By many extremely knowledgeable guys, the Antileon Evo is one of the best out of all amps out there. That said, I own the Mephisto Solo. I guess that the question will always remain relative to the speakers being driven. Unless one day all reviewers agree on the One pair of speakers to be exclusively used for reviewing, thanks to the best balance, transparency and neutrality.
I ordered Esssence amp and Pandora preamp prior to this video. It's great to know that this latest Essence's performance ranks 2nd in the Gryphon lineups which is huge. Thank you so much Jay for doing this for us!
I purchased the Gryphon Mephisto earlier this week. It is still running in. But even when cold, the separation and layering, bass texture and dynamics are insane. I am anxious to find out what more it can do when it has fully settled in....can't wait. Now my hunt for suitable power cables starts!
@@joeb4349 Currently using Accuphase pre (with Gryphon Pandora pre on the way)...also using Accuphase, APL DSD-SR MK2 and Esoteric Grandioso K1 DAC/Transport as sources at the moment. You can check out some of the tracks I have uploaded on RU-vid.
I fully agree with you. Having said that, the Gryphon pandora preamplifier with 2 mono Mephisto power amplifiers are just unbeatable, In my opinion, although my recommendation would be gryphon loudspeakers too just like the Trident (powered woofers) or even the Kondo loudspeakers system, one of my top favorite systems in the world.
I just bought the essence combo . Used to have the diablo 300. Great improvement and the 1st time i have ‘real’ high end amplification in my house. Will combine it with wilson sasha daw or v, now b&w 802… looking forward to it. Thank you forthe advice Jay 👍
Can you comment on the essence stereo vs monos? I would also love to hear how you see the Diablo 300s fitting in - I have heard that they are closer.to.the Mephistos in character, but I don't how much more diluted that character is. I am coming from an Ayre AX-5 Twenty and debating how far I need to jump into the range
i have had the diablo 300 here and it sounds nothing like the essence i have, but it sounds great also, but very different to the essence, i would say it is like an anthilion that took some speeds and like to play loud, not for low listening levels, also needs careful speaker sinergy to not sound to shouty
Old design just like Pass Labs, they don't like to change their sound that much . Good amp if that's the sound you are into and yes I could live with them . They are expensive but so are many amps now .
Hi Jay, you should go back to hard criteria such as soundstage, bass quality, etc. This would help potential buyers to separate your personnel taste/opinion. Btw, now you would recommend Soulution 725 for Gryphon owners? Or just for Antileon Evo owners?
Thanks so much for all the guidance, Jay! Your channel is a goldmine for people like me... Quick DAC question for you: what would be your pick for best DAC given a budget of approx. 40k? More specifically, would you go with the Soulution 560, dCS Rossini w/clock or something else entirely? I tend to like a slightly warmer sound with the biggest stage and best impact I can get. My dealer swears up and down the 560 is by far the best DAC in this price range and beats the Rossini by a significant margin, but due to Covid I won't get a chance to demo either before purchasing. Appreciate the help and recommendation if you can find the time...

Here is my dilemma. I just upgraded to McIntosh C1100 pre amps. I was looking to go McIntosh amps as well, but after your high praise of Gryphon I may get the Coliseum Stereo. Found a good deal but before I shell out €20k wanted to make sure it would play well with my McIntosh gear. Is there a way I can email you or you could answer here but I’d like to go a little deeper into the McIntosh Gryphon Marriage. I had a Gryphon Diablo 300 integrated for 2 weeks in my home, to swap the Boulder 866 integrated. I loved the gryphon, but when i send it back to the dealer, i was surprised by the Boulder again, i think more for the DAC, but never mind... I came to the conclusion that if i want an upgrade, i have to jump up to a power pre set. I never heard the essence but i am very curious to do it, now that i heard jay in this video. Pls jay have you ever heard the diablo 300? And what is the diferences between them? TY
like i have said before, i have the gryphon essence and it works great with many of the speakers i tried here, currently using it with avantgard uno xd where for my 65 to 85db listening level is using around 10w max. My only "probably" with the essence is that it takes around 1h to stabilize and sound perfect

I wouldn’t buy the Apex, even if I was as wealthy as Jay, I can’t care less about a 450 pound object sitting g in my room, even if it was priced at $5k🤷🏻♂️
