But it's so ugly, with a depressing color pallet. I dont think new players with stick with it long enough to discover the mastery. They should start on FO4. It's beautiful and the combat is optimised. And the mods after 9 years made it really incredible. I would say try NV after you develop some warm fuzzy feelz for Fallout and can tolerate the brown....

I enjoy playing games on Steam through my PC, despite not being much of a PC person. I prefer gaming on my 65-inch TV. Although I'm not fond of using a mouse and keyboard, the beauty of PC gaming is that you can easily connect any joystick and have it detected by Steam. This allows you to play as if you were on a console, without the need for a keyboard and mouse. As for Fallout, the first-person shooter aspect tends to give me headaches, unless I'm playing on a smaller screen. Considering this, I'm thinking of trying it out on the Steam Deck. While Fallout isn't at the top of my list, I might give it a shot later this year. By the way, great RU-vid channel! Keep up the good work. All the best!

If you want the best Lore-centric experience, start with the original Fallout, and work your way forward. This way, you will understand a lot more of the easter eggs and terminal references as you go, instead of trying to retroactively tie it all together in your head. Also, skipping 1 and 2 misses some of the very best storystelling in the franchise. What they lack in modern graphics, they make up for with rich storytelling, because they *had* to.
@Mars9982
@Mars9982 Месяц назад
In the unlikely outcome that you convert to PC gaming; FO3 and FO New Vegas are separate games, however on PC there is a mod called " A Tale of Two Wastelands" that links the two games as one so you can seamlessly travel between the east coast (FO3) and the west coast (NV). You keep everything in between traveling OR you can simply finish FO3 and then continue to NV in a kind of new-New Game+ kind of way.

One additional option to play Fallout 3 and New Vegas on PS4 or 5, is if you have the PS Plus subscription that grants you access to the "classics" catalog. You can stream all sorts of games from the PS1-PS3 libraries, like 3 and New Vegas. Granted, it's similar to having Game Pass, but again, it's another option. Especially for those who maybe only have (or purely prefer to play on) a PlayStation.

I think 4 is a good entry. 3 has the better story of the "modern" Fallouts, in my ever so humble opinion, but the mechanics for 3 and New Vegas have aged a bit. 76 is of course the newest, but as an MMO it's more of a Fallout theme park than a crafted single player adventure. That being said, if you're good with older isometric RPGs, I'd go all the way back to the first two. Fortunately each numbered entry stands on its own so you can jump in anywhere and be fine.

Of course it depends on what you like Another thing is that if you are a fan of just such games, then Fallout 1, 2 and (even though this is a separate and simplified game, but still good) Fallout Tactics are the best then comes the console fallout brotherhood of steel It’s a pity that they didn’t tell you that in our time it is advisable to install a mod on fallout in order to significantly improve playability, several childhood diseases of early games have been corrected there (and on Apocalytic Road it is generally advisable to install a pack of mods - 10-15) Fallout 1 and 2 are generally advisable to go through several times in any case as they say - the only bad thing about fallout is that you can only play it once for the first time another thing is that it takes a long time, now people usually don’t spend that much time

I would love to see Bethesda handover the rights to Fallout 1 & 2 to NightDive Studios to make a nice modern remaster and port to all platforms. Good call starting with 1 . I started with 2 when it came out way back when , and that was one of my favourite games , and kinda still is really , although the last time I played either 1 or 2 was probably about 10 years ago or so on my second playthrough of both. Fallout 3 , NV and 4 are good games in their own right (haven't played 76) , but 1 and 2 are different than the rest. I liked the stories , the atmosphere and the overall feel / vibe of 1 and 2 a bit more than the later games. Oh and btw there is also Fallout Tactics. I had played that one a bit , but never really got through it. I think that one was focused more on the Brotherhood of Steel side of things. Now I'm feeling like I'm gonna have to go play some fallout again 😁

Ideally, Fallout 1 & 2 would indeed be the way to go; in fact, there is a nice flow in terms of the development from 1 to 2 (i.e., the 2nd game has the same format as the 1997 original, but it's an overall improvement). In terms of gameplay, New Vegas should be an ideal start for those who don't want to play 1 or 2, but the lore in New Vegas vs the TV show..., there seems to be conflict...(?) BUT! This has been addressed by the creators & now there's a timeline to prove there is no conflict! That aside, the 3rd is the one I started with & it's probably the best, by default, to play for those skipping 1 & 2, yet want exposure to the Fallout lore. As for Fallout 4 & Fallout 76, they are very much the same game imho -- their faults become more & more apparant as you play them, but out of these two, Fallout 76 takes the cake in terms of how bad a game can be made so as to risk destroying an entire ~25yr old franchise. Luckily, Bethesda did avert the collapse of Fallout via Fallout 76 by releasing (thus far) 18 major updates since the game launched & still has another on the way..., but yikes! The game is always online & exists as many different persistent game worlds -- it's been improved, but both Fallout 4 & 76 fall victim to performance issues (Fallout 4 really missed it in terms of graphics, & the game has some serious glitching to it as well) & the always present & pervasive appeal to player microtransactions. This introduces the fun of potentially having to pay real money for something as basic as quick travel...once. & That's just not cool! Plus, Fallout 4 & 76 really marked a turn away from the modding community, which they claimed wasn't what they were doing at all...they just left the option open while releasing their own premium mod content...(?) I don't know. Fallout 4 & 76...in my own opinion...are not too difficult to skip altogether... Otherwise, Clayton -- you need a small form factor PC you can connect to your Home Theater; with Steam's controller support, it gets the PC pretty close to the ease of playing on a console...you'd still need easy access to a mouse & keyboard though.

@2:27 If you are part of the PC master race, you can start anywhere and save a lot of money doing so, do to regular discounts. 😘🤗 The market for console games coincides with the collectors market and physical copies are scarce, so expect to pay at least 50% to 100% more for it. 🤔 Unless you think of the Steam Deck as console, then you benefit from the discounts, too. 🤷‍♂ I started with Fallout 4 and in hindsight it is the most accessible for newbs. If you are a hardcore roleplay enthusiast and love the original lore, you probably won't like it because that isn't the focus of the game. @6:10 As a console peasant, you could use a Steam Deck to play it or a half decent laptop with APU would suffice.😘🤔 @10:14 Currently, I am into Fallout 3 GOTYE. I've never played the Fallout series. Now that its got my curiosity, I am going to try it. Many have said to start the series with a later game but with me I like to start at the very beginning so I am going to start with the very first one. I like seeing how a franchise get its start and this is the best way how. I've also played PC games way back when I had an IBM 286 PC and the way consoles are going nowadays I may return to PC gaming since I have many more options compared to consoles. Great video discussion.

I downloaded a Fallout game in my phone a few years ago but have never played it. I did see a hilarious video of Goat Simulator having a Fallout easter egg in it. I was about to watch the show when your video popped out. Nice.

After watching the series, I remembered that I had not actually beaten Fallout 4. Many years ago, I had got to a point in multiple quest lines and I couldn't decide which one to commit to. Excited to be starting over again!

you should add Fall out Tactics to the list, it's like Fallout 1 and 2 but you control a squad through the story. Also it has the voice stylings of R. Lee Ermey (drill sergeant in Full Metal Jacket)

The bombs didnt fall in the 50s. The world of Fallout is basically how people in the 50s imagined the future to be, but the great war actually happened in 2077, and most the games take place hundreds of years after the war.

Really does depend alot... of modern gamers (younger ones) havent played a isometric rpg and refuse too. I grew up playing them (I am 32) but if they can play them I would go with Fallout 1 then 3 (fallout 2 is not as good as 1 and feels like an expansion) then New Vegas. Ignore 76 and well I dunno never really liked Fallout 4 I was so disapointed in it tbh. One cool thing about it I found out on release date of fallout 4 was I named myself Badass and codsworth would say "Ahh!! Mr Badass" it was funny. I am playing Baldur's Gate Enhanced, I grew up playing them 🙂 Also great to see you doing more on this channel Clayton :-)

Been playing since I was a kid in 1997, the first 2 games have the best story and the darkest tone also the best soundtrack in my opinion but, if you just watched the show I would probably recommend you play fallout New Vegas as it takes place close to where the show took place and and will help build or fill in unanswered questions from the show for people who aren't familiar. Fallout 4 has the best gameplay and scrap/upgrading and crafting system. It also has a mode called survival mode which I would highly recommend (fallout new Vegas has one also) as it makes surviving in the wasteland a very tense and punishing experience. If you do go down the road of playing fallout 4 first just understand that the story is not that good so make sure you wander the wasteland in search of side quests and random events to avoid the boring story.

I was gonna play all of them but, ultimately, there are too many good games in my backlog and too little time. I played 1 so I could at least understand the inception of the series and it honestly was a transformative experience. That game was fundamental for the trajectory of future cRPGs. I tried a bit of Fallout 2 but the “chosen one” angle was way too overdone from the beginning and so I stopped playing it. Many months later, I will soon start my fallout experience again with New Vegas and then wait for Fallout London.

Listening to this while buying gamepass to jump into a fresh hardcore playthrough of new vegas. If its too rough for me, i'll try 76. Fallout 4 is def the best bet, but it's also the one i've already played the most. I tried 3 and new vegas. Little more new vegas than 3. I wished i coulda finished NV. Now i'm finally gonna.

It's definitely best to start out playing with a buddy, so FO76 was my go-to. My daughter and I have been playing for just over a year now, and loving it! I just began FO4 to play on my own. I do agree with your buddies' idea of starting with 3 for the lore..but you can also take time exploring and reading everything along the way to piece things together like I do in 4 and 76.(requires patience though) Great games..good show!

4 is the only one I "own" and I've only spent 4.5 hours on it in the course of several years. I am planning on starting a new game entirely once the update hits. Should be the 25th of April... Stellar Blade comes out the 26th though so I'll likely push my Fallout further back on the burner. Gotta have me my Blades n h**s🤭

I've played video games since the time of pong, and have loved Fallout since Fallout 3. As a matter of fact, I just logged off 76 half an hour before this video popped up in my feed. My two cents: Fallout 1 and 2 - I just can't do it. I would have been all over them when they first released (I passed them over at the time in favor of D&D flavored fantasy fare), but now the graphics and gameplay are just too ancient for my tastes. And for me, the first person model of the game is what it is all about...feeling alive in the world. Don't worry about playing them, it doesn't start to get real good until 3...IMHO. Fallout 3 - Excellent starting point, but still not necessary. My favorite geographic setting so far, but... Fallout New Vegas - Certain fanboys of a purist type strain insist this is the Mangnum Opus. Not for me. I can almost stomach the western mojave setting, but something about this dated version will not allow me to get more than half way through until I ask myself why I am not playing the superior version (in my opinion) instead of wasting time with this. Again, just can't do it, apparently. Fallout 4 - The best. Not without flaws (playing the same damned story lines gets on my nerves. Makes me want to kill Shawn as soon as I pop out of the vault) but, and this will be a contentious issue for certain types, the addition of building your own settlements was the best idea Bethesda came up with for the series. Why? It was the first serious step in immersion....creating your own identity and building in the world around you. Fallout 76 - Again, I don't care for the West Virginia country vibe at all. And both 3 and 4 were better stories by far. However, you can still build your home in this, and more importantly, it is the only game in the franchise that is built to let you play with (or against) friends. That is the draw. It was garbage on launch, but very much worthwhile now, provided you are into the whole fallout thing and want to do it with friends. Again, I've been gaming a LONG time now. I heard of the series when it launched, but dismissed them because I wasn't into the post-apocalyptic genre. Then I tried 3 on a lark, and have been hooked ever since. To my surprise, if I cannot say that 4 is my favorite game of all time, then I can at least say that Fallout is my favorite game series, hands down. If you're coming in off the tv series, you're in for a treat with the games. But I think Clayton is right, do the games before the series if you still have the option. If you want a simple start without going the lore-obsessive route that Clayton is set on...start with 4 and continue on with 76. Then you too can become a clown like me, juggling Skyrim and Starfield, always returning to Fallout. Cheers!
