We see the downsides of dual citizenship in Europe now, where 2nd and 3rd generations of middle eastern migrants are more loyal to the country of their grandparents than the countries they've grown up in. And they're still heavily influenced by those governments and even controlled to some extend. The current situation in the Netherlands is a good example where 3rd and maybe even 4th generations are shouting that Erdogan is their leader and Turkey is their homeland while waving the Turkish flag and at the same time enjoy all the benefits and rights they have in the Netherlands. And may I add than lots of them still don't speak proper Dutch.

I feel to be fair the US should only grant dual nationality to citizens of countries that accept US citizens as dual nationals

Mexico does that i have dual citizenship when i go to mexico they want to tax me for over staying i just refer to the mexican constitution that is kinda like the american who is a mexican a mexican is one of birth or of mexican parents born abroad same as and american if my kids are borm lets say argwntina they will also be americans😉

My country Serbia allows people to have dual citizenship... there is actually one american youtuber who lives in serbia and has Serbian citizenship... he makes videos about serbia

A tip. If you have (except Norway who do not allow dule nationality) citizenship of a Nordic country it is easy to get nationality of another Nordic country as there are no immigration controle for Nordic nationals in the Nordic travel area. Also resedency requriments for Nordic citezens in each country is 2 years.

you wrong my friend, you should read more before making any false statements Dual citizen in USA is tolerated but???? It's true that federal law says that everyone becoming a U.S. citizen must "renounce and abjure absolutely and entirely all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which the applicant was before a subject or citizen." That's why the oath at a naturalization ceremony starts off with nearly that exact language.

+Jacob Peters No, you wont. Americans are allowed to be dual citizens. I just got my 2nd passport from Trinidad & Tobago. This is because my father is from there and I am a citizen via descent.

+Trdat Exactly. My husband travels into the US on his Canadian passport. I travel on my British passport and carry my Canadian citizenship card on me to get back into Canada. Maintaining two passports at the same time gets expensive when you have a household of 5 dual citizens. 10 passports, plus my Grandfather was Irish. Yeah, not applying for my Irish citizenship. Another citizenship that I can't afford to keep passport up to date on? For what? Countries are too lax with citizenship's when one household is eligible for 4 citizenship's between them. Citizenship is losing value and meaning.

U.S. Immigration Law Allows Dual Citizenship It would be nice if the U.S. Congress had, at some point, simply spelled out within the Immigration and Nationality Act (I.N.A.) that dual citizenship is allowed by the United States. It hasn’t done so. In fact, you won’t find any formal or official recognition of dual citizenship as an immigration status. What’s more, the oath of allegiance that immigrants must take in order to become naturalized citizens declares that the immigrant will: renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen. That’s enough to make anyone think that they must choose between whether to be a citizen of the U.S. or of their home country

When I applied for a citizenship in the US, I realized that my allegiance is to this country alone. It doesn’t mean I hate my country of origin. I am expecting that the country, where I am living and have served will protect me. I still love the country of my origin but my loyalty is to the country which I have served to protect.

I love how the thumbnail shows a Japanese passport, and Japan doesn’t allow dual citizenship. I have to choose between Japan or USA soon…I think I’ll choose Japan tbh
