Mike and Melissa, U could add a sheet of paper, or similar, with your OUTDOORS WITH THE MORGANS logo in the first wrap. Then the subsequent wraps would seal it in and still be highly visible for your product. Love your channel.

One advantage of the bagged firewood is that when you only use a partial bundle, you have the bag to neatly hold what was not used. With the wrap, once you remove the wrap, you have to somehow store the remaining pieces of wood.

Hey bud, I like both bundling systems, you can use the bags for friends and neighbors, and shrink rap for where people are going to grab and go. I would make 2 suggestions 1, your drop off pallet needs to be higher so you don't have to bend down every time . (Bending down every time will kill your back). Also, on the bags tie a bow instead of a double knot. People may not take the time to undo a double knot and just cut the knot just something to think about. 😊😊😊😊
@martin_kiln_and_slabworks

I don't even tie it. After you cinch up the bags, the bark seems to hold the mesh in place. Just did 120 bags and haven't had any spill out...yet lol

Technically Mike, the plastic wrap is not “shrink wrap” which is usually thicker and designed to contract when heated. The wrapper uses a self-adhering thin wrap. Picky, picky…😂 Your videos have become a regular viewing, thanks.
@robertdean9392
@robertdean9392 10 месяцев назад
Mike, I like the firewood bundler over the bagger. Reason being is that the bundler is at waist level and requires no bending over. Shrink wrap is cheaper and readily available. The bagger requires alot of bending over and the chance of wood hitting your legs with possible injury to feet or legs when rotating tube with wood into bag. Also, bags are alot more priceline. Shrink wrap also shows quality of wood versus not really being able to see the wood quality thru bag.

Good morning Mike and Melissa, it's really looking good around there. Glad everything is working out for you folks and sure hope the storms pass over your W Va property. We are still in the OVEN down here in Deep East Texas working on our record number of consecutive above 100 degree days, today will be our 18th day. I'm driving our son to Houston for his doctors appointment and it will be another scorture down there too. I like the comparrison of the firewood containment units. I like the wrapper because the firewood will be drier and less messy carrying in the car. The bagger is definetly easier to use and a cheaper startup though and will pay for it's self quicker. Stay safe and have fun. Fred. Hello to the rest of the crews and families. Fred.

Got my Amish bundler last year and getting my Wolfe Ridge bagger today. Both have their own advantages depending on someone's operation, and neither needs electric. The bags provide an automatic handle and you can put miscellaneous sizes, chunks, misfits, etc in them. You can always put a small pallet/skid under the bag when it drops for less bending over. Also if two people are working the bagger, one can load while the other ties. Add a firestarter or two into the bag and adjust your prices accordingly!

Hey, Mike and Melissa! Hope you guys are doing well! My customers prefer the bags for ease of lifting and moving around. I've also got them "semi trained" to return them for refills! That dramatically cuts down on the cost of the bags!

Mike, thank you for the comparison. I agree with you, the bag is definitely sustainable/reusable and has a better presentation, but can't argue with cost for shrink wrap. Fortunately, we have plenty of trees on our property to process our own firewood (we do not need to purchase), but this does provide excellent incentive to start selling some. Small quantities, of course, since we are cutting and splitting manually. Another great segment, thank you.

- Agree with your comparison summary of the two both kind of equal on time and convenience. Investing in either one is driven by intent, occasional household convenience or commercial production. I’d stack on ground and use bailing twine 😊 - I bought the Z-Bart undercoat protection for my 4Runner. Initially thought a wasted added expense but the follow up services are reassuring protection for a big $ vehicle.

Once the wrap is open, or even one piece is removed, that's it - it's done. A bag lets you keep a partial bundle. A bag left out in the rain will dry. Water under the plastic will stay a while. As you mentioned, you're new at the Wolf Ridge. It's one of those things that after 25 bundles muscle memory kicks in, and from dump to pallet will be only a matter of seconds. Your hands will be a blur! 😁

My powerstrokes and her duramax all got crapy milage until they got broke in and then they averaged 22 mpg. My cab and chassis was gearded different than the pick ups for pulling purposes and it got around 19mpg. Know matter what the sticker says if your working and pulling with a truck your going to burn more fuel, they should rate them both ways!. When ever I've bought a truck it wasnt for mileage it was its pulling power and durability.

M2, I get as high as 26MPG on my 2019 Duramax 2500 (with 120,000 miles on it). Mileage has steadily improved over age. I typically get 22 to 23 on my way to work. Hauling a trailer with equipment obviously will lower your mileage. I can't comment from experience on a 3500 but you will get much improved performance as the truck ages. I'm getting way better mileage than my old 1500 Silverado which averaged 16 MPG over it's 11 years that I owned it. Best of luck. Love your content. PJH

Mike as a camper for many years I can say this, if went to the camp store or a roadside stand and I had a choice of which bundle to buy it would be the bag. I have carried allot of wood to the campfire and the bag is much easier and I can carry two bags. The wrapped bundle nice for storage maybe but if you want to sell more than one at a time, go for the bag.

I’ve sold probably close to 30,000 bundles of firewood all wrapped either .75 or 1 cft. Only problem I’ve had is depending how long the sit before getting delivered on how long they sit on the rack at the store the wrapping can become loose. Plus factor in delivery time on bundles getting loose. I see the bags as a lot better option but I haven’t ever used them. I’m curious which way you go but I’d lean towards bags. Have a blessed day!

What neat machines. One small suggestion on the tying the bags off. You might want them a little easier to undo without cutting the string or tearing the bag. What I'd do is the first part of the knot like you did, but the second half of the knot do twice around the other string/twine before tightening. It's still will keep it closed but you can work it loose more easily.

Over the first month it settled and there are some signs that, as it settled, it shrunk slightly. The shrinkage was expected and insignificant. I will not buy a pick up without Rino Liner in the future. In addition, it adds considerable structural support to the bed.

Overloaded fine, most likely higher than rental fee! Plus, there are higher possibilities of the towing equipment having a failure. Shrink wrap is common place in the electronic world! Both methods on the bundling of firewood are great. Both have an advantage over the other. So, with both methods being available to your customers. You'll have a mixture of individuals! Some will love one style over the other. Others will adore their ability to have freedom of choice!

A local chain convenience store sells "a full cube" for $9.99. About $1,280 a cord! Other considerations: The bags are easier for customers to pick up and move and might warrant a slightly higher price. The wrapper can be configured for .75 or 1 CF as I recall.

Maybe the Hunt Man could operate the Wolf Ridge bagger easier than the wrapper. Seems to be less moving parts. I wonder what the convenience stores would prefer.

It would be nice if the Wood Ridge would pivot so when you turn the bag up side down it would land on the platform.

'08 DuraMax here LMM and I get 13-14 mpg towing with out a re-gen thrown in. 12-14 if a re-gen occurs. Load is normally 10k on the trailer.

Nice comparison. It seems maybe the Wolf Ridge is set up in less than an ideal configuration. The bag when dropped should land on the platform, not on the ground. It makes no sense to have to pick it up and put it on the platform to tie it. Also, for production, you wouldn't have the wood behind you so that you have to turn around to pick it out of the side by side. Instead, the equipment would be placed so that you just reach to your right to grab the wood - pallet would be off to your left to minimize steps.

Agreed on both points. That's exactly how we setup our operation with the wolfe ridge.

G'day Mike n Mel, firewood is a by product for us and we don't like to waste anything especially since all the native forests in our state will be closed to all logging by the end of the year, you won't be allowed to fall a tree unless it has been planted or blown down or by getting a permit then having to plant one hundred in it's place and fostering them for one year. I've been playing around with bagging for a couple of years it has to be sold here by weight and I agree with Ohio Joe the customer needs to be able to see the wood clearly 👍.

Hello! 😊 I find that I get really good gas mileage when I just stay home. Maybe the fuel guzzler will get better mileage when it gets a few thousand miles on it. But if you are using the cruise control much on hills, that will burn up a lot of unnecessary fuel too. Big trucks need to be like a roller coaster, go fast down the hills and gradually slow down when ascending. Cruise controls can't do that.

Many of the youtube firewood channels use the Amish bundler which is a manual crank style and costs $800 USD.
