Quick advice to help you make your mind up deciding between the currently available ‘off the shelf’ ergonomic split columnar mechanical keyboards.
Should you buy the Moonlander from ZSA, Advantage 360 from Kinesis or the Glove80 from MoErgo? All damn good boards with different strengths and weaknesses.
Full reviews of each of these boards are on my channel:
Moonlander: • Review: ZSA Moonlander...
Advantage360 Pro: • Review: Kinesis Advant...
Glove80: • Review: MoErgo Glove80...

First of all, I'm super grateful that you made this video short without a lot of time-wasting rambling, so thanks for that. But its funny because I recognized the book you have in the background about responsive web design, and I wondered why you had it on the wall. I'm actually going through that book right now to polish up and get a better understanding of the front-end side of things. I looked at the name of the channel and realized that you are the author of the book I'm reading! Just a funny coincidence I wasn't expecting.

Had the Moonlander Mark I for close to a year now, and I'm very happy with it I still would like it to have a key well on it to make reaching the very bottom and very top keys easier; to have a more aggressive vertical stagger for each finger (especially the pinky); and to have a better tenting system built-in, but other than that? It's perfect for me, and the software, support and all that goes around with them is just absolutely brilliant.
@routchenko

Same here, a year ago got the moonlander, I needed more tenting, got the platform accessory 5 weeks ago and it feels like a new keyboard. I backed the dygma defy in kickstarter to get a tenting system built-in but still haven't shipped the product.

I have used the Kinesis Advantage2 and 360 Pro for a while. I recently purchased a Moonlander as a travel keyboard. The build quality is excellent and the size is indeed nice for travel. But I still feel kinda... lost? The key wells on the Advantage always guide your hand to the right positions, but with the Moonlander I always feel like I have to realign my hands again. I also have to float and move my hands a lot more during typing to reach keys (even the outer bounds of the rows above/below the home row). It will probably get better with time. But when I go from the Moonlander to the Advantage again, the Advantage feels like a pair of well-fitting gloves, it is completely natural. I also feel like I have to stretch my thumbs quite a bit more on the Moonlander, reaching the second thumb key feels far more unnatural. If I position my thumb on the first thumb key of the Moonlander and then put my hand on an Advantage, it's on the second thumb key of the Advantage. So it seems like the Moonlander's thumb cluster is about 1U width farther away. I should probably put it in the flat position (putting it up is awkward for my hands), but then I need another tenting mechanism. (Why oh why did they make the thumb cluster the tenting mechanism?)

Had my Moonlander a good while now. I can't remember when I got it really and I love it. I do think you do need a bit of bigger hands to use it comfortably however. It did break on me, I had some electrical fault in the board which ZSA solved quickly by sending me a new one no questions asked. Did not even have to send the old one back. Customer Support on ZSA was ... marvellous to say the least. Like really really good.

The real question is, WHY DO NEITHER OF THESE HAVE MOUSE CONTROLS ON THE THUMB CLUSTERS? Moving my hand to my mouse is NOT ergonomic. Why is the UHK the only prebuilt with mouse controls on the thumb clusters?

Also worth considering is the upcoming Dygma Defy. No keywell, and a steep price, but you can get it with tenting and wireless. The configurator software looks nice, the tenting solution is elegant, the construction looks well designed and solid, and the RGBW is an interesting addition. Plus, enough thumb keys to occupy two spiders, if you're into that kind of thing.

@benfrainuk
@benfrainuk Год назад
@@andriitserkovnyi1740 depends on two things. If you need it now to help your health, get a Moonlander. Two, if you like dedicated arrow keys in line with your home row (I do but it might just be me!) the Defy is unlikely to accommodate that as the extra keys are all in the thumb area. In which case get a Moonlander. But in addition, if you can’t wait, you could get Moonlander now, and a Defy when it comes out, and sell the one you like least!
@routchenko
@routchenko Год назад
@Andrii Tserkovnyi I have the Moonlander with the tenting kit and I've backed the Defy, I honestly don't know if I'm going to use the Defy, the material might be better, but my biggest doubt is the configurator. ZSA's isn't perfect, but has improved a lot in the past year, specially how easy is to use their web version with chrome without having to download anything. So even that is plastic I think that the Moonlander is kind of the best option and because of how long it's been in the market, the best in community support. I may change the Defy for a Corne, I'm also looking for more portable split keyboards in the future.

If you're upgrading from the previous Kinesis Advantage, the Kinesis 360 is a bit of an easier transition. The software is a bit of a pain in the rear, but once you've got it working it's great.

@@nickgoogle4525 I rarely use regular keyboard, but it depends on the keyboard, heavily: a MBP is fine, my normal mechanical (cherry mx Brown) Cooler Master keyboard feels like a crap.
