I work for an equipment company where we are an authorized EGO dealer. We sell these units to commercial landscapers who love them, and they also abuse the hell out of them for 3 to 4 hours a day. From their feedback and our experience using EGO products, the 530 is a perfect middle ground option especially for drying a car. I usually towel dry my car, and then I go back through with the 530 to get water out of the crevices. This allows me get at least 4 to 5 uses before I have to charge it. The 580 is also great, but like Matt mentioned it's heavier and not quite as well balanced in the hand. I will admit it's better in every other way due to the power and the battery. So for the OBSESSED it's the no compromises unit. Where as the 530 is a perfect alternative. Think of it as the Mosmatic vs the MTM spray gun. They're both wonderful tools just one has a slight edge. For those saying that these are overpriced and to stick with a corded model that's fine. Just remember that these units were designed to break battery powered equipment into the commercial market. So they're rugged, well made, and meant to be portable. The corded unit is perfectly fine for a weekend warrior, but this is Obsessed Garage.

Any reason you towel dry instead of just using your EGO since you have it anyway?
@whitegoodman7465
@whitegoodman7465 5 месяцев назад
Even on a coated car a leaf blower wont get 100% of the water off, you would be there for 20 mins straight trying to get every last drop, same reason matt after blowing off the bulk of the water goes back with a drying towel and drying aid gets the rest. For me the main reason is not get my drying towels soaked with water which is annoying then it leaves a trail of water then you have to go back over it.@@tim0chen

Why pay so much for a 2nd 5-amp battery when it's cheaper just to buy a 2nd '580' blower to get the battery, effectively getting the 2nd blower on its own for free?

I bought the EGO 650 with charger and 5ah battery for $270 at Lowe’s. That made so much more sense. I’m happy plus 2 nozzles came with the 650 which no nozzles came with the 530.

I bought the 530 couple years back on sale for $99. I then bought the Ego string trimmer for $149 which gave me a second battery. When you catch them on sale, it’s cheaper to buy the tool with it than buying the battery itself.

Hi Matt, thanks for the vid , Ive been using the 580 for about a year and yeah it is a little long and clunky , sometimes I remove the the whole nozzle and use it like that , it’s so short and easy to maneuver, this way works especially good when drying the wheels but for the hood and roof it’s better with the nozzle , try it .

There's a difference using electric (Ego) vs gas (2 stroke) as far the air cleanliness concern. Emissions from lawn equipment are pretty nasty (throttle it up quickly and you get an oily smoke puff), the wind blows unfavorably and that will be on your glass/paint - not to mention your lungs. Filtering compressed air to remove water so it doesn't sit in a compressor tank or tire - sure, but for drying, well, like you said. I started using these Ego blowers to dry cars as soon as they came out, people used to think it was silly. I avoid drying towels, and other sources of 'love marks', if at all possible. They just keep getting better and better, I may have to upgrade to their 650 handheld from my current 530. For batteries, I got the lawnmower which also does a great job, so the fast charger and 7.5aH battery were included. The fast charger only makes a difference on the 5aH and up as far as I can tell. It also has a more useful charge % indicator if you want to start using it again before a full charge - e.g. you missed a spot.

Thanks. I wondered if the 5 Ah battery would be too heavy and awkward for a blower since it is the one that comes with the push mower. Seems like I will do just fine using my already owned 5 Ah battery with the purchase of just a 530 CFM blower. Btw, their push mower is excellent if you have a small yard of course. Also, to my surprise, they are coming out with a zero turn riding mower this year. Everything I use and eventually everyone will use will be electric.

Interesting as I've been looking at getting the new DeWal Flexvolt 60v unit and comparing them seems the DeWalt is using more air and also looks amazing and is weighted really well. Weird that Ego use m3/h Vs CFM. The DeWal does 650CFM - the Ego 530 does 529CFM and the 580 does 576CFM. Worth noting.

I have a corded one - works OK, but found a better way. :) Because my vehicles as so "dialed in" like yours........ I give them a spray of Griot's spray wax as a drying aid and most of the water just runs off. It only takes one towel to do so. After the car is dry, I use Bead Maker as a Topper. This process works quite well and gives me the advantage of another "coat" . I now don't worry about scrarching or dinging my cars from the blower! :)

I’ve been anxiously waiting for an opportunity to ask you this.... Since you’re famous for “Falling on the sword” for us, can you do one more experiment with these? I’d like to see you you cut about 12 inches off the end of the nozzle and see if there is a significant loss of airflow. I want one specifically for drying my car and don’t care about using it for other uses. Cutting it down would make it sooo much easier to handle if there was no real downside to doing it. 🙏🙏🙏

The kobalt is stronger rated at 610 CFM (VS Ego's 580 CFM) but the kobalt 80v is rated slower at max speed of 140 mph (vs Ego's 168 mph), wondering if that 28 mph speed difference makes a considerable difference to justify the $329 price tag..

Actually only time I have to watch the cord is when I take off water from the roof (i usually put the cord over my shoulder) otherwise one more pull when I go to the other side of the car. So thats two times I have to adjust the cord and you guys make it seem like its so much work.

@@codename7832 Paying for convenience is usually a luxury. I used a corded blower for years and switching to cordless was well worth it. Taking it out, dragging it around and putting it away are just steps I could pretty much cut out in my wash process. That combined with a wall mounted pressure washer and hose reel makes the whole experience more efficient and enjoyable. I love the actual washing part but loathe the setting up and cleaning up part.

@@muckeyn dude its 3-5 minutes of walking around the car with cord on your shoulder. You making it seem like you draging/setting up/putting away a chain that weights 250lbs. The corded leaf blower I have its at 750CPM with up to 120MPH. It weights less then 530 so having cord on my shoulder for up to 5 minutes it really doesnt bother me.

There’s a new 650 blower that actually cheaper for some reason than the 580 $300 vs $330 for the 580 batt & Charger incl. Have you tried it what do you think about it

I recently bought the 650 with battery and charger included and got around my car really good I feel the ego leaf blower is more of a personal use item. But I was only using this as a test because I’m looking to start my own business and was wondering if two batteries would be good or should I just go and purchase the MetroVac and a generator. I’m trying to avoid the expense of a generator thus having to buy gas but eventually I think I might have to if I have other items that need to be plugged up like the rigid vacuum and future Kranzel pressure washer. Any opinion ?

Hey Matt, have you ever polished glass? Seem to have streaking on my windshield that does not go away. I have tried clay and the sorts with no success. Is there a "glass polish" you recommend? Is it fine to use on my Rupes with a microfiber pad or so? Thanks

Yes, CarPro CeriGalss is pretty much the standard with a Rayon Pad. For superficial things like that you can just use a compound and Microfiber cutting pad.
