Which one should YOU get!? PIT BOSS Brunswick VS Pro Series 4 (v2)  

It's an easy choice if you need or want a new smoker ASAP. The Brunswick is not available. Anywhere.

I just got my Brunswick yesterday. Out of 4 walmarts in my town there was only one in stock. Picked it up and it did not disappoint.

Great video. My very 1st and only smoker is a PB series 4v1. Bought it in mid-April of 2020 and smoked all weekends except 5. Also smoked some during the week. It definitely does the job, and it's been a great learning experience as I was a beginner. That being said, the downsides have made made me rethink PB. The series 2 looks great; however, I'd do extensive research before another PB.

Convinced me. I finally found one a couple of weeks ago and we've used it for several cooks. Very pleased overall. No damage when received. However, the ash pan is nearly impossible to remove. Wifi feature works great.

I was in the same boat with everyone else waiting months for the brunswick to come in stock near me but then the new pro series 4 v2 came out and with it pretty much the same as brunswick I got it and its been great edition. even in the cold. it was 25° out the other day and held its temp throughout the whole cook.

I got my brunswick delivered from Wal-Mart last month its been working great it was delivered while I was out left in my drive way. but came undamaged .we smoked queso .baby backs ,chuck roast,chicken breasts .whole chicken and spam burnt ends everything had very thick smoke rings and great smoke flavor the probes worked well and loved having the Bluetooth app for monitoring while im out .its easy to clean and change the pellets

@Grill Sergeant: Thank you for all your videos that have helped me in making my decision to buy the Pitboss Pro Series (v2). I was about to buy a Masterbuilt, like very close to getting in the car to buy it, when suddenly a thought came into looking one last time @ pellet smokers. Someone once said that those pellets have chemicals in them and never felt like researching into pellet grills ever again. However i compared reviews with other electric smokers and the majority of folks said that the flavor you get from Pellet smokers you cannot get from an electric smoker, plus you have very less wood chips you can add at a time in electric smokers, as opposed to have a huge hopper for pellets, essentially load once and forget. Plus the pitboss pellets are all natural pellets. One point really that stood out for me is when you mentioned that for smokers that have the dial/temperature controls at the bottom, the drippings will flow down over it and become messy. That's a great point, never thought about that, that made me narrow my decision down to: Brunswick vs proseries (v2). I really don't want to wait and wait till a damaged Brunswick shows up at my house, so i am going with a proseries v2. The only drawback i can think of is the 25 degree temp increments as opposed to the 10 degree increments in the Brunswick. I guess ill just have to adjust my smoking time if i ever need a temperate in between 25 degrees. Once again, a BIG THANK YOU for all your videos.

I went with the Pro Series 4 (v2). I can adjust the PDI controller in 10 degree increments. I guess that is an upgrade they made since you made this video. The Pro Series checked all the boxes for me. PDI controller, heat through vents, burn pot clean out, WIFI and Bluetooth. Thanks for doing this video.

Everything you said about all 3 smokers is on point. I have the Pro series 4 V1, been using it for half a year now...NEVER had a issue since I brought it home from Lowes. I like the Brunswick but way to many people are complaining of shipping, damages, and constant error codes when in the middle of a cook. I like the V2 pro series and really thinking of switching from the V1 to V2...based on the upgrades I have seen. I don't know anyone that has the V2 and if they do are they having any issues. I love the fact that V1 and V2 are the same price.

I purchased the Pro Series 4 Version 2 this last weekend and they must have already made changes to the controller. You can now set by 10 degree increments

I’m making the jump from propane to pellet, made the choice of getting the Brunswick! Easy to find, went on the Walmart app , it was unavailable, so signed up for a notification of availability, a week later I get the notification and made my purchase! Should arrive Feb 28th, and hopefully with no shipping issues! ( but then again, most of anything shipped always has an issue!) thanks for the videos, made me smile when I recognized the Lowe’s! 😉💯

I found a Brunswick at Dirt Cheap in Slidell, La for $175 yes you read that correctly $175 😂 no issues at all. Auger had some old pellets in it I cleaned it out works like new.

yeah i purchased the Pro Series version 2. My only complaint really is you can't fine tune temps. its either 175, 200,225, 250 300, 350, 400. I would at least have 15-25 degree intervals all the way to 400.

I have solved most of the issues on my PB4V2.....Wifi....erratic temps...etc. But there is one that I can't fix without a firmware update. The input RTD measurement has severe lag on the display. The actual temperature inside the smoker gets to temp much much much faster than the screen shows it. I was smoking chicken this past Sunday and with separate temperature probes inside about 1/4" away from the smoker RTD....it shows the temperature getting to setpoint(200 degs F) from 150 Degs in about 10 mins...and it levels off right at 200. But the display on the smoker said it was only 181....and it took 45 mins to show getting to 197....but the internal temp just stayed at 200 the whole time. I am going to submit this to Pit Boss....because most people think it is not getting to temperature, but it really is...strange input filtering lag for sure. Would be easy to fix....I believe it is a similar issues like the 1150 that if you notice they sped up the RTD measurement dramatically to fix the instability on that smoker. BUT.....I LOVE it....and will work around this issue until they fix it or not....because it is built like a tank and easy to clean...is amazing....except for a few software quirks. I have not used my RecTec RT-380 since I got this smoker...more space and easier to clean for sure.

Pro 4 V2 has another upgrade over V1. The handle on the back is much beefier. I think it's the same size as the one on the Brunswick. That being said, I have the V1 and have never thought the handle was too small.

I didn't see anyone else comment but just wanted to state that I just bought the same Pit Boss and the control panel now allows you to adjust in 10 degree increments. However, the lackluster Smoke IT app does not allow this and is only 50 degree increments. If you accidentally change the temp in the app you will have to go manually correct it on the smoker itself.

I bought the brunswick and have had nothing but trouble with it. Pitboss tech told me to throw it away and buy a new one. That some good customer service ... I bought a green mountain next and it's been awesome.

How do you get at the ignitor?

Loving your content bro. I'm looking at offset smokers or a vertical pellet smoker like these. I don't really dig charcoal smokers since everything cooked on them tends to taste the same. What's your take on smoke flavor from these pellet smokers? I've heard it's a struggle to get enough smoke with pellets.

I bought the Series 4 V2 about a year and half ago and mine adjust a 10 degree increments. Just started watching your channel.

With two if the doors is warped like mine is then it won’t seal correctly.

Do you see the vents on the side being an issue to clean?

My local Walmart has 3 Brunswick in stock at $447 while my Lowes also has the 4V2 for $449. I'm completely new to the smoking game, what would be the best option? I tried a charcoal weber smokey knock off by Cuisinart and I do not recommend it to anyone lol.

Can that V2 door latch be put on the V1? That is the only thing I hate about mine, it does come open easy if not careful.

I cooked for the first time yesterday on the pro series V2. 5lb. Pork butt. I cooked the butt for 6 hours on the top shelve and then put a rack of ribs on the middle shelf. I pulled the ribs off after 5 hours and they were done. The butt was on the grill for 11 hours and the temperature never got above 195. The smoker was set at 225.

Have you ever used the camp chef brand? Was looking at the camp chef wifi XXL vertical smoker, has gotten good reviews, but hard to find as well.

Sarg . I had a Brunswick and it was junk, always got earor codes, then the auger stopped working . Nothing but troubles… Finley got rid of it , and now I have the series 4 version 2 and it is much better ……

I have a v1 and like the fact that the juices end up in the water pan might be just me but I feel that the flavored steam ads to the food if not just the smell

I’m looking at buying the pro series 4 v2 from Lowe’s for my new smoker. I’ve watched several of your videos and I see that you have other pitboss models as well. What’s your overall opinion on the series 4 v2? For the money it seems to me to be like the best deal as far as pellet smokers go. But I’m still uneasy about buying something thats massed produced. My brother in law has had several smokers and his new one is a Rec Tec and he says he wouldn’t buy anything but that again in the future. Options on that? Thanks in advance

I stopped inside of Lowe's and the Pro 4 was 449.99. I stopped back inside of Lowe's the next night and the price had increased to $500. I believe it's probably the set price nationwide. It's a bummer because the original staring price was 399.99. Do you think it is worth $500?

On the Brunswick what is the temps running at the cooking levels compared to the temp the smoker has?

I bought the Brunswick and have had nothing but problems. They show up Wed to take it back and get a refund. Pretty bummed it didn't work out and maybe i got a lemon. At least i got one solid cook out of it! lol

The Brunswick is $50 more not $150. The door latch is not adjustable on the version 2. There is a reason the Brunswick is hard to get. It is a better all around build.

You said that with the Pro Series you will have a little problem with a 20 pound or higher brisket. What about the full slab of ribs, will they fit w/o breaking them up?

IMO it doesn't deserve the pro lable if the controller doesn't do 10 degree increments. I don't know why pit boss does that.

Why not compare to the Competition Series? I think its a good split between the pro and brunswick

The Pro Series controllers have issues. I would avoid those until they get issues worked out, lots of complaints. The controller for the Brunswick is much better. As for me, I have the Series 3 copperhead and it is a champ so no need to get another at this time.

I bought the Brunswick, and it came in destroyed! could not even use it. sent it back to walmart and then went to lowes and bought the P4V2. I have had this smoker for almost a year and I'm not happy. it will not hold temp! if I set it for 225 it runs a 170 to 180, this weekend I did a overnight smoke of 2 pork butts @ 225 deg and when I woke up at 6am the temp was 218. is anyone else having this issue?
