Something I've not seen discussed yet. Japans airport security wait times. Here in the United States. It can take quite some time to get through security and on the plane at a major airport. Which is why its always advised arriving 2 hours early. Although I've personally never been through a major airport during a busy time. My wait time through security, until the moment I sit on the plane, has been around 40 minutes.

the topic of the "magical feeling" really is why i still have trouble deciding to move to japan. japan has always been this place in my mind where its food i'll never get tired of, people that dont treat others like garbage, the amazing culture and "togetherness" that society has. its hard to describe other than "magical feeling", i've vacationed to japan every few years and i always have the same feeling like "it'd be great to live here" but i'm afraid that living in japan would eventually kill off that feeling and it'll just revert to a normal everyday life
@dixiebisquits
@dixiebisquits 5 лет назад
If it's something you really want to do, maybe dip your toes in carefully and try it for a year or so? :) From personal experience I'd say that the first year in a new country (where you wanted to move in the first place) is almost always that "safe year" when the new, exciting and exotic things hugely outnumber the dull and annoying bits. I understand your fear completely as I've actually managed to "ruin" one of my magical places by moving there. BUT... that's only because I stayed there for too long. Had I left after a year or two, I'd still find it magical :)

I think they both hit the nail on the head about the Japanese achool system preparing the students for life in Japan. From all the videos I've watched, it seems whenever you ask a japanese person to do something unusual or different from what they're told to do or instructed to do at work, they become anxious or have to ask a lot of supervisors for "help." I'm picking up that many in the Japanese workforce do what they're told and are not to differentiate from it. It's like they're not allowed to think for themselves or "think outside the box." To do so would threaten to disrupt the harmony that is so important to their society. I'm not saying this is bad. This is what works for them. Those of us who have lived elsewhere have grown up in a different environment and want our children to be raised with those same values. The Japanese feel the same way about their culture and their environment. Neither is wrong nor right, just different.
@TemperedStorm
@TemperedStorm 6 лет назад
micah philip Their manga and anime has been around for decades; we're just more aware of it due to the Internet. I personally love the anime Black Butler. I do agree with you. Japanese people are smart, creative, hard-working people. Their schools , however, hold their students to more stringent social and academic parameters.

I agree with most of chris' answers. However, after just getting back from my journey across Japan, through Tokyo, fuji, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Mt. Koya and back to Tokyo over around 9 or 10 days and also staying in tokyo and flying to miyakojima I would say the best way to explore the country if you have the money is by car. I did drive at times for 6 or 7 hours a day but the amount of freedom compared to the train I would do any day. Stopping wherever takes your fancy, and the roads are great. Toll roads weren't even as expensive as I thought. And on a personal note, leaving Japan has been the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Already looking Into living and working there.

Japan is a great place to raise kids. I raised two there, granted they went to international schools. Japan has every conceivable climate ranging from the subtropics (Okinawa) to the sub arctic (Hokkaido) to rugged mountains (Nagano). I loved taking the kids out for outings. The best though the peace of mind knowing violence and drugs are a nonissue. Parents have a responsibility to instill values in their children.
