Hilleberg and Vern 2. If I had all of these tents I wouldn't sell any.................you can't make me! I've got your addiction, ha ha ha ha. I don't care.

Not sure where you camp but in scotland we have some extreme weather. After getting a tent flattend in 80mph winds, bought hillebergs including the Tarra, Soulo BL , Nallo and Nammatj. It is not the norm , but winds have been recorded in Scotland at 173mph on Cairngorm. With regard to tunnels, out of the ones I have had. The Hilleberg Tarra a hyrbid geodesic tunnel is the strongest but a pain due to the weight and bulk. The nammatj 2 would be my favourite for solo use in winter, the anjan 2 for the other 3 seasons.

As an alternative to the Sydvang Skaring 2P, I would definately urge prople to take a look at the Robens Voyager 2EX or Robens Pioneer 2EX - the Robens tents are also known to be extremely durable against strong wind. This was a great video, nice one!

Myself and partner were in the Vango 2 person tunnel tent (cant remember the Model) got caught in the rainstorm from hell. it was 150mm in 12 hours in Queensland Australia, we were bone dry for 2 days. And left to go to Cairns still dry. It was the Spirit 200+.

I have a Sydvang Skaring 2p but not ultra light like you have. Mostly I use this tent in winter time. It is heavy tent, but I don't have any problems with this tent in strong wind and heavy snow. The quality for that price is very good.

Very thorough and informative video as usual Dave, thanks! A full 4 season Tindheim would be awesome, and basically the Nammatj 2 which I wish was just a bit longer and taller. To say most of those tents weigh in at around a Soulo they're definitely more tempting

I have a Nammatj 2. Awesome tent. It was hard to find one, i ended up getting it from Finland at a better price than a Soulo. Wouldn't change it for anything. Build quality, strength and peace of mind make it well worth the outlay. A tent that can go anywhere in any kind of weather. Considering a fjallraven Keb endurance atm. I don't see the point in "bargains" or compromise, i need a reliable tool i can depend on for the job! Not sure i'd buy any of the tents in the video, though i did consider the Hilleberg Kaitum at one point. Put off by it being red label. The Black label tents are so much higher spec, you get a lot of tent for the money.

@turtle-Alchemist
@turtle-Alchemist 11 месяцев назад
@@Fellmandave1 Yes i have watched several of Tom Heaney's videos, it helped me decide on the Nammatj (his fave at the time). I love his extreme wind videos. I asked if he would do a more extended test with some of the tents like the samaya, i want to see them take a good beating in proper weather. Tom likes his light stuff, i went extreme elsewhere with my kit to counter the weight penalty.
@Deebz270
@Deebz270 11 месяцев назад
Yeah... I have to agree... The Hilderberg is ridiculously overpriced and in all honesty too large for a single/couple backpacking, where weight to size ration is important... The MSR likewise... The Sydvang I'm neutral and Vango - always a popular brand with Scouts... Is an excellent budget tent, but with many rivals... So yes, I'd go for the Nortent Vern 2 of this batch. I like that extra diagnal tensioning pole and end 'snout' vents and the ease of ingress/egress both sides, where there is equaL cooking/doing stuff space at your elbows. I like the idea of brewing tea from my sleeping bag... It looks more aerodynamic that the others and would probably fair better in windy conditions. Nice tent.

I have the Nordisk Oppland 2 LW. I wanted a tent of this type with an extended vestibule and this was the lightest tent of this type by far, hence it won out for me and I purchased it a few weeks ago. Only issue I have is with the poles as mine are nearly 200g heavier than I expected when compared to someone else with the same tent on you tube. I think this is because the poles are not made by DAC anymore but they have not updated the stats. I am still waiting to hear back from Nordisk on this matter.

Hey Fellman all your Tents are great and its quite an line up you got there..and you even went budget with the Vango.. Which is especially good as those tents are only discounted in price and certainly never on quality..I use the Vango Banshee 200 an excellent little tent that looks very good out there in fact I once got some positive feedback regards the kit and Tent from Police Officer's attending to some rowdy campers...Anyway I never follow aggressive parties out in the wild but some better advice is Vango if your on an budget as that brand does what it says on the tin and it don't cost an arm and an leg either but just be sure you don't hook up with aggressive parties cos you don't want to spoil that nice shiny new Vango do you?

I hope your advice regards all the tents you highlight here helps to make for an good and wise choice...Also got to admit its not so easy to get an good look around and into the best tents available on the market but your tour and inspection of the tents in this respect gave us an real feel to them and should be found for any deciding an purchase to be extremely helpful and insightful..Thanks again Fellman 😀

Enjoyable as always, Dave. I love my Vango F10 Xenon UL2, which is slightly on the heavier side for a solo camper, but the room it gives is great. I'm currently looking at modifying it a bit to try to increase the strength in windier conditions (coming to a RU-vid channel near here soon!). All the very best.
@Fellmandave1
@Fellmandave1 11 месяцев назад
Thank you A4A. Yes the Xenon is a great tent, just wish they had double guyed it and made the poles a bit less pencil like. But that all adds to the weight I guess. thanks for commenting and all the best to you too!

I am only a few minutes into the video, but as an alternative to the «budget» Sydvang tent, may I suggest the Naturehike Opalus tent? A very nice tent for the price, with similar features as the Sydvang, who atleast here in Norway is considered as a budget option compared to the Fjallraven brand.

Yes I know sydvang do some cheaper tents but this silnylon one feels quite premium. But, that's slightly beside the point as it is the extended tunnel offering. Unfortunately I did not have an abisko! Thanks and enjoy the rest.😊

@@Fellmandave1 Thank you, I did enjoy the rest and of course as a Nortent fanboy I did also agree with your conclusion. 🙂 That being said, I do think the Sydvang is a very interesting tent that provides excellent value for money and quality wise probably more than good enough for most people. One thing to be aware of is different tent manufacturers price their products differently in different countries such as Msr are priced at a approximately the same value in most countries as depending on exchange rates whereas tents that are actually made in Europe vary greatly depending on local market prices. It should be noted that import duties now applied to imports from Europe to the uk can put as much as £200 on to the price of a tent, it’s actually considerably cheaper for me to buy a Hilleberg tent in Australia than the uk due to no import duties or tariffs being applied. Makes you wonder where all the uk tax ends up but that’s an another subject.

Although I understand what 'footprint' means, I call a groundsheet a groundsheet.... As for lighting stoves in tent vestibules, - if they're as big as these featured, no problem. Just remember the laws of physics - and chemistry - that carbon monoxide and dioxide is the threat, not necessarilly the flame/heat of the stove itself. I've made loads of single mess hot meals in even the vestibule of my diminutive one person Ultimate Equipment backpacker ' Wind-sock' tunnel tent. Dogs? In a tent? In the inner tent? Inbetween sleeping humans? On yer bike! I don't do dogs, but if I did, it would sleep in the vestibule. Muddy - SHARP dog claws in a tent? LOL.
