and health care are top notch. Health insurance is not needed, as prices are low and most people pay in cash unless they have major issues. Houses are fairly expensive, but taxes and maintenance services are super cheap. Citizenship takes time, but not a lot of money. The weather is absolutely perfect, the food outstanding, and the people are as friendly as you will find anywhere. I live in a beautiful neighborhood mixed with gringos and wealthy mexicans. There is some crime like anywhere, but not for most expats if you use normal common sense. It is close to an international airport as well as fantastic beaches. I think I have found it!

Where can get a 10% return on your investment that is not risky? I believe the Dow Jones is about 7% over 25 years with huge fluctuations. Have you been able to get mortgages on houses overseas ? Currently in America a 30 year mortgage under 3%, and sometimes you can get it with 0% down. The appreciation of a house is not contingent upon your equity in the house. Depending on your age you may want to consider looking at your nest egg and seeing if you could live on less than 3% of that annually. Buying a property in one of these countries is quite a commitment and as you had mentioned things can change quickly perhaps the strategy would be to rent wherever you go and if prices go up you can always migrate to the next thrifty Wonderland. Last time I was in Thailand I found a lot of empty condominiums that were easy to rent out for less than 500 bucks a month. I feel like I’m going on a rant no sorry thanks for the video...
I think the Philippines the conversion rate right now is 50 pesos for 1 is dollar So 1mil usd to PHP is 50,745,000 pesos and I’ve seen the rate get up to 53 in the past couple years for perspective 1 PHP converts to 0.020 USD

My experience is, that I found El Salvador is very reasonable and San Salvador is a nice place in certain places. It used the US Dollar, but at 1/3-1/2 the price, of dining, services, etc. than Miami. Same is true in Panama, a great bargain, (check out the Canal Zone) that uses the US Dollar, but it is far cheaper than US. The Dominican Republic seems to be the best choice for bargain living in the Caribbean, alone with the Philippines in Asia. While in my travels I found both Brazil & Argentina interesting, they would be brutal to live in in. (Brazil for crime & Argentina for scary economics).

What is your experience with Argentina? I know the currency is messed up, but it is so beautiful, very European and has lots of natural resources. You could always keep your currency in a more stable one, and I know Doug Casey has had a high quality of life. I think BA, Mendoza and Barilioche are wonderful, and a lot more interesting than Paraguay. I think Medellin is enticing and a place outside Santiago, too. Maybe, even Uruguay. Your thoughts? The fact seasons are reversed from NA and Europe is a plus as well.
For me it’s Tbilisi and Batumi Georgia but also Yerevan in Armenia. My first goal is to open bank accounts in both those countries, deposit at least $5000 usd in each and then start looking at buying an apartment.
I think it depends where you are from. Europeans: Eastern Europe (Serbia, Ukraine, Armenia and Georgia). North Americans: South America or Latin America (Mexico, Ecuador, Colimbia, Dominican Republic and Paraguay). Asian Countries: Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines. Middle Eastern: Turkey, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia.

I have a rule. I never buy property in a country where I'm just a guest and can be asked to leave at any time. If or when I expat I'm either renting out my home in the US and renting in the foreign location or I'm selling my home and investing most of the money in REITs and index funds. Rent in most low cost places may run $1000-1500 a month in the high end neighborhoods. But for most upper middle class neighborhoods you will be able to rent something from $400-1000 dollars. That's cheaper than what I pay taxes, maintenance, insurance and repairs for in my current US home.
If healthcare matters and it should since you plan to retire any European country would be great. If you need an ambulance for some reason nobody gonna hand you a $2000 bill just for a 2 mile ride.
Because you already paid high tax on your income/interest rate, i'm pretty sure you can get get a decent health insurance, if you reside somewhere tax free.

Just have the first full year already in your account before you move, and you'll never be waiting on dividend paydays. Actually just 3-6 months ahead is all you need, because that leaves more money invested. If you can't live like a king in the Philippines on $2500-$3000 you are doing it wrong. You could rent a 3 bedroom beach house, pay for all food and drinks, utilities, visas, healthcare, maid service, private driver, entertainment on $3k a month.
9% on laris? Just come over the border to Armenia where you can get upwards of 15% on drams. I personally know of lombards and nationally insured banks that give 18%. Plus, as we saw during the CIS currency devaluation of 2015-2016 the Armenian dram is much more stable than the Georgian lari.
A S If you’re comfortable with transnational banks, there are regional banks owned by HSBC (British), Crédit Agricole (French), and VTB (Russian). There are smaller Armenian banks that I’ve personally had a better experience with on a service level like Ardshin Bank and Artsakh Bank. My personal favorite is Ameriabank. It happens to be the oldest bank in Armenia and it’s won awards for best Armenian bank year after year.

Հովսեփ Խաշունի sorry to say Armenian people are not used to the foreginers I stay 2 years in komitaas in Yerevan it's not safe because I face lot of encounters with uneducated and unemployed youth of Armenia specially group of Armenian boys they will attack foreginers at the streets of Yerevan
Any place in South East Asia qualifies for this. Most places in South America too. And with a million dollars, I would invest half a million in 2 apartments. Rent those out and live off rental income. It's actually very easy to retire with a million USD in many countries
