It’s possible that with the upcoming loz set, they might think of shrek’s swamp as looking a bit too similar so that could be why they haven’t approved shrek yet.
I want LEGO spirited away, Shrek, Hello Kitty, the Grinch, my neighbor Totoro, rocky reef restoration, finding Nemo, Scooby doo, or the reptiles. But knowing lego they’re probably gonna choose the ones we don’t want
The one I'd probably want is Shrek even though I'm not a fan of RU-vidrs using their fanbase to win contests. This is why Jang said he'd never submit something to Lego Ideas because he'd easily get 10,000 votes and I respect him for that. I'd love Totoro but like you said Ghibli seems very particular about how their IPs are used. I'm a big Laurel and Hardy fan but I feel like I'd prefer a small $30-40 diorama set of them with the piano box or some other iconic scene and Lego just doesn't really go for small sets like that with Ideas anymore. After Fortnite and the new Netflix show, I think Avatar might have a chance of getting made
Honestly I think Hello Kitty has a good chance. It’s definitely popular enough! Only thing is idk if Sanrio would give the license to LEGO. But hey, they allowed the Animal Crossing collab a few years back so hopefully they’d allow a LEGO collab too!
Making a list for fututre reference for myself. Willing to bet LEGO will make: The Art of Japan Builds I want but LEGO will definitely not make: Portal Gun My Neighbor Totoro Shrek's Swamp Greek Holiday Other favorites and possible winners: Reptiles The Highland Cow Interstellar
Honestly my number one pick here would be Hello Kitty. I love Ash’s Shrek project but if Shrek 5 is going to be a thing, then LEGO might make sets for that. I don’t see any other way we could get Hello Kitty sets so because of that I’d love to see it. Hopefully they could turn it into just a Sanrio set so we could get some other Sanrio properties represented as well.
I am begging Lego for more historical sets 🙏 because architecture isn't minfig scale The last time they did Ancient Egypt sets was over 10 years ago apart from that Indiana Jones one
This looks like a very competitive review here. If I got to choose which ones to make into official sets, I'd go with the Shrek Swamp and Appa the Sky Bison. Though the BoonNook Story Laboratory one looks interesting too, I can see that becoming a potential theme.
I think with the lego set of that tree from LoZ seemingly on the horizon, lego might be hesitant to approve any Shrek projects for lego ideas. At least the ones of Shrek’s swamp.
They most recently chose a steamboat and a minifigure gum ball machine..any sets here similar to those will probably be chosen. Don’t expect Licensed sets.
Unfortunately, part of the agreement with Nickelodeon is that Lego can only use their ip in video games like Avatar while Snap an Switch can still make the building sets so I don't think it's possible.
there's probably a good chance we'll not be getting the Gundam. It'd be too much of a conflict of interest since Bandai, one of the main owners of the I.P, makes a lot of their money from selling buildable models of these mecha, albeit nothing brick or building block related. Unless Bandai thinks this set won't compete with Gunpla sales, I don't see lego gundam happening
Mega bloks had the gundam liscense several years ago and I feel like the gunpla kits were still being made back then, so no, it wouldn’t be seen as competition I don’t think
I know it’s probably never happening, but… that Outer Wilds idea becoming a set would make my life complete fr. The developers have expressed enthusiastic support for it, but I just don’t think the ip is popular enough to carry it to the end.
LEGO honestly needs to do some anime sets. I'm hoping for Spirited Away, not just because it would be dope, but because it could also lead to IPs like Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon down the line
I’m pretty sure that dragon ball and sailor moon are not allowed on lego ideas and I don’t think it’s because they’re too inappropriate so you might be on to something.
I love the MiB car, that's genuinely the one set outside of my collection interests that I would get. Shame that it is, as you say, perhaps not as iconic as to justify such a big scale. Other than that, I gotta stan all the video-game inspired sets, because those *are* my collection interest. The Outter Wilds one the most, because it's a reasonable scale, iconic in its own right, easily fitting with the Space theme. The Portal gun is also awesome, and there's the fact that Lego did pick up that IP in the past. The Skeld is the one I like the least, just because of how dauntingly huge it looks. I think it would be more fun to release Among Us Lego as separate rooms, each packed with a handful of different-colored minifigs. And yeah, I think the characters should have some kind of specialized minifig torso molds, because normal minifig legs work *ridiculously* well with the ingame animation. And as someone living in Prague, I often wondered which of our landmarks should get the Lego treatment, and the Dancing House is an obvious choice. I do, however, wonder when looking at the render how you could get all the wavy lines on the facade without a huge number of prints or stickers, so that might make it problematic adapting it into an actual build, at least without sacrificing some of its unique qualities. What caught my eye is the Rocky Reef Restoration project, which has all the stars for originality and more. It looks so eye-catching and busy and fun.
Metallica USED to be not as family-friendly (Their debut album, Kill ‘Em All, was originally titled Metal Up Your Ass), but after that album, their songwriting really matured, and they’ve been a thrash band for the whole family for years now. Plus, Metallica is most people’s introduction to metal, especially younger kids getting into the genre
Lego is never going to make a shrek set, and they’re never going to make a studio ghibli set. When was the last time you saw a non Japanese company release ghibli merch, besides blu-rays and t-shirts?
I am doubtful the Studio Ghibli submissions will be accepted, as from what I've heard, Studio Ghibli are almost just as bad as Nintendo in terms of copyright.
