You should have used a double boiling method, it achieves the same or similar heat but it's much gentler and is less likely to burn it.

Try Jolly ranchers hard candy, those will be the best glue by far.

As someone who makes candy fairly often I have to say this was pretty cool but also frustrating as I wish you would’ve used a thermometer and just boiled water in between orrrr used a double boiler method but either way I wasn’t expecting anything super scientific in the first place so oh well! The temperature you melt the candy at will effect what happens to the sugar probably more than you mixing all the candies together by the end. Use a candy thermometer and clean the pan
