Velotric has a policy of not posting negative reviews on its website. I purchased two bikes and left a one-star review for my purchased. After that, Velotric sent me an email stating that they reserve the right to select which reviews to post and which ones to reject.

Really interested in your 1 star review. What made it so bad compared to everyone else’s good experiences? I’m looking to get one but still doing my research

As a kid I rode a 3 speed and loved it, rode it up the steepest hills refused to walk it up, no suspension options then and ebike was scifi. BUT now 65 still refuse to walk up a hill but an 8 speed front suspension ebike for bike trails or bike lanes, 250watt, no throttle, I'm a rocket ship😅.

Same. I’m 57 and had a coaster brake Huffy growing up. Hills were fun back then but I was riding with friends the same age with similar bikes. Now I do group rides with guys half my age and my legs can’t keep up with them, especially on hills. Time for me to look into an e-bike. The Velotric T1 is catching my eye.

I was seriously considering the Roadster V2. But now I realize that I need more than one gear.

Ride1up has a carbon fiber road bike (and gravel version) for slightly more than the Velotric with gears. That’s a no-brainer to me. In the video comparison, the Roadster v2 is like half the price of the Velotric so not a fair comparison.
@ElectricBikeJournal
@ElectricBikeJournal 22 дня назад
@johnlocke3481 yes the newer CF1 is definitely a better comparison as far as bikes go, which we will do soon. The goal of this video was to have a discussion about the bike you need and how you will use it. Both bikes are intended for different riders. We like them both and ride them differently. It's easy to see the price difference and component spec difference.

these are the exact two bikes Im deciding between rn. I think i’ll grab the velotric when it comes back in stock. the full crankset makes it a better bike when the battery is off. Just need to paint the velotric and put the gravel tires on it to look like the roadster lol

The commenters may have asked for this comparison, and it is interesting, the comparisons I’d like to see are the VVolt Alpha and the Aventon Soltera.2 up against the Ride1Up Roadster V2 for a budget bike and the VVolt Centauri up against the Velotric T1 for the slightly more expensive (but still under $2K) and feature rich options.

I have the Roadster V2 Gravel and just a correction; the class 3 rating is for 24mph not 28mph. If it's possible to over ride the 20 mph limit on the Velotric T1 then that would make the decision easier for some people I would imagine. BUT with the extended battery that Ride1Up offers for the Roadster AND if the 24 mph limit can be overridden then this would be something to consider.
@ElectricBikeJournal
@ElectricBikeJournal 9 месяцев назад
I do apologize, I mispoke on the speed for Roadster, it is 24mph. The range extender is definitely a great offering for the Roadster, however Velotric will be stocking a range extender for the T1 eventually.
@philipwong5268
@philipwong5268 9 месяцев назад
Class 3 speed limit is 28mph. The 24mph limit is a Roadster V2 gravel limit because of its single gear ratio. When you get near 24 mph, you will have to pedal so fast that you can't go any faster. It will be like you pedal on thin air with no resistance. Having said that I really like the Roadster because of it weight and stealthiness.

I have been retired for 5 years and have 14K on my pedal bike a Giant Toughroad. I really like the bike but as I age an e-bike to assist up the hills would be nice. I added a suspension stem to the Toughroad but I see that some bikes are routing the wires through the stem so I think the Velotric is not going to work.

Torque sensor means you have to work harder when you tire out. Kind of the opposite of what I prefer. The throttle is such a handy tool, glad the Roadster has it AND a cadence sensor.

@ElectricBikeJournal
@ElectricBikeJournal 4 месяца назад
The T1 has further range. Technically both bikes are capable of having a range extender though. I think for distance having a geared bike better prepares you for more technical terrain and hills, specifically if you have extra gear with you.

Love the V2, you do not need a throttle, a one gear system is better no shifting and less weight, also rim brakes are lighter and less hassle than disc. Disc brakes only make sense on a MTB.
@BB-di3em

I understand the V2 Gravel is a single speed BUT it does have a throttle so wouldn't it make sense to use it to help get going up a hill (using it like a gear)?
@ElectricBikeJournal

This is true, but the throttle is less effective on this platform to offer that assistance then shifting gears and pedaling.

@@ElectricBikeJournal I watched the video solely to see how the Ride1Up throttle made-up for the fixed gearing but you didn't even use it (unless I missed something). This review is almost useless without acknowledging it.

@@kNewc I totally agree. This review was useless as he didn't even use the electric motor on the V2. What's the point of reviewing an electric bike if you are not going to use the electric motor? It's like buying a hybrid car and only using the gas engine.
@ElectricBikeJournal
@ElectricBikeJournal Месяц назад
We have an individual review on the V2 that shows the throttle in use. Being a "semi" comparison video here, we opted to not use the throttle in this video since the T1 doesn't have one to compare to.

@kNewc definitely used the motor on the V2. I know I wouldn't want to ride it with the motor off.

The review is comprehensive, yet it overlooks a few key details. The Velotric ST model, usually priced at $1500, has been and is still currently available at a discounted rate of $1100. Notably, the ST features somewhat wider tires than the regular T1, which, in my opinion, are more suitable for gravel terrain. Additionally, the Velotric ST can be unlocked to a class 3 bike, enabling speeds of up to 25mph on flat surfaces with concerted pedaling effort. In fact, on downhill stretches, I've managed to exceed 32mph, though I didn't push further due to the terrain conditions. With its price point, superior components like hydraulic brakes and actual gears, the Velotric ST offers greater versatility compared to the Ride1Up Roadster.
@ElectricBikeJournal
@ElectricBikeJournal 4 месяца назад
There's no arguing that there are good things to say about the ST, it just isn't different enough from the T1. We figured mechanical disc brake, single speed vs hydraulic, geared made for a better conversation about a bikes ability and a riders ability. Good lookin out though.
@chaschuky999
@chaschuky999 3 месяца назад
How’s your experience with the ST been? It’s between these three bikes pretty much for me, the ST seems to be in the lead. The price and what I want out of it just seem to intersect perfectly.
@papikorabase

Has anyone confronted the Class 1 regulation issue where they live? My community has not yet taken a formal position on ebikes on public trails, but lotsa chat on this issue. The prominent "class 3" label on the Ride 1up is a concern for me. BTW, we've had Ride 1up 700s for 4 years now and we enjoyed them. But, frankly, their power (and weight ;-( ) is well beyond what we need--as we're mostly on flat terrain. So, we're thinking of switching to a lighter ebike--Class 1.
@drill_fiend1097
@drill_fiend1097 2 месяца назад
Unless the bike has label, hard to say. We have trails with restrictions upto class 1, but I’ve seen plenty of folks on class 3 like Santa Cruz Skitch. Even on no-ebike paths, some people just ride their class 3 as it is hard to determine if it is eBike. Really hard to tell unless it is one of those fat ebikes, large cargo bikes or surrons.

I consistently have gotten around 25 miles on the Roadster V2, and around 55 on the T1. This is the lowest PAS mode with 70/30 road to gravel road loops.
@kangzau1006
@kangzau1006 5 месяцев назад
I am looking hard at these two bikes. To me, if you only ride in the suburbs and the streets are very mildly hilly, the less expnsive single speed opinion should be fine. It has such a low entry barrier (sub 1000$) to get into ebiking - get healthy and save gas. In a car buying analogy, it's like mobility afforded by a golf cart. If you want to do any amount of trial biking, mild mountain biking, i think you need consider the versatile (multiple) gearing and torque sensor of the thunder, which would be more like buying an entry Kia car, decent affordable transportation. On the other hand, The Roadster alone can already do a lot but has limits. You have to define budget and application. Going for Thunder adds 50 to 65% of the basic Roadster but both are great deals.
@kangzau1006

Just came baçk from some soggy mountain bike trials with a hard tail manual human powered bike. In the golf cart, Corolla analogy I further extend the analogy to say that those over $3000 mid drive bikes from TREK OR SPECIALIZED , their role is more like JEEP or allroad type of car. Would you drive a LAND ROVER to do everyday errands ?

Seems like something for off smooth roads could incorporate a rear suspension possibly. And perhaps 100 mm plus front fork travel . I bet my Kepler goes as good on those areas as these bikes . 😂 Weight is the only advantage of these bikes over a 1,000 watt 26x4 fat tire with a 52 or 60V system.. Put my Kepler in 7th gear and PAS 1 and you will pedal your butt off sweating and burning the legs.. Just like these bikes. Put it in PAS9 and throttle up no pedaling if your tired😬
