I need to start compiling a list... It took him 31 seconds to mention Incineroar in a video about Incineroar... So it only took 3x as long for him to mention Incineroar in a video Incineroar shouldn't be in as it did for him to mention it in a video about it. Interesting.
4:13 I love that the thick club doubling Marowaks attack implies that before you gave it the item it was just fighting bare handed which is why it’s normally so weak
Do we count Togetic/Togekiss? Probably not. Then Azumarill, Umbreon, Murkrow, Scizor, Tyranitar, Porygon 2, Smeargle, Hitmontop, Lugia, and Entei are the only viable pokemon from that gen. Exactly 10, guess all we need to know is what order they're in.
Casuals and VGC players alike are confused by the thumbnail. Casuals are wondering why an unevolved mon with less than a 400 BST is number one. VGC players wonder why Mewtwo is legally allowed within 50 feet of the podium. Both absolutely agree with Charizard being there though.
Is this even a question? we all know that venomoth is the strongest pokemon ever made with a base hp, atk, def, sp.atk, sp.def and spe of a venomillion
Unironically quiver dance is such a broken move it's made like half a dozen different bug types viable in some format or another. Tinted lens means you only need one attacking move to hit most things for neutral, so an awful offensive typing doesn't matter nearly as much and you can dedicate the second attack slot to rage powder, roost, tailwind, toxic, etc. It's stats still suck tho lol
@@Mngalahadyou can immediately tell how passionate the person making the video is as soon as they start talking and , to me, that makes all the difference whether or not I will watch and listen to the video
I think one major thing missing is Honorable Mentions for this video. I had a few Pokémon in mind for this video that weren’t mentioned and I figured it would’ve been nice to have seen them get a shoutout. Fun video overall though!
I picture you sitting on a chair in a featureless room for years just checking youtube every time you get a wolfey notification. This time, maybe this time he'll say arcaneenay....
I know Wolfey predominantly focuses on the doubles/VGC format, but, especially for singles, I think Ninetales deserves a mention. The utility it provided setting up sun or hail, depending on its form, cannot be overstated. The youngsters may not know this, but Gen 5 was essentially a weather war- ninetales being the only sun setter (besides Groudon) yes, maybe it’s outclassed by Torkoal in the current meta, but I would definitely consider it one of the most influential Gen 1 Pokémon in competitive history. Don’t even get me started on how much of a facilitator Aurora Veil Alolan ninetales was//is
@@leftistdegeneratejs ninetales' ranking is indicative of sun's place in the metagame there have been points where sun has been very broken At the start of bw2 it had access to Genesect, Dugtrio, and Chlorophyll. All three have since been banned, leaving sun close to completely unviable.
I think Mega Kengaskon was the first time I started looking more into competitive. It sounded so funny for them to be strong and when I learned why, it just sounded like an INSANE balancing move
This was such a great list! But I’m a bit surprised there wasn’t an honorable mentions section for Butterfree, Raichu, Ninetales, Golduck, Weezing, Taurus, Lapras, Ditto, Articuno, and Dragonite. They’ve definitely all had formats they’ve either shined in or had niche roles in. But I def agree with your top 10 picks!
You’re low key mad funny. Just the part where you said “good luck knocking out mega Venasaur bud” with the picture of the little kid crying had me in tears 😂😂😂😂
scizor and… typhlosion was alright i think and… maybe like suicune or lugia early on? theres your list of the top 10 best johto pokemon. edit: theres also some more like forretress and gligar who were pretty good early on im pretty sure and uh… murkrow… is a thing so it could still be an interesting vid…
@@aydenator2770 i think all three legendary dogs probably would make the list, also ttar smeargle azumarill porygon2 hitmontop blissey. gen 2 got some sleepers for sure
@@minimunch7 yeah, tbh i find it very hard to remember which pokemon are gen 2 because so many of them got new evolutions in later gens… and most of the ones that didnt are pretty forgettable… i totally forgot ttar was gen 2 also
@@rudranshsharma6639 makes sense. I don’t play competitively that much nor am I very good, but it feels like I’ve seen it a lot over the years. Maybe it’s just a matter of popularity as opposed to viability
I hope not. Do you realise how broken the new mons would have to be? So many mons would be unusable. Why even have half the pokedex if only quarter, if barely, would be viable
Banger vid again, you have a great ability to explain why certain Pokémon perform so well, same with in your tournament videos. Loving all your content man, and the frequency of your uploads is awesome too, you must be working hard.
Ma boy Sceptile deserves some more love, I guess i'll take my third favorite being competitive pokemon players PTSD (Haha funny intimidate cat go brrrr)
Arcanine might just be the most perfect pokemon ever. Not only because of its super clean design, but also from a competitive standpoint. Imo, Arcanine has always felt incredibly good, but never completely broken. He's riding that thin line where it's just perfect.
@@sktima In VGC, using your mega slot on a box legendary was a huge commitment, and even in VGC 2016 and 2019, teams more frequently got more value out of megas like Kangaskhan and Salamence while also having two box legendaries. Rayquaza was still excellent, but not indisputably the best, though it did end up winning 2016 Worlds. Didn't make the finals in 2019, though. Across the five formats they've been legal, the best mega is probably Salamence.
Would be cool to see this for every region so far, then a video putting the number 1 from each region against each other. Of course Incineroar would probably win, but I still think it would be a fun and interesting video!
Love any mention of Mega Kangaskhan! I was really passionate about VGC in Gen 6, and as somebody who will always uphold 2014 as the best VGC format, Mega Kangaskhan's supremacy, and the way the format revolved around it and countered it, is something really interesting to me. A format which somehow had perhaps the biggest gap between its best Pokémon and the runner-up, yet ended up having such varied teams because everybody knew that and played for it is such a showcase of how metagames develop
What do you mean? Dragonite sucked in every single format that wasn't SV and was totally outclassed by Mega Salamence and Mega Rayquaza whom have the exact same typing
You need to remember that Wolfey only covers doubles when he says best ever. By totally ignoring singles format, he's free to leave out contenders like Dragonite and Heracross (from his recent best bug types video)
I generally enjoy the format of all your videos, but I especially like the scripting of this one, as well as What Is The Best Bug Type Pokemon Competitively! The delivery almost feels off the cuff, like analysis in real time sort of. Keep up the good work, everyone!
Best of Jhoto pokemon: Tyranitar Scizor Murkrow Azumarill Poiltoed Raikuo Entei Suicune Porygon 2 Hitmontop Damn i barely even got 10, with three legendaries
@@snakexpert552 yeah you're right... but most of the other pokemon here have never seen usage stats near what murkrow saw before tornadus came out in SV But idk what to move, probably raikuo
Wolfey is the very best, like no one ever was! In VGC he wins them all, from Players Cup to Worlds! He has fans across the land, cheering by his side! Use Wolfey Blast to understand the power that’s inside!! WOLFEY GLICK! USE WOLFEY BLAST! (The best is he) HE WINS ALL THE VGC! WOLFEY BLAST! (Ooh we are the fans) OF THE BEST WIDEO MAN! WOLFEY GLICK! USE WOLFEY BLAST! (A trainer so true) HAS WIDEOS ON RU-vid! HAS THE WORLD CHAMP DIFFERENCE TOO! WOLFEY GLICK! USE WOLFEY BLAST (Use Wolfey blast) WOLFEY GLICK!
I run a stalling Espathra which switches into Mewtwo on Smogon Singles. I get loads of KOs. (P.S. I love that the Mewtwo in the thumbnail was SHINY! Radioactive Mewtwo is the best!) Update: NOOO HE REMOVED THE SHINY
I feel like I’m a pretty realistic person. I knew Mewtwo would not be on this list that did not surprise me, but not having Dragonite on here is criminal.
It only started to get decent with dual wingbeat, and only got decent play with tera normal. It can't carry tera anymore, since there are much better candidates in reg e, f and g. It has a good ability, especially with roost in its moveset to reset it, but that isn't enough to push it over the edge into being one of the top 10. It lacks utility and stats.
Marowak's effective base attack (if optimized) with the thick club is 209 if anyone is wondering. For reference, the highest attack ever belongs go Mega Mewtwo X with 190.
It's kind of funny how I have never been into playing competitive Pokémon myself, but somehow I learned about mega kangaskhan being op from somewhere. I played and won couple online matches with them back in the day. One of the only mons I ever EV trained if I remember correctly.
My fave Kanto team would be Venusaur Flareon Dragonite Nidoking Marowak Machamp Johto (pretty sure I spelled it wrong) Feraligator Umbreon Amparos Noctowl Tyranitar Sneasel
Random thought. Idk if it exists but, I think an ability like “Intervene” would be cool. A hit that would OHKO/maybe even just KO one of your pokemon, gets “Intervened” by your other Pokémon’s ability. Causing the “Intervene” Pokemon to take whatever the total damage was, regardless of type, but the one that gets saved takes no damage. Can only happen once, unless swapped out, then back in. Like Intimidate.
This was a very fun kind of video that I don't I've ever seen before. I won't lie though: I was kinda expecting Dragonite to be on this list because of things like Multiscale and Tera Normal E-Speed but you still did well!
Great video as always and I agree with your list 100% Can we get a video where you mention all the Pokemon you have funny names for? Arcaneenay, Jenjar etc 😆
