This is interesting to me, as I’ve been toying with the idea of getting Italian citizenship via my late mother, who was from Tuscany. I think it’s called juris sanguinus, or something like that. I’m wondering if there are pros and cons to doing so and your video gave me a bit more to chew on. I don’t see myself working in Italy, so filing taxes there might not be an issue. Still just thinking about it!

May I ask you something? Before moving to Australia, your husband held dual citizenship from Argentina and Italy. Now that he has Australian citizenship, if you were to decide to move to the USA in the future, would he be able to apply for an American visa without losing his Australian citizenship? Or would obtaining the American visa cause him to lose his Australian citizenship?

Yes, he is eligible for an American green card since we are married. No, he doesn’t need to give up his Australian passport.

Thanks for the video . Just a quick question? Do you use aus passport to enter and exit Australia ryt? Do they check ur USA passport as well when you exit Australia? And do you use USA passport when you enter and exit USA ? Do they check your Australia passport as well? Thanks

It's a requirement to enter and exit the US on a US passport. So if I am traveling there, I usually bring both. If I want to visit another country, I can just bring the AU passport.

Hope this is useful. I am a dual citizen (Australian and USA) living in the USA and I visit Australia every year to see my family members. I book my return flights with my USA passport but check in (in person) at the airport and show my Australian passport so the agent knows that I don't need the Australian ETA. When you return to USA, exit with Australian passport and also show your USA passport to the airline & immigration agent.

How do the taxes work if I become an American citizen and move back to Australia for a while. File for both country's but does then America charge taxes through what I'd make in australia. Or would it be like being unemployed in the u.s? I'm guessing double charged

There's a tax treaty between the US and Australia to prevent double-taxation. Once you become an American citizen you must file US taxes, no matter where you live in the world. I personally have a US tax accountant and AU tax accountant.

I use a local accountant based in Redcliffe for my AU return (only because I have lots of self-employment income - I used to just do my AU taxes myself) and Expat Tax Online for my US return.

First I recommend looking at your available visa options. That way you have a better idea of which industries need workers. Seek is popular here for job ads.

Spain is way better IMO. Much more affordable! Oz is way too expensive and far from a lot of the world. Well, I suppose the grass is always greener on the other side. Many Aussies are leaving Oz for places like Portugal and Mexico.

Have you lived in both Spain and AU? I love both for different reasons. It’s way better to be self-employed in Oz than the EU.

I think if I made the decision to live and work in another country Then I would renounce my US Citizenship. Reason being if that new country meant so much to me that I would become a citizen. If I felt I was going to spend the remainder of my life in Australia. Then what would be the point of keeping US citizensip. Id see no point at all in going through what the US requires of dual citizens with taxes. For that matter the US isnt the country it once was, to bother with citizenship there.

@@ESLTeacher365When there is family still in the USA, then yes keep the US citizenship. Your young you never know what life brings, and you might have to return here.
