I really appreciate this griddle comparison. I currently own (for around 5 years) a Blackstone 36" griddle with the rear grease trap and the surround shelf accessory. While I have been very happy with it, it is time to pass it on and downsize my griddle. I would like to say, that while griddles are a great tool to have and many things can be prepared on them, they are not an acceptable replacement/substitute for a grill. Gas or charcoal. There are some things that just require a grill.

Awesome review. I have been a Blackstone user for 4 years and absolutely love it. I recommend a griddle everybody due to the variety of things that you can cook. I do have a 26” charcoal Weber for the times when I want to smoke meat. During those 4 years, my Weber gas grill simply rotted away. Buy what you can afford with the features you want. Nicely done.

One area that you didn't look at: some of the lids can be closed while griddling and some you cannot. The ones that can, like the Halo would be an advantage. Also, some of the griddles cannot maintain low temperatures for the things like eggs which need about 300 degrees.

Great video and amazing job doing all the work to get this done! I've had a 36 inch Blackstone (plain Jane model) for a few years and absolutely love it but have seen several RU-vid griddlers out here getting sponsored to prop up the Pit Boss Ultimate. I admit it intrigued me but the more research I've done on it the more its confirmed my worries about the longevity of the ceramic coating. Not that anyone asked, but the thing that kills me about the Traeger (aside from the price) is the handle cut outs on the side. I saw you use Meat Church seasonings, as do I, and I've watched Matt on his channel cook on the Flatrock and rake food through the handle cut outs time and time again. The Weber really surprised me in this shootout, as did the Camp Chef. Again great job and thank you so much for all the work you put into this! This is the first video I've watched of yours and I'm now a subscriber!

I have a 17 inch blackstone tabletop griddle and that thing literally wont cook with any sort of breeze. With the huge gap between the plate and burner, the wind kills a lot of heat transfer. So having a wind test with sustained wind was a fantastic idea.

Nice comparison video. I own two models of Blackstone and have enjoyed both of them. That Grilla Grill is very attractive and if I had to do it all again I'd have to take a closer look at that. I tend to use my indoor flat top most mornings just because I don't have to travel outside to cook breakfast but it has a feature similar to the PitBoss with a coated griddle top. Ive found that no matter what the surface coating is, it is eventually going to fail so I'd rule that feature out from the start and stick with the plain steel of most of the other versions.

I just got rid of our 36" Blackstone with air fryers (used those twice in 2 years) in favor of the Weber 36". I don't ever fold the shelves down so that wasnt a concern. Of note, the Weber gets way hotter (if the black stone was on high for something like smashburgers, the Weber is on medium). The side trays and lid stay much cooler on the Weber which was a nice surprise. Happy so far.

Greatest Review of grills I've seen.I have the Grilla Grills Primate with the 2/3 griddle as well. This grill has two shelves underneath for items you need while cooking. Also, has a towel and paper towel rack along with 4 tool hangers. I would have liked to see you choose the 36 inch regular Blackstone to compare instead. I choose the Primate as it is 3 Grills in one.

In the name of science, I did a bit of math. Since these were technically the same category, I was curious the BTU/in^2 surface area. The Loco had the smallest at 62 BTU/in^2, and the Grilla Grills had double that at 122 BTU/in^2. I have a hard time believing the Grilla Grills BTU number, as that kind of output should have made it the fastest to temp (assuming the same thickness of griddle top). The Camp Chef had the highest believable number at 79.5, but was the slowest to heat up. I think the Pit Boss heating up the fastest had to do with the enameled top, considering it has 67 BTU/in^2. which was about average. What I found interesting was that your two recommended "winners" (Weber and Traeger) were the two with the most even toast results, above average BTU/in^2, but neither heated up the fastest. I think they have thicker griddle tops that help spread out the heat more evenly, but have high enough BTU to not have to wait as long. And the Traeger is more of a 6 burner (3 zones) due to the spread out burner design. That's definitely going to make them the most consistent to cook with.
@ChaserTiponi

Now that was in depth man. I bought a 297 dollar Blackstone at WalMart and having a blast on it. Had it about a month. Cooking breakfast for half dozen people means meat is on with pancakes or bread or potatoes then when all that is done and plated clear the grease and cook the eggs in just a couple minutes. Its hard to imagine a griddle so perfect you could do all that at once! For 3 adults and my 4 Grandkids. Need a bit of food for that Brady Bunch😜

I have the Traeger Flat Rock, and I personally suggest using a separate propane gauge. The concept of the lights showing you the levels is awesome and I really enjoyed it, until I didn't... The lights were showing me just under half a tank used when I started up some french toast, just to have the burners turn off minutes in, leaving me to scramble my way into the kitchen to finish the cook. A second thing about the light I noticed is that it is EXCEPTIONALLY BRIGHT! It is awkwardly blinding from the corner of the eye. But other then the light I fully agree with your choice of the Traeger being overall. Great video!

FYI: I just picked up a Blackstone base model at Costco for $350. I researched ahead of time and realized without the recessed griddle, it wouldn't handle windy conditions like some of the others, but for the price, I got the same 4-burner set up as on the model you tested. Fold down shelves on each side and a speed rail on the front to hold all of your sauces and squeeze bottles. It also has two magnetic utensil holders, one on each side. No problems getting it to season and it was basically no-stick from the first use. I already had a mini Blackstone so I had familiarity with seasoning the griddle surface. But it's twice the size of my portable but less than twice the price. So ... there is a quality budget option out there.
@justorganizemylife

Thanks for the comprehensive comparison. I'm curious about why you chose the Blackstone with the air fryers in this comparison instead of a more comparable model to the others. We own an Adventure Ready Blackstone with a huge air fryer. Its been a game changer for us, and now we would like to purchase one for everday use at home. This info was very helpful and gave us food for thought. Thanks!

Awesome review! I use the Pit Boss 5 burner ultimate griddle. I have well over 300 cooks. I would add don't buy the Pit Boss for the ceramic coating because it will eventually wear off as mine did. On the plus side, Pit Boss is very good with their warranty. They are sending me a new top but they seem to have supply chain issues as it has taken over 3 months for them to finally send the new one.

1 great video. I normally can't get past 6 - 8 minutes in one. I know the Recteq Smokestone wasn't out when you did this comparison, but I'd love to see your take on it. Great job!

Victory Griddle from BBQ Guys is fantastic - all stainless, great looking, great quality, excellent even cooking and it's a metal-safe non-stick.

Great review! I changed from a grill to griddle about 5 years ago and never looked back. Mine is a Blackstone and I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned Though I'm not sure I'd buy one again if it wore out.

Fantastic informative video. Got question. I now use Grill Grates and love the grilling marks. Can I use them on a flat top when cooking STEAKS.

The HALO is convertible to NG with a conversion kit. Also, you can cook with the lid closed which is a huge advantage.

I am considering the loco griddle and you did not scare me away so I think I am going to get it. I like the difference of the loco vs all the others

Great review. Very comprehensive with the most needed information. One thing I find as a relative newcomer to griddling is that most reviews pay a lot of attention to "Evenness" of the cook surface. I understand that under a few circumstances, that might be practical, I find that I rarely cook where I want the same temperature over the whole griddle. I suppose if I was cooking 20 smashburgers, that would be a good thing. But usually, I want hotter and cooler spots for cooking different foods and to park food and keep it warm. I think with experience anyone could learn their particular cook surface and use uneven heating to their advantage. I have a Blackstone and it is indeed hotter in the middle. But I am happy to have the cooler edges to park things, toast bread, cook eggs, etc. Great review!

With all due respect. That makes no sense. You want a completely even cooking surface. Then you can turn some burners up, and others down. Hot spots are ALWAYS a negative that we learn to deal with

Great vid. My only critique is the particular Blackstone rated here was an unfair comparison. Thanks for making me feel good about my purchase of the Traeger Flattop.

I love my 36 inch Blackstone, but I'll admit some of the others are intriguing..especially the Loco

Best budget is Weber 36" steal for the price Grill la grill primeate best griddle/grill combo Loco 36" most innovative, exact temp Blackstone 36" with air fryers is the best high end griddle. All you want, and more. Backyard kitchen in one package. Traeger flatrock best overall. Wind resistant, lots of space.

Watched your video and bought a Grilla Grill a few hours later. I wasn’t even aware of the grill before watching this video. The 2 in 1 is a big selling point, being able to do 2/3 griddle and 1/3 grill is great, the wind test was great.. thanks for the video.

Hi mate. Love the video. Im currently stuck between a couple griddles. One is beefmaster with a 4mm thick solid steel plate, the other is char griller flat iron Premium with a cast iron plate. What would you recommend out of those two ?

I use a 24x17 cast iron griddle on my gas grill. Way cheaper than another appliance and works great.

Can you review after market griddles that can be placed on top of a gas grill? I have a spare gas grill and would like to get a griddle top for it. Also need to compliment you on the quality of your content and your video production. The quality of each continues to increase with each new video of yours that I see.

Thank you again for your videos. Do you have any infortion or video coming soon regarding the new Weber Slate that is coming out soon. I have watched a few videos talking about not rusting and do not need to season. I have not yet purchased a griddle yet, waiting to see what is coming up next. Appreciate any information or advice you can share. Thanks!

Can’t believe how fancy these have gotten. I bought a 28” Blackstone 5 years ago. Works great and I love it. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The fancier the features, the more stuff that can break.
