So I went with a Watershot case for an IPhone 6 Plus. The reasons are obvious in theta it is cheap and versatile but it doesn't have a lot of lens port options. I am looking at camera trays as well as making it neutrally buoyant but that's for a future build. I am a bit of a mad scientist and like to make everything myself. Reinventing the wheel is always more fun the second time around. I enjoy the videos as well as the inspirations Thanks

I recently stepped up from my Nikon D200 in a Sea and Sea aluminum housing (bought second hand). I dove this set up for over a decade and was ready for an upgrade. I got a Nikon D850 and chose the Nauticam housing for it. I like the durability of aluminum over plastics. I read review after review and poured over forums and the consensus seemed to be that the Nauticam was the most ergonomic. I'm in Texas, so the closest dealers were either in Florida or Illinois, so I had to rely on a number of phone conversations to get all the pieces parts right. Also got a Nauticam housing for my husband's Canon G7x2. Such well made and good looking housings! I'm looking forward to getting my new rig in the water this weekend in Bonaire.

I like the housing of my Sony RX100M5 (MPK-URX100A), because it is so small and affordable and good for travelling, I tested also the SeaHorse for my NX80, it is not so good for my bag, because it is bigger, but the bouyance was so great, like a small submarine

Hi, just discovered your videos and love them. I've always been a holiday diver (a holiday treat rather than all the time) and enjoy wildlife photography. So when I went to the Maldives (honeymoon) in 2012, I wanted to get good diving photos. I researched housings (for a Canon 7d) but couldn't afford the cost of a full one (they're really expensive). So I got a EWA Marine bag-type housing. It didn't allow for any fine control, but for that once in a lifetime trip, getting decent photos while diving was great, and well worth it (the other affordable option being not taking my camera diving or buying an underwater compact (which were still quite pricey, and not nearly as good then as they are now)).

great video but tbh youre talking about very high end options and very niche needs. no problem in that just think that should be stated. i have a canon 80D and ive got a housing for that camera. its a plastic housing no zoom rings or focus rings. no option for hotshoe connection either. but im very happy it does what it needs to do goes down to 60m and thats enough. it cost about 400€ which is fairly cheap but i wasnt willing to pay 3000€ for a nauticam. i get by with using primes or zooms at a fixed length. my dome port is acrylic and also more than enough. often times you dont have perfect crystal clear water and i dont have the best of the best lenses so i might not be getting the best results but im not missing out on much either. same goes for monitors or strobes - i could get by with optical slave but strobes are ao expensive that i wont be buying them anytime soon. so for everybody thats out there: you can get great foto and video with a more or less basic setup that wont cost you an arm and a leg. even cheap housing will last you probably a decade and by then if you really enjoyed it you can get a new camera and a better housing if you feel you need it!

This is great education for UW video. It seems almost impossible to find anything recent on UW video equipment. Please keep it coming! I already have camera, housing, lights, etc. but believe I may have to start completely over. My recent video efforts are quite disappointing. I would like to video sharks at, say 30m and need to discover the ideal gear to do so. Than,s Jay

Great video! Very informative. I need your opinion on trays. Planning to get a tray and housing from seafrogs for my sony 6400. Do you recommend the lightweight aluminum tray (524gm) or the regular aluminum tray (646gm). My reservation of getting the lighter tray is that it would make my setup become overly buoyant. Many thanks in advance and more power!

Thanks for your helpful video. Two questions: I am using a Olympus Em1MII with the nauticam housing - Housing ist great - unfortunately the em1MII is great for stills but not for filming: So I consider to switch to the GH5 - Would you prefer a GH5 or a GH5S (no imagestabilization, better in low light ?)? Do you always use an external monitor (ninja V?) for filming? Is it a clear improvement? (travelling volume and weight, bouyancy) Thanks Hope we get somewhere to dive soon...

it's not thaaat bad!!! ;) There are plenty of options!!! Sony XR100, A6600 A 6400, Olympus,... smaller cameras with smaller housings...

A cheaptest way to void any fog inside the house is put a pice of smoke paper inside, they will absorve all humidity from the air inside the house. works pretty fine on Rio de Janeiro, with a 40ºC out of water and 16º inside the water

Question: I’m looking to invest in an underwater system and want to make sure the camera I purchase is the best quality since the housing is extremely expensive. I’m looking at purchasing either the: Sony AR7 IV, Panasonic S1H, or Panasonic GH5. I love taking both video and pictures. I’m concerned about the low light and autofocus limitations of GH5 but also concerned about lack of 4K 60p on Sony. Not sure what to do. Please help!

My main problem has always been finding a dome port/zoom ring component for my lense (24-70mm) on these charts.
@ReefPatrol
@ReefPatrol 5 лет назад
which housing manufacturer? Which camera manufacturer? And what specific lens?
@karyleianawildernesscapes
@karyleianawildernesscapes 5 лет назад
@@ReefPatrol I've been looking at Nauticam, Aquatica, Sea&Sea, etc. For my D810 & the TAMRON 24-70mm. They usually just list Sigma &/or Tokina, along side the native Nikkor lenses, but none for my lense preference. & I'd rather not spend extra buying a separate lense just for the dome port to get a housing, yknow? This was a fantastic video & great info/advice. I just wish I could find my set-up. In the meantime, I do alot with my gopro & knekt dive gear 📸😊
@ReefPatrol
@ReefPatrol 5 лет назад
I am not really sure if a 24-70 is your best bet underwater @@karyleianawildernesscapes ... not even sure if there is a Port that will work with that zoom range? I'd rather go with a more wider lens, because if you add in the magnification of the water, the focal lengh will be even longer. also you loose light & color after just a few meters, so you can't even zoom in properly without loosing quality. Perhaps look into something like a 16-35mm and a macro 90/100mm lens?
@91xerox17
@91xerox17 5 лет назад
@@karyleianawildernesscapes Look at Isotta Housings, they made great Housings I got a Compact one (Canon S120) and love it, great Quality and all Buttons good to push Zoom Ring: www.isotecnic.it/en/component/virtuemart/dslr-housings/nikon-dslr-housings/zoom-ring-tamron-24-70-detail?Itemid=833 Housing: www.isotecnic.it/en/products/dsrl-housings/nikon-eng/d810-eng maybe there is a Shop near by you who sell it
@wahrsoba
@wahrsoba 5 лет назад
@@ReefPatrol A dome port compensates the light refraction index uw. The closest focusing distance of the lens is important. If that's not close enough you'll need an additional wet diopter. If 24-70mm makes sense is something completely different.
