I consider Mario party DS apart of the main series the only thing is that it doesn’t have a number in the title. The game has a good story mode, party mode and other good game modes that are standard for Mario party along with other new modes seen for the first time.
Yea i agree with this comment. Its kinda silly to consider it a "spin-off" when it literally has the same general gameplay as any mario party, the only difference is that its handheld. Island Tour, Advance, and Star Road? Those are spin-offs.
I'm sorry, but did you really say that Mario Party 3 didn't really innovate? I can think of plenty just off the top of my head: 1) Unlike in MP2, all or nearly all of the mini-games were unique/ not borrowed from the previous title(s) 2) The ability to have not one, but three items,, that can be carried at a time (a series staple since MP3) 3) The ability to skip CPU mini-games (a huge relief since this was not an option in previous games) 4) Multiple different item and duel mini-games, unlike previously where only one of each existed for the maps 5) Game Guy- the chance to double, quadruple or multiply your coins by a factor of 10... or lose everything! 6) So many unique items- reverse shroom, poison shroom, cellular shopper, Bowser phone, rare items like the wacky watch, barter box, etc.. many of which would never be seen again. 7) A story mode with a little adventure through the game's maps (though I do agree that duel maps were not the best) 8) WALUIGI!!!! ... oh and Daisy as well, but, who cares about her I can go on, but all in all, MP3 improved upon MP2's foundation and added so many additional layers to it. Criticize it for other things (maybe some mini-games aren't well-crafted and some boards not as fun) but innovation is definitely not lacking here.
I agree, MP3 is great, definitely one of the more fleshed out Mario Parties, the items are actually insane, plus the crazy rare items like the wacky watch leads to very strategic and intense games.
I agree that Island Tour/Top 100/etc. shouldn't count as mainstream games, but DS? That one had all the concepts of the numbered games, and was absolutely S tier worthy imo. Other than that, solid list though
I agree, and initially, I had it on my list but then objectively it's like a "where does it end" situation. Like if I include DS then some could justify Advance using the same logic and so on and so forth. So I just said screw it, easier to not include it hahah. For the record, it would be between 7 and 8. I love DS, it's great
I just got Mario Party DS in the mail last week and i would 100% include it in the main line!!! It plays exactly as if it was made along side the GameCube games. The story is really fun/cute, the mini games are TOP TIER!!! and there's a lot of side modes/things to do and you can play with friends even if they don't have the game cartridges! I got/played MP6 for the first time last month and im sad to say i was kinda underwhelmed. The only games I had played before that was 4 & 5 for GameCube and so many people said that 6 is by far the best one but only 1 or 2 of the boards have regular rules and the other 3 have gimmicks. I absolutely dispise the chain chomp one so much that im probably not going to play it again so that means there's one less board to choose from ;.;! Same with the Bowser/DK boards 'cause they're a bit tooooo stressful for me so really we're only left with like 2 boards xD! And the DS game had some unique Star/Boards as well but they weren't stressful, just different. Either way, i WISH they included the OPTION to have regular party rules applied ;___;!! Would have deffos enjoyed 6 a lot more, again maybe not since i don't really like many of the mini games in it either ;O;! Anyway, I've got #7 on the way soon and i hope i enjoy that one more! X
You should try Mario Party DS. I think it would really go on the 50 turn game. Its theme is so captivating, and how it's boards and minigames use it is really well made. This game uses the orbs item system and the boards are really unique. Im sure you'd like it.
They're some aspects from the Original Mario Party I want to see come back in future Mario Party games and that Character theme boards especially from the playable characters. Like we've only seen like possibly 7 character theme boards that were tied to the playable Character ones which includes Waluigi's but none for Daisy. I think it would be cool to get a refresh on Character theme boards as well as new idea one for like a Daisy, Birdo, Diddy Kong and even Rosalina theme boards. Mario Party 1 was also the only title in the series where the title screen would change depending on what Character won the recent game, which I also want to see return. There's also the special block dice from Mario Party 1 which I don't recall if they ever bought them back but MP1 had the Blue, Red, Orange and Green Dice Blocks which they would all randomly appear. The Red and Blue ones depending on the dice roll you have you would either receive or loss coins depending on that dice roll. The Green one was a speed dice I think it would give a guarantee 8-10 roll. Orange i belive was the slow dice one which would guarantee a 1-3 roll. The funny thing is with these dices you were able to enable or disable the blocks which would change how you play the boards. I think bringing back the receive or losing coin blocks would be a interesting idea but not as items but something that comes randomly while playing on the boards. I have a bit of a soft spot for the Original Mario Party game because I've own the game my whole life and I still have it to this day.
MY tier list would have 6 7 and 8 at SS+ tier ( i put 8 there because it was one of my first video games so yeah i might be buyest here) a tier would have 2 and 5 b tier woud have been 4 and 3 and finally the garbage tier is correct 10 and super are at best mediocre and 9 is just total garbage
I'm curious what makes 6 far and away better than the others, I think a lot of the minigames are actually not that great. Check out Mushroom Fortress's reviews of the minigames ru-vid.com/show-UCCq3qRWfUBal21FXPOqJ2vw. It's also interesting to me that Mario Party 1-5 are all less than 5-8, except for 2.
