Really interesting comparison videos you had Some of those plugin definitely sounds good, but Line 6 Polycapo hands down! Great and informative videos man
Polycapo still sounds best and I think that's due to the Auto EQ. I sort of managed to make the same result with Petrucci by not bypassing the EQ or even better, creating another selective EQ plugin in between. However, that's too much trouble for something that Polycapo simply accomplishes with a single slider
Polycapo still sounds the best to me. Ps: Cheers for adding chapters/timecode to the video. Makes it super easy to jump around and compare. By far Pitch Proof was the worst. Did ok on single notes but totally fell over with chords. Cheers :)
Yeah PitchProof wasn’t that great. And I had high hope for the new STL Tones Droptaver. But they do say they working on a new polyphonic pitchshifter. So that should be exciting
Yeah all my Floyds are tuned to half step, so I use Agean to tune to standard and if artifacts a ton. The poly capo on the line 6 is indeed the best, I had it on Helix. Now I'm all vst until I get the Tonex. Is this available in the stomp? I would buy one just for that function alone.
Yeah! I was trying to push them to the max. Most do 2 to 3 semitones fine. But am always super surprised how well Helix Poly Capo handles even up to 7 or even 8 semitones down
Just commented the same thing. Be cool to know, doubt it come close to the helix, maybe sit around the mid tier zone. But what I love about presonus is they're always working hard to improve the software. Definitely use your connection there with ideas and suggestions!
Kuassa whamy, 1990s digitech dimebag cooked whamy For clean pitch shift and more any neural dsp with Transpose - pitch shift is great, i use their mesa boogie effects section ad well
@@GaryHiebner very good, depends on what you want, if its something like drop tune and whammy like the digitech its perfect..I prefer using my neural dsp mesa boogie with the amps off, it has a transpose function that is very clean with no extra colouring *diode leek the pedal* and in addition to this my mesa boogie has some drive comp and mod pedals if I want.
Watching for the first time today, and I used the Pitchproof plugin (also for the first time) yesterday. It's not the best but I don't think it's the worst and it's free which is great for my bank balance! What I will say is I noticed artifacts early on and I managed to clean it up by playing around with the settings in the bottom of the GUI. Rather bizarrely, I think I noticed less artifacts when I switched off "Transient Fix". No idea why. Also I noticed that once your guitar gets a certain amount out of tune, Pitchproof really struggles. But I'm happy with it for a free plugin, and I see no reason right this second to pay for anything better!
great video,, winner is the poly, THU its a surprise really, it's good for how old it is. please compare with the Digitech THE DROP, i have one and dont know if its better than the pretucci.
I got both and on HX Effects the Poly Capo does cut away some frequencies. You slightly notice it and makes no difference in real life. But Drop Pedal doesn't affect tone that much
kinda random but I saw that you have a QOTSA patch on helix native, do you have a video demoing that patch? I love playing qotsa songs to have fun when Im kinda bored
I can't even remember that patch. I don't see it in my presets anymore. Sorry wish I could remember what the patch was. But yeah QOTSA have auch a unique tone.
Great video mate. i got the hx stomp and i was using the simple pitch, now i have to check the polycapo. I trought that the petrucci was the best way to do it becouse i tried the 14 days free sounds so good to me.
Yeah I also had a Stomp and was using the Simple Pitch. But then I got some information back from a Line6 user to try out PolyCapo and was blown away. The name doesn't really make you think Drop Pitch. Replace all your Simple Pitch Blocks with the Poly Capo. But it is quite heavy on the processor. So if its greyed out then it means your chain already has too much and an instance of PolyCapo can't be added.
The makers of Pitchproof (Agean Music) have a 65$ plugin, Pitchometry that is like Pitchproof on steroids(and polyponic!) Best pitch plugin around. Period!
Pitchometry has the same problem that Pitchproof has for me, and that's that it completely fails with lower notes. It's basically unusable for bass or extended range guitars.
@@GaryHiebner I had the DT but sold it cuz it was just too big. They say the HX One does pitch stuff better but I have yet to try. It's really hard to obtain those in my country.
I have Helix and the PolyCapo module in there is very good. Probably on par or better then the Digitech Drop. And you could load that same module on the HX One pedal and use it as a pitch drop effect.
I tried to use plugins that weren't DAW specific. So more 3rd party pitch plugins that can be used in any DAW. But now thinking about it you can buy Ampire separately. Maybe in another update video will test it out
@@GaryHiebner 100%! You can buy the ampire rig and but the whammy is part of the High Gain bundle. The one with the pineapple 🍍 Love the videos dude, good to see some solid SA content 💪
Great video, and really helpful in deciding where to get my drop tuning from. Quick question though: Where in the signal chain is your pitch shifter? As I understand it, they work best before everything else in the chain, but I'd like to still use my HX Stomp then downtune in the software after. Will this work, or am I forced into vst guitar tones to make this work? Cheers
Its best to put before anything else in the signal chain? What are you using to pitch shift down? I can highly recommend the PolyCapo in the Helix Stomp
@@GaryHiebner Thanks for the response. Yknow I didn't actually think the Poly Capo worked on HX Stomp, as it was always greyed out in the editing software. I guess it's just very resource-intensive, as it works on a patch with little else on.... my plan I think will be to get Helix Native (cheaper, since I own the Stomp), and do reverb and other heavy stuff in there, so the Poly Capo can sit on the Stomp at the front of the signal chain. It's that or Pitch Proof destroying everything at the back end of my chain! Thanks for the insight 👍
Yeah definitely try out PolyCapo. One of the better pitch shifters have used but it is CPU intensive. But yeah if you go Helix Native you can add an instance of Helix Native on each track and just use the PolyCapo there and used the Helix Stomp for other tasks.
Great video! Where can I find or get access to the poly capo? Also I'm curious to know how the NDSP Archetype Gojira wow pedal stacks up with the rest (or if it's the same as the Petrucci). NDSP made a video and even provides presets to transpose using it. To add more logs in the fire, what about a DigiTech DROP pedal compared to all the above?! Maybe a part 3 in the near future?
Yeah I think Gojira and Petrucci are using the same pitchshifting algorithm. Except with Gojira its a whammy and you can't just input to drop it by 7 semitones. But its easy to pedal up or down to get -12 or +12 semitones
don't know what I'm doin wrong but Poly Capo sounds terrible - using Babyface Pro, Cubase Pro 13, Beyerdynamic 880s, and different Guitars on Neural DSP Plini X - Input Level is about -12 ~ -9 and the Artifacts are just Groundbreaking 😂 Petrucci is ok but only when I use the Plugin as Amp, when I use just transpose, also terrible. Playing with Fast and Stable on 128 Buffersize 48khz 24 bit. Trauer
Hey Ike. Would love to do a pedal comparison as well. Its on the wishlist. Getting a Digitech Drop and Whammy v4 DT. What other pedals are also good at pitchshifting? Heard the Ricochet is a contender as well. But that has fixed settings. So some intervals you can't get to.
@@GaryHiebner I am going to dig into my pedal pile and get back to you. Parallel to Boss Octave-3 was another company who did pedals like the Drop, so I will have a couple suggestions. Cheers!
What you using to pitch down and how far are you pitching down? I find with bass you can't really go further than 2-3 semitones or else the sound really starts breaking up
Hey guys, quick question. When I'm using the pitch glider on my POD, I can't get rid of the original pitch/tone, so it becomes a harmony. Turning the mix to 100% doesn't help either. Has anyone encountered this/Solved the problem?
