@@CrimsonAzure-fh6yb nick roche posted about it on twitter in response to the triple takeover podcast "To clear up: I was working with Hasbro at the time, and designed Sandstorm while I was there. That was the base design, and then those crazy sods at Hasbro managed to pull my comic Springer out of it. In that order!"
@@PerspectiveEnd No Dude. I thank you. You actually made my day better. My Life really aint the best right now. Yet you gave me a bright, beautiful light. Thank you.
i was able to fix my sandstorms chest by VERY LIGHTLY supergluing around the edge of the 5 mm hole the chest plugs into, and now its actually somewhat difficult to separate the chest from the torso, and fixed it perfectly for me.
A few other people have mentioned that, and they also say it wears out. Besides you shouldn't have to fix a figure that you spend $50.00 on. It should just, working.
The waist joint on the Legacy toy is actually attached to a slider that can entend forward for more articulation in robot mode and collapse down for the transformation that makes getting to both modes easier. It's hard to notice since it's obnoxiously tight (if only that tightness was saved for the chest tabs). Using the waist slider also helps improve the profile of the Dune Buggy slightly by letting the front slope down more and all the parts sit more flush. I personally really like the Legacy toy, he's a weird one, especially in buggy mode but the helicopter mode is awesome, I just feel like some weird tolerances and clearances hold him back.
The issue with this toy is that it’s a toon body, with a toy head and paint. They’ve told us the “Chad face”-Hasbro designers 2024 is on the sprue, so yes we will be seeing a better repaint of this into season 3 sandstorm.
4:20 sandstorm: SOMEONE GIVE ME A REAL FIGHT optimus primal: ITS A FIGHT YOU WANT YOU GOT- wait what (gets caged) sandstorm: hey wreckers i caught a monkey
I liked Legacy Sandstorm but right from the moment I saw pictures I didn't feel like it was worth the Leader price. But I got super lucky when I found one at Target whos box looks like the one you got from Amazon. And because of that it was marked down to $34.99! So I basically got it for Voyager price that it should have been from the start!
Generations Sandstorm is so cool. I’ve got the Springer version of the toy and he’s an absolute show stopper. The biggest “flaw” is just that there aren’t enough IDW bots to display him with.
I'm glad the video helped you make a decision. To be clear I don't hate it, but I wouldn't be comfortable guessing that someone will be happy with this thing. I think it's most likely to disappoint.
Not correct. Springer definitely came out first with Blitzwing (2013 voyager wave 3) while Sandstorm came out in the next wave by himself (2013 voyager wave 4).
This has reminded me of actually a small gripe I have with the IDW design philosophy, alot of the designs look too cool, even when it's out of character. I know that sounds like an odd critique but you mentioned in the video that the modern Sandstorm figure looks like a nerd with a camping backpack, and imo I think that's much more in character than him being a jacked action hero like springer. In that regard the new one is an imporvement.
Well in IDW, Sandstorm was a Special Forces dude, who when he came back to civilian life, became a Serial Killer who targeted people he felt deserved to be punished.
@@PerspectiveEnd They say every time an IDW character is written Primus flips a coin, they're either the peak of Transformers fiction or the writers violent edgelord torture porn fanfic OC™
Counter-argument: why would a nerd look like a nerd? Transformers don't need an active lifestyle to maintain muscle mass so why can't everyone look cool regardless of their personality?
@@alexholker1309 I've never seen G1(grew up w/ TFP) but I really enjoy Sandstorm's G1 design. Someone pointed out his backpack looks like a knapsack/traveler's backpack and that's when the design really clicked for me. All this to say that there is merit in having the design align with the characterization of the bot.
@@alexholker1309 When I was quoting PE I don't literally mean Sandstorm would have a diminished physique compared to springer, in lore they'll probably be quite similar, I mean thematically he'd be less "warrior" like in appearance.
WOW! The race between which CHUG style figure is the superior version of Sandstorm, T30 or Legacy was really, really close. lol Thank you for another outstanding video PerspectiveEnd!! Keep on being amazing.
I have to agree but then again I consider the T30 to be one of the best triple changers ever made so i wasn't expecting the Legacy one to beat it. I did get the Legacy one for about $25 and its pretty good for the price and i do like the helicopter mode a lot. I picked up the T30 around 2020 for $40 so I'm sad it so hard to get for a reasonable price. That said the T30 didnt have the best transformation either. Getting the wheel covers out from dune buggy mode is a pain and i always have trouble with the tail end of the VTOL. As for accessories, i love the T30's Anubis gun. For the Legacy I have issues with the cage in buggy mode but i like having the pistol (I believe its supposed to be a welding gun) as the exhaust in buggy mode and the gun kind of holds in on the other side. I wish the cage had better storage in robot mode but you can kind of put it on the back. Also forgot to mention, the Legacy version stands so much better than the T30 which tends to be top heavy. Overall, I'd say the Legacy on isnt worth the price but for $25-35 its a pretty good figure (I got Tigerhawk for the same price and it was also a good $25 figure but id be upset paying full price).
Everyone is dogpiling Legacy Blitzwing, but honestly I’d give it more credit than this piece of garbage. -Blitzwing has 2/3rds of one alt-mode on his back, Sandstorm has 95% of the helicopter and 10% of the buggy. -Sandstorm has no fun transformations, but one really good alt-mode, Blitzwing has two pretty fun conversions and two alt-modes that each have one glaring flaw. -Blitzwing G1 accurate, so is Sandstorm if you count the toy head as accurate. -Both are about $10 more expensive than they should be, and both are trying to create versions of the (in my opinion) two most difficult Triple-Changers in G1.
I love Legacy Sandstorm. I love the way he looks, that is. He looks like a fun figure, with great articulation and great alt modes, especially the helicopter one. That being said, I have the T30 one, and I simply do not look forward to replacing him. What I want to do instead is wait for the Legacy Sandstorm mold to be reused, either repainted into SG Sandstorm or maybe even a G1-ified Blackout, because I want to own the mold, not two versions of a character, especially when I won’t ever be using the Legacy version of Sandstorm.
What's wrong with owning two a very different versions of the same character? Like even in the comic he is characterized almost completely different from his G1 counterpart. They're almost two different characters.
This is a late comment, but I gotta say I think I came out with one of the far better copies of Legacy Sandstorm. The leg joints are firm, but not difficult to move in any way, and the chest on my copy actually stays on. It doesn’t take too much effort to unplug it, but it doesn’t come unplugged when I’m moving the arms for posing (it might be that the chest pegs on mine are a bit longer, thus allowing for more friction in the plug in ports, I can’t say for certain). Though in regard to the video, the clear winner is definitely the Thrilling 30 one. I still have some pretty good fun with the Legacy copy but, outside of me preferring the faceplate look on the Legacy, the Thrilling 30 is miles better.
I really think the chest on the legacy version is an on purpose defect. Which they'll probably fix on a later variant with a cartoon face. You also transformed yours wrong a few times. And the winch can go under the roll cage behind the engine block. But I agree about the buggy mode. It does take some getting used to. If ever.
I know where the winch is supposed to go, but honestly I don't care enough about that mode. And can anyone really say that it looks a lot better with it stored somewhere else? And you're probably right about them fixing it on a later release.
I'm still trying to get that generations sandstorm to this day. That bitches detecting radar dish bit had me cackling hard. Also it felt so strange hearing a tamed slow-ish speaking version of you from that collab w/ the Dr. 🤣
Good luck, I was fortunate to get mine. I'm so happy to hear that. Yeah, I don't know that I'd call that version tame, but he was insistent on me going slow.
I think that you will prefer the generations figure, but I don't know that you would hate the legacy one. I just wouldn't stake my reputation on you liking it.
As a triple changer in general, i have always prefer sandstorm over Springer. The legacy one is good, i like the robot mode, the helicopter looks clean, and the car mode despite look like being cut in half is "decent". But i just love how robust the generation one is, looks like something out of mad max. If i have one maybe i'll custom the feet with a balljoint (im a sucker for feet articulation)
Still waiting for Octane and my boy Broadside (hope there's going to be a voyager/leader class Broadside instead of the G1 Titan/Combiner sized one) And if there's a voyager/leader Broadside, ig they would also change the naval ship into something else, like a marine tube? Maybe?
@@JazzStopMotion Double Dealer is a solid brick with lot of accessories. I like both modes and his articulation don't bother me cos I won't expect from him poses like Mafex action figures. Got for him leg upgrade and stickers from toyhax. Also I got almost all modern triple changers except Sandstorm (but I take it from a friend).
if there was no contest then what was the point? this felt less like "which is the best" and more "one is good, one is shit" and thats just not a fair comparison
How the FUCK is the generations figure 10 years older, this much BETTER and that much bigger than the version they're DARING to sell for leader price when the OG WAS A GODDAMN VOYAGER. AT VOYAGER PRICE POINT. fucking hasbro.
I have always loved the alt-modes on the T30 sandstorm, and the colors look better in my opinion. While the legacy one will be easier to find, I will with try to hunt down a T30 instead.
@@PerspectiveEnd Funny enough I was looking for a Combiner Wars Ultra Magnus and by chance I found this seller that had a lot of figures for less then half the normal asking rate. Ended up buying 11 figures from them. They still got a few I want, so might buy them before they're gone.
Endy, Endy, Endy. You're ignoring a more important question. When will Legacy Sandstorm be retooled/repainted into Blackout? Why else would he have a little cage if not to for the designers anticipating a future reuse and that he'd need a mini Scorponok? Hmmmmmmmmmm?
Yeah, I found out recently that that was the case. I just thought it was a mass QCR issue so I wasn’t buying any that I kept finding in the stores orstores on online. Until some random seller that looked like he had it with the chest said it’s packaged in the box, didn’t hear it from anybody that was the case
That light piping is the one thing where T30 Sandstorm & Springer both took a fusion cannon shot to the ball bearings; that super light shade of blue just doesn't work, it's almost as egregious as the straight up clear white plastic they used in AoE Evasion Mode Optimus. They really needed something a bit more glorious, like the deep blue they used in Reveal the Shield Jazz. Legacy Sandstorm suffers from MP11 mold chest failure, eh? (Nothing locks into place, move the arms and you WILL move the torso as well) Yeeeaaahhh, that sucks ass. If I can ever find it, though, I may get it anyway; I ran with T30 & Siege Springer (and plan on getting SS86-30 Springer), I sat through the heavily flawed and on the brink of 🐳💩 T30 Blitzwing, missed the TR Blitzwing (I'd rather go Takara there), and sat through the only successful in robot mode Legacy Blitzwing, I think I'll manage with Sandstorm.
As much as I am alone loathed to defend light piping, I do think it makes sense to go for a lighter shade. That means that the light will make it a brighter more easily. Which is kind of the whole point is it not?
Can you not scream for your likes, my mom and dad are sleeping and I don't wanna get the belt and slipper wombo combo. I always wanted the generations version, the legacy is nice but like you said there's the cool one and that looks like it's for nerds. And you know me I dislike what they do with Morden figures by leaving hollow spaces instead of filling them in like Track's legs for example
T30 Sandstorm is almost the perfect modern mecha toy. But he doesn't have a faceplate so I'm not so sure about him. I don't like that the head doesn't have a faceplate, should I still buy this if the Legacy one is the same price? The VTOL gunship looks like my dream aircraft. I love this kind of vehicle so much. The T30's car mode is a repainted Batmobile just like Springer. But it fits Sandstorm more than Springer. Legacy Sandstorm is just extremely cute. He looks like a happy go lucky kid who overprepared for the first day of school. The helicopter is a normal ass helicopter. It's kinda lame compared to everything else. I find some flawed alt modes cute for some reason. And Legacy Sandstorm's car mode is the cutest flawed one I've seen so far.
I always thought Generations Sandstorm looked really cool but I never got around to picking him up as I wasn’t collecting Transformers when he came out. I’m really happy to have a G1 take on the character through the Legacy version since I always loved the Starscream’s Ghost episode as a kid (where’s Octane, Hasbro?) but honestly I kinda wish they had gone full toy-accurate with the head rather than a weird amalgam of toy and cartoon. The designers hinted that we’ll be seeing a fully cartoon accurate head at some point, so I’m especially annoyed that they only went halfway with this first one. It was probably done for the sake of the transformation, but it’s not like the current transformation is so great that it couldn’t have been reworked (they couldn’t have made it that much worse.) And yeah, the chest thing SUCKS.
shame about core class being canned for next year as that size class had some figures (iguanus for me). And damn legacy sandstorm buggy mode makes both of legacy blitzwing look (semi) decent. Also how was your battle with Dr. Lockdown over the space wheeljack
I know you don't watch other RU-vidrs reviews that way you can form your own opinion on the toy, but please let it be known, and I can't stress this enough the chest problem is so universal that every single review I've seen for this figure has the same issue not just some, EVERY SINGLE ONE
Once again it is Perspective to the rescue! I was on the fence about this guy. Maybe thinking I'd pick up the re-release cartoon accurate head or something. But I already have the generations figure, so why bother
I find that the chest popping off isn’t really an issue on my copy of leader class sandstorm, maybe you don’t have the weird neck hinge assembly thingy in the correct position?
I have it just fine. Every other reviewer I know of who's covered this thing has had my issues, along with tons of my fans. I think you just lucked out with your QC, and got one of the only good copies they've ever produced.
Do you know whats really cool? You dont have to live in an Optimus-induced fantasy land to actually drive a sandrail. I'll wait for your video testing out the HotWheels car.
crazy that we never saw an upgrade set for the generations springstorm mold that gave it ankle tilts. its literally the 1 bad thing on that otherwise excellent figure, and 3rdP guys love making sets for everything.
I absolutely hate the new Sandstorm. Leader my ass. Voyager at best. Higher parts count...better engineering? Yeah ok. I spent the same amount on a Neca Mirage Casey Jones the other day and feel like I got more for my money. Hasblow needs to get there shit together
i like how he somehow mistransformed both modes, i can get the buggy mode, that things a bitch to get straight but the wheels on the chopper, cmon man theres dedicated slots and pegs for it, you can see it on the bottom, did you never ask yourself why those were there since they do nothing in robot or buggy mode
Actually they wouldn't go either way, so I transformed it so they were THE MOST FLAT they'd go, cause neither was flat and the other way was worse. Also I wasn't criticizing it for them sticking down, I recognize that as part of the things in general TERRIBLE QC, I was criticizing it for the idea at all, because the are just hanging out in the open, in a really lame way. As for the Buggy, what are you saying I got wrong?
I bought a 3D print for a totally accurate g1 toy head on cults and my god it makes the new guy so much cooler. Also you can shave part of the inside of the arm to give him proper sword weilding wrists that go down by 50 degrees
I agree with the chest thing. I hate that. But I grew up with sandstorms (and broadsides) g1 toy. I’m just so happy I can finally have the chug versions even if broadsides sucks. But there’s a fix to a jet mode soo…
I admit that the Generations Sandstorm looks cool, like a modernized version of him. But I like the classic version from Legacy United. Sure there are some faults, but I find myself more drawn to the G1 design aspect that it captures.
I mean it had a chance, if only it did the articulation better, and the transformations weren't so bad. Also if the buggy mode didn't suck beyond belief.
Definitely Generations. No IDW fan, but the Gen toy just looks better in all three forms to me. There is a place for the Legacy toy, but the T30 one is a strict improvement in form.
I don't get the Core Class joke. Can someone explain? Dear god I'm glad I never bought this figure. I love Transformers with more than two modes but I passed on Sandstorm for I think Missing Link Optimus.
According to leaks, they are canceling core class at the end of legacy united. There won't be any more after that. Missing link Optimus will probably make you way happier.
I have to admit that I think the generations one’s VTOL still looks better than the legacy helicopter. The generation’s gun clips in under the cockpit and has molded landing gear on it. Apart from his pose-ability, the biggest downside to thrilling 30 is his absolute joke of a spring loaded firing gimmick. If you’ve ever seen the video of soldiers firing a missile launcher only for the missile to slide out and drop in front of them… that goes further than Sandstorm’s.
@@PerspectiveEnd I agree but knowing hasbro they will probably release another one as a repaint or something. But what we really need is more beast wars figures they just like stoped making them I feel like
Check and a half for the accuracy of the old figure, and a check for the articulation. Check for the Accuracy of the new figure to a different version of the character, Check plus for both the Transformations, Check plus for car mode, check for the Helicopter mode.
say, if core class is dead what are deluxes then? I mean how can something be deluxe if there's nothing below that? Anyway, It' just looks awful how little better, if not much worse, the new Sandstorm seems. I guess Hasbro scribbled out the word "shame" in their dictionaries.
I mean I think that's kind of how it used to work. They definitely don't feel shame, but I don't know if that's just cause they pretend the word doesn't exist.
@@PerspectiveEnd I mean I think there was a long time between the start of the unicorn trilogy and maybe Revenge of the Fallen where there was either no basic or it was just MiniCons. Still feels weird there.
It is possible to make the chest piece stay in place. I don't fully understand it, but literally lining up the front and the backpack, and a little bit of luck in pressing the chest in for a few minutes should do the trick.
@@PerspectiveEnd well I can at least coinfirm it's true because it at least worked on my copy. There's a TFW2005 thread that covers it more closely. lots of fiddling and stuff so that's totally fair.
hm. this is first perspective video i outright disagree with. yeah the legacy's chest was annoying at first, but after a bit of messing around and customizing its tabs in just fine, and I love the other two modes a ton, and the process' to get there. yeah the knees are a smidge disappointing but if you go in with an x-acto knife and cuf off some plastic it gets a nice 90. I love him so much and I will absolutely die on this hill
that’s fair, but at the same time I could feel a great figure hiding beneath all those problems, begging to come out, and I was right, with those modifications he’s know my favorite triple changer! (I only own this guy and legacy blitzwing, and blitzwing’s still my favorite character-wise)
i actually very much love both of these and want both of these. i dont really care for whatever accuracy they go by they look very cool. but menasor said NO btw love the video of you and dr lockdown and your reasoning with the figure
@@PerspectiveEnd ive been on a quest to get all components to legacy menasor (and smol-canicus)and with one of the lowest ranking valuable currency in the world thats gonna be PAIN and i already have 2/5
I managed to pick up him and tiger hawk at the same time for that price, I think they were trying to sell the evolution leaders but someone put those guys out early
They are both terrific. After I bought the newest Sandstorm I had horrible thought that Hasbro is going to redo the head into cartoon accurate. . . . which I love cartoon. . .
To be honest I was hopping you would have loved the legacy sandstorm like I do but I respect your opinion and agree with the criticism but I will not stop loving it for now
I don't want you to stop loving it. I never want to convince you to not like something you already enjoy. I just want to warn you what I think may or may not be worth your money. But if you already have it, and you already like it, then keep on doing that.
I honestly do agree with you and I respect what you said. I am pretty blindsided with this figure because sandstorm and octane are my favourite triple changes. Do you also have the legacy gears I would love to know your opinion on it because I love it with everything I have in me I have it with me always when I’m just sitting alone in my room I just love it and I hope you love it too
I only started collecting Transformers a year ago but generations sandstorm is what got me back one of my first figures all the way back so happy to see that other people like him and it’s not a biased I was considering getting the legacy one tho but that chest thing seems pretty bad is there anything you can do to fix that if not I’ll probably skip him
Man that's so lucky! What made you pick that up if you only got in a year ago, cause 1 he's dumb rare, and 2 not a lot of people talk about him in comparison with springer.
@@PerspectiveEnd oh I had him luckily before he was rare sorry I could have clarified that better I mean I found him In storage and I fiddled with him making me come back to transformers only problem is I got him when I was young so bits of him broke off but I don’t mind too much
If you've seen the back kibble podcast perspective explains that negativity is the first thing that comes to mind in something like "oh this is great this part sucks, this part sucks, this part sucks and this part sucks"
G1 for me. It fits in with other chug figures. The generations is too IDW to fit in with my updated chug shelf. Same with Springer. Seige replaced my Thrilling 30 version.
