Other than boot space, where ID4 obviously wins, I’d favour EV6 in pretty much every other aspect! Two good cars, but this shows how far Kia (and Hyundai also, of course) have come now to compete with the big guys.

Bear in mind that Kia/Hyundai have stolen a march on VAG cars with the excellent E Niro and Kona, both of which are more efficient than these two cars. 3 year old fossil compromised design E Niros are still outselling MEB platform cars. Also bear in mind that the EV6 here is driving 2 motors, 4 wheels, whereas the id.4 is only running the rear wheels,, so an unfair comparison that should have been acknowledged by the reviewer. Interesting that no mention of the differences in software between the cars. EVs have more tech generally than similar fossil cars and the software ease of use, snappiness and reliability is essential. There are lots of poor reports for the MEB o platform cars including the id.4.

As others have already alluded to, the Kia has the technically 'more efficient' drivetrain, since it's the all-wheel-drive model compared to the single motor iD.4 yet proved 'equally' efficient in real-world terms. Not that I could afford to go for either of these ( 😪 ) but, for me, the Kia is simply the better-looking outside, plus of higher quality inside which, after all, is where it matters most. I just love these back-to-back tests, Richard - you are the undisputed 'king' of stats, dude...! 😎

The AWD ID.4 is very efficient as well, only giving up 9 miles of range while gaining 105 HP, impressive since the ID.4 has quite a bit more usable space being taller and having a larger rear opening. If you want a sportier looking vehicle then its the EV6, it's lower to the ground and has a lower roof line, but for hauling something inside, the ID.4 will be better.

Seems then that the Kia is more effective, given that it was the AWD version versus the RWD version of the ID4. It stands to reason that the AWD ID4 would have less range. The Kia is also the nicest looking car, and the interior look more modern.

No , check Videos from Tesla Björn in Norway...front engine is perfectly disengaged and means almost same consumption on long distances I drove ID4 GTX and Ioniq 5 (similar to EV6) RWD...awful consumption in my Test of the Ioniq at 27kwh/100km and 18.6kwh driving a similar Route with the AWD GTX. Dropped Ioniq 5 immediatelly from my List...and it has also a strange steering setting...felt like jumping like a rabbit...and the Lane Assist was awful, too...bouncing between lines compared to the ID4, driving exactly in the middle of the Line.

We're ID.3 owners and find that at this time of year (November in the UK) we are getting 4.3 miles/kWh giving us a range similar to the bigger ID.4 / EV6 but with only a 58kW usable battery capacity. If we were to go for a larger car it would be an ID.4 and not because we are badge snobs (we have owned Fords, Vauxhalls, Peugoets and Rovers in the past) as this is our first VW, but because we like the ID practicality and simplicity and would only be upgrading for more internal space. When choosing the ID.3 we did look at Kia eNiro and Hyundai Kona and Ioniq and almost bought a Kona until somebody ushered us towards an ID.3 at the back of a BMW dealership which looked unwanted and unloved. We took it for a test drive more out of politeness than anything else and it blew our minds away. The ID.3 gets an unfairly bad knocking from influencers and reviewers. I get it: they just don't.

That is a great comparison of two great cars :) You compared a RWD ID.4 with an AWD EV6, the RWD EV6 is more efficient than the AWD version. I picked up my Hyundai Ioniq 5 last week (really happy), all the bongs and noises are similar to the EV6. The bong at 6:44 marks the start of a piece of road having average speed cameras, and the bong at 7:19 marks the end of it. It is a Korean car, so be prepared to get bongs for really everything. Automatically moving lanes (8:00) indeed works really well most of the time, but it is slow (8 seconds to move one lane) and in the dark it doesn't work because it relies on cameras. If the speed limit on the motorway changes (e.g. from 70 mph to 50 mph) it can automatically adjust to that. I found the zigzagging noted at 8:14 more annoying in the EV6 than in the Ioniq 5, it is searching for the middle of the lane all the time, but doesn't seem to always find it that well... Sometimes it is not as bad, and you can switch it off. I never experienced phantom braking (10:05) Otherwise, it is a fantastic car. Really comfortable, has loads of space and really everything is automatic in the top spec model. The top spec VW ID.4 is more expensive in the Netherlands and was not available for me (sold out) and I like the design, ride comfort and infotainment of the Hyundai more, so the choice was quickly made. And the summon mode on the Ioniq 5 is a great gimmick, making my day every day I am driving it :) If I would order a Kia EV6, I would definitely order it in Deep Forest Green. I saw it in that colour in real life, it really stands out. The top spec model doesn't have this colour in NL (weird), so Yacht Blue in the video is second best for sure. Or maybe Gravity Blue is even better, but also not available on the GT Line in NL... My Ioniq 5 is Atlas White with a white leather interior. That is also really nice looking (if I manage to keep it clean).

@@neildavies473 Yes, really happy. It is a great car, it drives really well and it was available. If you want to buy one now, you have to wait until May or June next year. All the other popular EVs in this price range are currently sold out where I live, which is remarkable. I had to mentally prepare for "going EV" as well. On the one hand, range anxiety is always present somehow, on the other hand the car has a range of about 250 km if charged between 15-80%. Luckily I live in The Netherlands, where almost half of all the public charging spots in Europe are located (no joke!). It would be a completely different story if I had to travel a few miles to get to the nearest charging station, now I can choose between 5 public charging spots in a 500 m radius around my house.

I guess the big difference will be the charge times, when you charge the EV6 when out and about, the EV6 should be like the Taycan, the ID4 will be slower? My 4S did 246 miles with the ambient at 15C on a journey from Northamptonshire to Littlehampton and back mix of Motorway, A roads and B roads. The EV6 would make a great second car for us. In the end, both use Rimac expertise as both Porsche / Kia / Hyundai are working with Rimac for the 800V system / motors / drive systems. In case of charging there is no preheating of battery before charging. So first xy minutes coldgating after that rapidgating. Temperature between cells is around/more10°C and that is main problem why coldgating is too long and rapidgating to soon. In case of eNiro difference is around 6°C between cells.

The ID.4 with dual motor would be similar because the dual motor does not kick in unless the car is pushed. It will turn itself off at normal motorway speeds. Dont know your circumstances but you don't need to charge so fast around where you live, its more useful to charge fast when you're on a longer journey. If you regularly drive away from your county then check again, the Ioniq 5/EV6 will fare better in terms of journey times. If you rarely charge away from your local area then yes Enyaq would be my choice too using 11kW AC 'slow' chargers or 50kW networks.

Another great video but I find the comments about 250 mile range slightly misleading. Yes, that’s the range if you run from 100% to 0% but who does that? Who will ever run their car down to 0%? Given the recommendation for battery usage is to try and stick between 10-80% charge so in the real world your likely maximum usable range is in the region of 175 miles (against a manufacturer claimed range of around 300 miles)…..and therein lies the reason why I cancelled my Ioniq 5 order and went for a PHEV. Until these cars can do a minimum of at least 250 usable miles ie actual 0-100% range of in excess of 300 miles even in cold weather and at motorway speeds then switching to full EV is not for me.
@michaelgoode9555
@michaelgoode9555 10 месяцев назад
You are partially right. It is acceptable to charge a car to 100% if you are about to use it so if you have a 300 mile drive your car could be at 100% on your drive ready to go having charged up overnight. I personally still would not charge beyond 90% partly because regen works better if the battery is not full and partly because we would never need 100% for our needs. If you really do need 300 miles of uninterrupted range then there are options and will be many more in the next 2 or 3 years. Don't forget that EV tech is about 13 years old but ICE tech is about 130 years old.

Seems like the Kia is more efficient, because you did the trip in an AWD Kia, vs. a RWD VW. The RDW-only version of the EV6 advertises longer range than the AWD version. Also, Bjorn Nyland’s testing suggests that the 77.x Kwh is useable capacity on the ID.4, but total capacity on the EV6, from what I understand. So a couple of reasons in this video to think that Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP Platform is more efficient than VW Group’s MEB platform. Thanks for the otherwise apples-to-apples testing (weather, sited, etc.)! :-)

@@FernandoRodriguez-pj5uh 😊 Lucky man having both M3 and Id4. Id4 great suv car but I am not keen on suvs. Great to have so much choice 😊🌏, we have a small space in front of our BMW i3 and use it for cabils and soft bag 🎒 when the my girls fill the car with stuff, we are all different. For me its tidy engineering to use space as efficant as possible, if a car had a long nose 🤥 wast of space not to have a Fronk😊. @@buzzofftoxicblog791 I do watch his videos. They are educational but I don’t base my buying decisions on these videos. I go drive and if I like the car and the drive and love the vehicle then I go for it. Besides the fact that no other EV had vehicles available for delivery. To be honest the drunk to me is just a fad. As I said I never use the one in the M3 and the two times I tried to put something there it didn’t fit!!!

Talking about motorway driving, i have a Ioniq5 RWD and cant decide if brake resistance on or off is better for range efficiency. I appreciate that using the brake resistance to gather additional battery charge, but does the resistance also cost you range, and would they balance out as you can coast a lot more using no energy with resistance on 0 ? Anyone thank you,

To add some detail - had an EV6 Gt Line S RWD on lengthy test drive over the weekend. Frost both nights and temperatures only just above freezing for pretty much all of the 174 miles I drove. Drove it normally, not like I stole it, and managed 2.8m/kwh - with 20% charge left the projected range was 39 miles, so in all just over 210 miles range in cold (for the UK) temperatures. Pretty much exactly ties in with the rules of thumb, namely in real world expect 80% of wltp and deduct a further 20% for winter use. So its not for me - I hoped for a bit better. Also worth pointing out the HVAC seemed to have an issue - namely blew warm for 20 mins then whatever you did, whatever you set the temperature at, it just blew cold air. Further digging around forums has highlighted a potential issue all to do with a faulty compressor - Kia are apparently aware

Kia EV6 definitely won this, because it is as efficient as the ID4 although it has all wheel drive and the ID4 is rear wheel drive. The Kia as rear wheel drive model is more efficient as the all wheel drive, like it is in any other EV. So if you would have compared the ID4 with the Kia as rear wheel drive as it would be fair than the Kia would win. That's not a complaint about the comparison, just saying that you have to consider that

All these people going on about AWD vs Rear wheel drive, you do realize that the EV only uses the extra motor for AWD when needed, not all the time right, when it needs extra traction it engages, or if you punch it, and it needs the extra power, otherwise its letting the rear motor do most of the work to save energy

These range tests using only part of the battery and using the percentage of battery use reported by the car should be taken with many grains of salt. It could be right but you just don't know. If you started both at 100% (when it refused to take more energy) and drove them together on the same route and then recharged them both to refusal and took the number of kWh used you would get an accurate comparison of distance/kWh but you would still not know the real usable capacity of the battery which can only be determined by driving it to the point where the car dramatically cuts the power (to a few % of full charge amount) or just stops. Please do that kind of test.
