I think you should have taken a point or two away from the Nutrichopper since it kept pinching your hand. Who wants to use a device that keeps doing that?

A couple more things to consider. A person with arthritis in their hands would have a hard time squeezing the smaller one. Plus the fact it kept pinching .

These gadgets waste your time and money. Buy a good 8" chef knife, a good paring knife and a cutting board. They'll do anything these gadgets can, plus more. They take up less room, work faster and are easier to clean and sharpen.

Not to be a nitpicky, but I don't think you're "dicing" anything with either of those contraptions. 13:18 was like an infomercial in and of itself. LOL "OH NOOO!" I made my own that actually works up to the size of an average cantaloupe, It takes very little effort and no need for a knife except for certain things. A cucumber? No problem... Place it on the cutting "board" and slide the end cutters to cut the ends off and slice or dice length-wise or width-wise (like for a salad). Maybe I should sell it, but I don't want the quality reduced so it fits into a $9.99 or $19.99 "As shown on TV" type of format.

I've had the Vidalia for years and wouldn't do without it. Love it for everything, including canning. Fabulous tool. I have the vidalia chopper and I love it. I use mine for dicing. I do not use it as an everyday gadget, but for large scale cooking, canning and for precise dicing . It works best when using slices . I'm very slow at dicing things up so this totally speeds things up for me. I prep everything into slices, then go to town! You were very gentle with your chopper, I toss my item in and slam the lid down, chuck in the next rinse and repeat, a huge pile is done in no time. I use it most for tomatoes , onions , celery, cukes and peppers.

I use my Vidalia Chopper all the time. I cut slices (with a knife) the thickness of the cubes in the grid - thicker for the large grid, and thinner for the small. I cut onions, potatoes, green peppers, carrots, avocados. Because I regularly cook for very large groups of people (casseroles for several hundred) I save tons of time and effort, and get perfectly diced vegetables every time. Also, chopping slices reduces the effort to what an old lady like me can comfortably do.
@sunstripe85
@sunstripe85 4 года назад
I use the vidalia every time I make pico de gallo and it works really well. I didn't know there was a later version so I'll have to look into that. It does work with tomatoes you just have to cut them in half or otherwise have it so the skin is against the top and the cut part is against the blades or if you slice it then it doesn't matter because basically you just need the soft part against the blades. But I use it for all of that from the tomatoes to the peppers to the onions and I have tried with cilantro but it doesn't work super well. The only problems I really have with the vidalia is that it will occasionally catch against the top like happened in this video and you have to kind of jiggle it to get it to release and cleaning the little block area can be kind of annoying sometimes however you can put the entire thing in the dishwasher which is freaking awesome. Or at least I do and I'm lazy and I put them on the bottom rack so it's pretty versatile and it holds up to a lot of crap. The Nutri Chopper just looks extremely annoying to me because of the small capacity and the fact that you have to put so much effort in your hands and wrists whereas with the vidalia you can just lean your entire body on it

Another enjoyable video. Although, you didn't even talk about one of the features of the Vidalia, which was one of the selling features for me when I bought one years ago, and that's the container. I can chop a lot of different food with that and store it in the container part. Or, I can carry it to a pan without getting my counters dirty. With the Nutrichopper, not only do you have to cut your food small before slicing/dicing, it looks like you can't store a whole lot (although it does have a seal tight lid which the Vidalia doesn't). Also, like others have said, you need to cut the tomato in half to get a better comparison. Other than that, keep up the great work, I've been enjoying your vids for a couple years.

My Vidalia chopper also has a slicer and two sizes of grater, as well as a thingy you use to hold the veggie you’re slicing so you don’t slice your fingers (and you really, really need to use that-as I learned the hard way). Anyway, I highly recommend it. My only grumble is it is kind of a pain to clean that top thing-veggie pieces get way up in there and do not want to come out, even with the claw.

Not if you're doing large quantities. That's when I break out my Vidalia chopper and it cranks out very quickly. For dicing one tomato I just use my chef knife. This review was pretty bad because he didn't know how to properly use the Vidalia chopper and it's not even designed to slice. In the future I'd get the newer Vidalia Chopper - Pro Max because it's also much faster to clean and it even has a slicing blade.
@kell_checks_in

@@RogerHaeske Exactly. As its name implies, the Vidalia is what I use for onions 90% of the time. If you place food skin/tough side up, it works great, and it's incredibly fast on large quantities. They're not that hard to wash, either. If you put the blade unit in water immediately after using it, stuff won't get stuck to the blades. Then, you just hit it with the sink sprayer.

I've got the vidalia, don't use it too often because it's kind of hard to clean, but it can save time and effort when you need to dice a lot. Tomatoes aren't usually a problem if you halve them first, although some squishing is to be expected (not as bad as yours, however). Also, the less tall you can make the food, the less force it'll take to get it though the blades.

I have the Vidalia chopper & I use it to dice a whole onion or a whole bell pepper then I put them in freezer bags so whenever I need some diced onions or peppers for a recipe, it’s all ready to go. There are just 2 in my household so when I get an onion or pepper I never use the entire vegetable & would end up throwing it out because they go bad. Using this has saved me in that respect so I don’t always have to keep buying a whole onion when I only need 1/3 or 1/2 onion. $ saver for me. Also, I do have arthritis in my hands so it has also been helpful that way.

Great review. The downfall of many of the chopping/slicing units is the amount of pre-cutting required to make the vegetables to fit the units. I recently found one on QVC called the Genius 12-Cup Chopper w/5 Blades and Glass Baker w/Storage Lid. The cutting area is 4" x 4 1/2", so it handles most items with very little prep cutting. I find myself using it often as I had a bad arthritic attack on my right arm that left me with less than half the strength I would normally have (slowly recuperating), as it doesn't require a lot of effort to press. There are a glutton of units available from many sources with varied cutting blades for different shapes and sizes. The Genius line alone has probably had ten or more variations on the unit in different sizes and blade assortments. The one I bought though has been the largest I've seen to date. Though if you are looking for something to dice only, look for an old fashioned potato fry cutter. Not so great for soft veggies, but it will have the best leverage for cutting fries than most any other unit.

I have a chopper that is just a ring with blades used on any flat surface by pushing down over the food. It is 4" round which is great for most things. It can slice, chop, dice, and wedge. It also has a wedge blade with core circle that works ok. The food doesn't need to be flat and there is no pushing die to clean. It's not perfect but better and much simpler than most of the other gadgets I've thrown away..

@@jamesTBurke Thank you! If people would just properly pronounce on "MAN-do-lin" and the other "MAN-do-leen," there might be less confusion.

@@laurahubbard6906 honestly I've never heard of a mandoline before the comments here

@@jamesTBurke Sorry about the missing "E". Interestingly, I own both. The food slicer and a bowl back mandolin from approximately 1915.

As a person who has to use a dicer for onions and tomatoes to make a bunch of Gauc, even with the larger area of the bigger one, it's still best to cut the onion into 4ths and the tomato in half. As with the tomato the skin will cause it to mush and for the onion you'll have to use way more force then needed.

I love watching your reviews. My favorite part. realizing how easy it is to do all of these things using every day objects. Do I need any of these choppers… no personally I’ll keep using a knife. But then I don’t chop that much.

My family had a Vidalia for years and used it for tons of meals.

I feel for the tomato you put it too close to the right edge rather than centering it. I’d still use a regular knife that I can pick up for four cents though lol

You should have used the Nicer Slicer Dicer. I have one and I love it. It has slicing, dicing, apple wedges, mandolin, and shredder blades with a large container. That would have been a better comparison.

James, I bought the Vidalia chopper back when it came out in 2006...I loved it and used it for years until I broke the hinge. Most fruits and veggies require you to cut them in halves, thirds, or quarters...including the small dicing option. Lastly, I never once pinched myself using the vidalia chopper. Love your videos.👍👍Born and raised in Ames/Boone, Iowa, but consider Alaska to be my home. #Iowegians

I remember my mother having a similar gadget in the 70’s. It was all metal with metal wires. We used it to make French fries out of whole potatoes. Checking eBay it looks like our cutter was similar to the ekco miracle cutter.

I was going to buy this couple weeks ago but decided not to, so glad because the pinching my fingers would have totally pissed me off. Thanks for the vid.

I use the mince/small dice on the Vidalia for onions all the time. I usually quarter the onion -- works easier and faster.

Any nightshade (tomatoes, peppers...) skin will get hung up in the Vidalia if you put it in skin down. Anything halved or quartered placed flesh-side down will usually work great, though.
