Over time, I upgraded all the parts on my 6 speed C line with Brompton SL parts (seat, pentaclip, pedals, grips, hinge clamps, frame clip, suspension block) and the rest of the parts with titanium (seatpost, handlebars, rack, fork, screws,..)... still under the price of a new P line... so there is that route also :) not having to fork out all the cash at front and learn a thing or two about your bike in the proces...

@ivanrusic can't see how you replaced, fork, triangle, rack and seat part with brompton ti parts for under £750 Aliexpress specials, maybe. But there's no way I'd trust those parts in steel, let alone the complexity of ti welding

Fair enough if you're happy with not knowing history of 2nd user parts. It's not really a fair comparison though. You've ended the 7 year warranty benefit. Also begs the question, why not just get the 2nd superlight?

For a non Brompton owner who is interested in what the Brompton models are then this is a brilliant video. I now feel I know enough to start looking at the bikes out there. Thanks for explaining the ranges and what they stand for but please sit down when you are talking, your constant swaying made me feel seasick and detracted from an otherwise brilliant video.

For me, the only Brompton to buy is the Brompton T-Line. It's a work of art but as stock it's not quite a masterpiece. I wouldn't be duped by the 12-speed. Just get the 4-speed because then I would customize the bike with everything by H&H, Cane Creek, and Hubsmith Bumbee wheels. Oh, I forgot to say, at 9:54... *_YOU_* are the cream of the crop! ♥

I got the 6-speed C-Line for a little over a month now (rear-rack and hub dynamo lights included) and I couldn't be happier so far. The weight isn't that much of an issue once you learn how to carry the Brompton with the saddle laying on your shoulder (you can do that both folded and unfolded, just strap the rear wheel to the main frame). For me, this technique was the "game changer" regarding weight; now I can carry the Brommie up my stairs quite easily.

I'd probably go with C-line 6 speed. That's because it is mostly available in my country. The A-line isn't coming here and neither is the T-line. So that leaves C and P. The P is WAY more intersting though! P-line 4-speed would be amazing! Tough I have never ownerd a Brompton so it is hard to justify. And also C-line comes in nicer colors. Matcha green C-line looks VERY good! I like the coral too! Also C-line leaves option open for aftermarket forks. There is no point getting a P-line and then replace the ti forks with maybe steel ones with discbrakes.

Brompton of course deserve major respect for creating the design, the brand, and the loyal culture around it, and of course the fact that they are able to convince a large number of people to pay more than they should for the product. They should read carefully the comments though under all brompton videos. If they take it in and respond adequately they can keep the party going for a couple more decades. If they don't, the comments describe why they'll lose their fan base and probably disappear (or sell the brand to someone else).

Another great and informative video - thanks! Where's the 'P1'? I love my single speed Brompton. Not a T1 (if only) but an old M1E now with mudguards. I'd always fantasised about getting a basic Brompton and customising it with belt drive and a Rohloff hub etc (although the cost would be very off putting). But after getting an 8 speed belt drive Tern S8i, my son gave me his old M1E for my 60th birthday and I started riding it and loving the ride. I changed the rear sprocket from the 12t to a 13t and, for me, this is the perfect single speed. I mostly commute (12.5 miles each way) through hilly Kent countryside and find the lack of gears strangely enjoyable. Yes you have to put in some effort but on those hills you have to do that anyway whether on my Look 566 carbon road bike or the Tern S8i. I've also done a century ride on it through some very challenging terrain (just to see if I could - and I didn't need to walk up any hills) and can honestly say I felt less fatigued after that than similar rides on the geared bikes. I now think single speed is very underrated and that gear ranges are more to do with selling bikes that riding them! Come to that, where's the 'A1'?...
@TheBromptonGuy
@TheBromptonGuy Месяц назад
This is a great comment and thank you so much for sharing, can only assume you must be in great shape for your age. I do agree with you a lot on single speeds and most likely as you say the more gears and easier you can say something is the better it sells. I've went back and forth muiplte times and when the day comes for me to get my T line I don't have a clue which one I'll plump for.

Great summary of the different lines. I've been considering 12 speed electric C vs P line and interestingly, looking at the online specs, the weight difference is listed as only 1kg, which is a much smaller difference than between the C & P same geared non-electric versions. So unless the specs are wrong, now I'm thinking the weight difference isn't worth the cost difference. Still awaiting reviews of the 12 speed electrics with a comparision between the two lines. And yes, I do plan to add the racks (plus maybe the wheel extender). So know if you plan to review the new electrics, but if not I still enjoy your videos with rides, modifications, useful bits and bobs for the bike... Btw, would love to find a loud but mellow (not shrill or high pitched) bell, if you feel like doing bell comparisions ... grin.

The T-line is a Production Disaster! The new and "interesting" holes by the hinges gives access to water and a load of gravel, which are able to reach anywhere inside the frame, also on top of the - crank!! But what's to expect from a Firm which has done absolutely nothing, during al the years of Production, about possible scratches from and during the fold, but has left it to - China to built a Major Industry from producing Protective, and also many better and lighter parts for Brompton-like bikes!!! My now much former than 2019 SuperlightM6LXBrompton is presently well below 9 kilo and I expect, with a little more work on my Mudguards (I'm still a Dane!!) and brakes, I will be able to reach at least 8 kilo, and still with my heavy 6 gear, combined system? So honestly, why buy a rather lousy finished T-line (With Mudguards!), when you are able to modify an ordinary Brompton to about the same weight - with expensive titanium and carbon parts, well mostly from China, Korea and Taiwan but still for a much lower Price than a T-line! I sadly haven't met any other Brompton riders in Denmark, but I would love to give one a change to lift my still - very ordinary and Standard looking bike, to feel the difference which it is possible to reach for a Brompton! 🤔 Finn. I've just brought a 6 speed C-Line and actually love the robust steel frame and extra weight, with wide gear ratios. As I time trial and race MTBs and use the C-Line, as part of my training. That's what I probably needed on my brompton BEFORE my accident. I simply put my brakes on and the rims were wet from where a water fountain had blew over water, and down I went.
