Which Buck 110 is Best For You? 

Not sure what you are going to think or say but here is my story. In 1971 I was travelling around the world backpacking it & staying in youth hostels, with my girlfriend who later became my wife. I believe we were in Greece, when I met a young American [I am Canadian} who had the most beautiful & spectacular folding knife I had EVER seen at that time. I was all over him to find out where it was made & how I could get one. He told me that it was a "BUCK 110 folding hunter" & gave me the address in El Cahon, California so I could buy one, because at that time they were not for sale in Canada. The second I returned to Canada, I ordered one. $20 US at the time, But here's the rub. He & his friends modified the knife to be quickly opened one handed. What they did & so did I as I REALLY liked the mod was to shave down the wooden scale so that you could easilly flick open the blade. At this time the knives had very square edge handles, so we just carved the left side down by the thumb nick from the square edge of the scale down to the blade on basically a 45 degree angle making it easy to access the blade & open it one handed. I loved the mod. Still have the knife, still LOVE the mod . As far as I am concerned We only made the knives BETTER, more convenient to use. I am not sorry for what I did to the knife, better than those cheesy thumb studs. Well think what you will . That's the way it is,was, & ever will be!

I am both a communist and a fan of the beloved Buck 110. I can not speak for my comrades who do not appreciate the glory that is the all american beauty Buck 110 knife. I was lucky enough to find one from the year I was born (88) and Ill take this thing to my grave. I never leave the house without it and it has served me through good times and bad. I really enjoy these videos shining a light on the best folding knife ever made by american hands. I love the knife so much that when I finally had the money I had a custom 110 made with cherry handles and my name engraved onto the bolsters. These two knives are easily among my most treasured possessions.

I bought my first buck 110 in 1977 right after I got a Marine Corps boot camp and still have it, It has served me well out of the field and at home, I own 15 buck 110 since then, now I always carry 3 must knife a swiss army knife, coldsteel 5" XLG tango Voyager and a 2018 buck 110

CLASSIC video! Thank you for posting. I've got two Buck 110s. I ruined my old one on one of those Buck sharpening clamps. Bummer. My dad gave my wife his 112. She doesn't carry it now, so it's in my "knife drawer." I got my new 110 back in the '90s, and it's in the knife drawer also. I'm carrying a SOG Aegis right now. Also in my knife drawer is the Buck that started it all, my Buck 119 Special.

Nice video. Thanks for sharing. I've never owned a 110. I would never carry it. I do have a vantage pro that I like to carry sometimes. Reprofiled the edge of the s30v to 17 degrees. Much more slicey and still stable.

I’m up to 4 iterations of the Buck 110 now and recently picked up a vintage Schrade LB7.

Between this and the “You need a Buck” video, you’ve forced me into buying a third 110, this time in the standard configuration. I think I’m going to buy a horizontal sheath so I’ll have more opportunity to carry them. Thanks as always.

I have learned to hand pick my higher dollar bucks. I looked at 4 103 Pro S35VN models before I found one ground perfectly. Same thing with the Vanguard AG and Pro Limited. I had no chance to see the web exclusive 3V 119 or D2 119 I ordered but they both arrived nearly perfect. Thanks goodness since the 3V model was a 1 of 750 made.

I have bought only two Buck 110s in blister packs. They have beautiful matching scales. The machining and centering is excellent. I bought my first Buck 110 in 1975 and still have it. It is also excellent

Mine is in ebony the left scale has a beautiful light streak that reminds me of the milky way,i luv the new rounded handles 😊

I have over two dozen hunting and combat knives. I reprofiled them all on my Ken Onion Work Sharp. Then stroped/honed them on a ceramic rod. Their all hair shaving sharp.

Nice episode, my first decent knife was a Buck 112.

The first time I ever saw a Buck 110 was in 1972 in Greece on the island of Crete. I met a young man from California & he had a Buck 110, with mods. He said they all shaved down the square edge of the handle on the lower right hand side, which made the knife easilly openable with one hand. When I came back to Canada & ordered my Buck 110 from El Cahon california, I immedietly shaved down that side of the handle & it has been that way ever since . No need for a thumb stud or anything else. you get enough purchase on the blade with the scale shaved down to open it one handed NO problem. Still have it, still love it still happy with the mod I made way back when!

I had to count. I have 16 Bucks knives. 4 110....all used. 3 new ones. 1 119 , 1 103 , 1 105. The rest used. Good video. 👍

I was able to pick up a 2 Dot 110 at a thrift store and it was still in the leather sheath. It is well carried and used and the sheath was carried a lot. But she has a lot of life left. I sharpened it up and polished the wood and brass and she looks great. I think she’s from around 1978ish. I couldn’t pass it up for $40. I believe they were using 440c then

I got my first 110 in the mid seventies and my second in the early eighties,I’ve still got both they are awesome knives well made

Didn’t Chuck Buck go to a different 400 series for the ease of hot stamping the blade stock ? I’m thinking 420.

My parents bought me one for my 21st birthday and I've had it since then. I'll be 52 years old in a month or so. The only thing I've owned longer was some binoculars they gave me for deer hunting in 7th grade Anyways the first time I had it at work I dropped it and broke the tip off of it. I have sharpened it enough that you can't tell I messed it up. I have also sandblasted it gray for some odd reason like twenty years ago

I've tried drilling blades, to put on handles, or to make your thumb hole. Not even penetraring. Is there a special bit, oil, or technique you use

Hey , I am 72 this year , 2023 & I remember the first release of the 110 , back in the day !!! I thought this then & I still think this now , even after owning a few down through the decades !!! I don't mind the thick blade . BUT , the thick , heavy & clunky handles have always been a negative to me & that is why I sold off everyone I ever bought !!! MotherBuck made slimmer , smaller versions of the 110 , but they never revisited the 110 with this concept , & keep the ebony handles !!! Gerber to their credit , was always slim line & I liked them more for that !!! If folks remember , RIGID of Santee , Ca. , made a 110 knock off with finger groves handle that sold like crazy , & it to was a fat & clunky handle !!!

They sell studs that you can screw on Buck 110 folders & 112 Buck to 😊 If you just happen to not already know. 😊

They make a brass fitting you can attach to the blade for one handed operation without damaging your blade.

So do you think it’s ok to order a 110 online? Since I would like it to look nice.

I lost count of alk the Buck knives I own and I'm still a Buck knife Enthusiast, I lost count but haven't lost any Buck knives they are put up very well and secure 🔐

Is finger grove comfortable to hold Or the classic is more comfortable

Go Buck yourself. But first, check for a loose blade and other defects mentioned in the video. Then, overlook the fact that this Legacy US knife comes with a sheath made in Mexico. Then, go directly to the Buck website rather than dealing with a distributor and notice how many models are not even available. What's with that? Is the Buck factory just a hobby? The website's kind of half-ass too. You can put a knife in your cart thinking you got lucky and found one in stock. Then, when it's time to check out, it's not available. Harley Davidson sold out their quality to AMF in the seventies. Enough employees who loved Harley's history bought it back and went back to quality. Maybe Buck will have a revelation and clean up their act. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think people are looking for the best knife and are willing to pay for it. It means very little to me how long they've been around.

I use the brass kwick bar for one handed opening on all my 110 and 112 however the hole is very cool it reminds me of spyderco

I'm thinking about ordering a few Buck knives from a rewards program at my work but I am having a hard time finding info about them. Lifetime warranty. USA made It seems like the Folding Hunter is around $65 at Bass Pro but I can't find the first one. Are these the 110 and 112? I am pretty sure I am going to order them either way but just wondering about looking into what I am really gonna order. Either way they are FREE Buck knives!! I say FREE but I have worked here for almost 6 years accident free
