Which country do you imagine when you hear the word "foreigner"?
It is a really simple question and the answer should be all kinds of answers because there are a lot of countries in the world. However, it is not what we expected in Japan.
Most Japanese people tend to talk about American people when it comes to "foreigners".
Today, I'm gonna show you how people think about it and why.

It's not really that surprising, considering that the significantly distant country (outside of immediate neighbors) Japan has interacted the most with is the USA. Ending the isolation period then to knowledge transfers in the early 20th, WWII and the subsequent installation of US bases, and then there's the soft power that both exported to each other in the late 20th. Not only that, the most represented non-asian country in Japan is by FAR the United States.

Interesting, to be honest i'm not surprised by the result, the US obviously has a lot of influence over Japan. What was more surprising to me was that some of them said their image of a foreigner is a 'hakujin'

@@shuya-sonoda Envy ? Well that's kinda sad to hear to be honest, every ethnic group has unique attractive features that are beautiful in their own way. I don't think they should envy others, instead they should love themselves and embrace their own features, embrace Asian beauty. But to be honest i blame Western eurocentric beauty standards that have been forced to the world for decades through colonization/media

@@shuya-sonoda don't they understand that American people who have lighter hair and lighter skin colors actually had parents or grandparents who came to the US from foreign countries? For example, my father and a few of his siblings had red hair, green eyes and freckles all over their bodies and no one had ever thought of them as from another country, but they all were born here in the US except for their parents, which would be my grandparents.. And I'm very light skin with blonde hair and green eyes 👀 but both of my parents were Italian 🇮🇹

As matter of fact these people have very low standard of world geography knowledge I guessed, maybe it's like something in the day to day basis they've got know the things they have seen in the tv everyday turns, no wonder, Japan is in always west bank, but they've called themsalves asian, but it is good have a knowledge about countries like economically and militarary in strong prospectives, but more than that talking about world you should need to have little bit knowledge about history and world.
