Great video Just ordered a BX23s. Arrives in early October. Will be getting the ripper as well as thumb attachment. So useful for stumps and picking up logs and brush Also looking at 3pt 22 ton log splitter I’m amazed at the capability of this small tractor The fun begins! Cheers!

I have a BX24 and with an 800' driveway and Michigan winters, my favorite is the front mount snow blower. It attaches as a mod mount device so it is up front where I can see where I am going. A blade piles snow on each side until you have too much. The two stage blower puts it 50' away, nice. Thanks for great video.

Right on, I wish my driveway pavement wasn't so heaved so I could get one of those. I have a 24" ariens I use instead most of the time because it is skinny and doesnt crown my driveway.

Hi Kevin great video. Just a suggestion from regenerative agriculture: avoid tilling after your first one, it causes the soil to release its nutrients to the air and brings more weed seeds to the air to germinate. Look into "chop and drop" crops to mulch into the rows, which will build nutrients and stop weeds. Then in between seasons, sow a cover crop to fix nitrogen for the next growing season.
@LukyNumbrKevin
@LukyNumbrKevin 3 года назад
Great tip! Yea aside from the first year we have not tilled the beds, I understand the importance of soil composition and have only tilled when adding in new manure. I think I’m doing it right??…
@stephan24297
@stephan24297 2 года назад
@@LukyNumbrKevin depends on your tolerance or whatever but the more you fill the more nutrients you need to buy (fertilizer). Woodchips work well on perennials or use something like grass clippings on annuals. Keep the ground covered or nature will do it for you(weeds) or worse it will become dust and not able to absorb water anymore. Weeds also are indicators of the soil health and status btw.

Great video mate. I have have the wicked root grapple 55" on my 23s and it's extremely useful. Cleared an ache of horrid spike 7' high broom with it recently.

I noticed at the end you use your heel for reverse. Try using your toe under the forward pedal and pulling up. I’ve found it to be easier unless you are backing up long distances then I go to the heel.

Thanks for the tip, I tried it a bit today and I don't think it is for me. Plus the top of my boot isn't as protected as the bottom and it was scratching up the leather a bit.

Hi Kevin,,nice video,,very to the point and informative,,im getting ready to buy a tractor package with a backhoe but am concerned the small tractors 24hp and under may not be strong enough but after seeing this video im convinced the compact tractors will work as i will be using it for many of the same jobs you showed in this video,,am thinking of digging a 3-4 ft deep little pond at rear of property,,thought i would need a small excavator but i think with a little extra effort i could use backhoe,,next thing is what brand do i buy,,Kubota is popular here and has some good financing,,TYM also offer good finance deals and is cheaper than kubota,,john deere is notmy favorite as they overcharge for attachments,,Yanmar is a possibilty,,how long have you owned the kubota??Any issues ,,any suggestions would be appreciated
@LukyNumbrKevin
@LukyNumbrKevin 2 года назад
Well First off I would say it is all about how much time you have, you can definitely get that job done with a BX23s but it won’t be quick. Second, Kubota and TYM are not on the same level in my opinion. Kubota and JD are top tier in terms of quality and engineering, yanmar not far behind. I know Kubotas are made in Japan and Germany and TYMs are made in South Korea. So take that for what it’s worth. I would love a yanmar excavator. Definitely on the list a decade from now.

Just wait till you get it plumbed for a third function valve. Grappel, 4 in 1 bucket, pallet forks with side shift. Then you want remotes in the rear, you can shorten or lengthen your top link for more or less bite and you can even put a hydraulic cylinder to control the angle. Never have to leave the seat after that.

Just got my BX23S. Was wondering if I should go with the factory thumb by Kubota or a BXpanded barracuda thumb. Any insight on which one might be better. Thanks mate
@LukyNumbrKevin
@LukyNumbrKevin 3 года назад
As long as you have the tabs on your dipper to install the stock thumb I would go Stock. it is such a clearing install with better geometry and less chance for failiure. But I have no experience with the Barracuda only the stock Kubota Thumb that I bought with the tractor.

what is the model number, and where did you get the Backhoe Backup for the Bx23s tractor?
@LukyNumbrKevin
@LukyNumbrKevin 3 года назад
The tractor is a BX23s and it comes with the BT603 backhoe stock. If you have a B series tractor you cannot upgrade to this back-hoe with out going through substantial sub-frame additions to the tractors. It is cheaper/easier in my opinion to trade the tractor in and get the proper one from the factory rather than upgrade.

I’ve been wanting a bx23s for a while. I have just over 2 acres of land to mow. I also have about 8 acres of woods that need to be cleaned up. The property was my dads, he passes a year ago. I’ll be moving there soon. Think this tractor will work well for me? Recommend any specific setup? I also have some drainage things to take care of as well. Great video by the way. Keep up the good work.
@LukyNumbrKevin
@LukyNumbrKevin 4 года назад
If your just cleaning up the 8 acres and not clearing and grubbing the stumps then the BX23s will do just fine. She can rip stumps just find it just takes to long due to the need to completely dig up the big ones. Some can take 8 hours to pop. So if you are just mowing and cleaning up the woods it will do great. This is a perfect homesteader tractor, as long as you have the time you can get anything done!

I've been looking at the quick-release for the bucket for my BX23S. Do you find that it weakens the power of the bucket hydraulics at all? It's not an insignificant increase in the length of the lever arm the hydraulics are working against.
@LukyNumbrKevin
@LukyNumbrKevin 4 года назад
Talking about the backhoe right? Nah I don’t notice any reduction in power.
@TadMarko
@TadMarko 4 года назад
@@LukyNumbrKevin right. I'd like their ripper and trench buckets, and it doesn't take much imagination to see how changing them more than very infrequently would be annoying. I was just concerned about weakening the digging force. Actually, a few more inches of reach might also be nice.

Hey Kevin. Nice video. Have you had any issues with the quick coupler on the bucket. Mine has leaked sense I got it. Had it worked on, and some fittings were replaced, but still leaked a little. Went out tonight to move some dirt and it’s gushing all over. Did you have a need to replace the manifold ?
@LukyNumbrKevin
@LukyNumbrKevin 4 года назад
Yea, my quick coupler leaks but it is so slow that I am hesitant to get it repaired until others have confirmed that the fix Kubota came up with is working properly. I can do a short video about it in the future if you would like. Let me know. Thanks for watching!

Hi, is that a 16” backhoe bucket? How does the backhoe handle it? Does the thumb line up between the teeth?
@LukyNumbrKevin
@LukyNumbrKevin 4 года назад
Yes it is, it is the stock 16” bucket that comes with the 23s. And yes the Kubota thumb lines up with the stock bucket perfectly, even with the Bxpanded quick attach that adds a bit. Appreciate the comment, thanks for watching!

Do you have to take the backhoe off to use the mower deck? How much of a pain in the butt is it to take the backhoe off?
@LukyNumbrKevin
@LukyNumbrKevin 4 года назад
You can use the mower deck with the back hoe and front end loader (FEL) on but the tractor is heavier, better for the lawn to take them off. Check out some of my earlier videos I have one showing how easy it is to take off the FEL and Back-Hoe.

Looking at one the Kubota BX23s. Wondering if you run into the ag tires tearing up your yard while mowing? Do you recommend turf or ag?
