the BEST review on the subject on YT by far! Thanks for the great editing, letting us see the swatches in different light, giving us enought time to tell the difference and form an opinion. Superb
I use Joico purple shampoo & it makes my hair pretty platinum depending on how long I leave it in. It also doesn’t make my hair dry & crunchy like some other purple shampoos do. Thanks for the video.
Would love to see you do this with silver hair that has a yellow tint to it. I have struggled with mine turning yellow and want it to be the white silver it was meant to be! 😊
I too having my natural white hair from turning yellowish ..... using purple once a week, keeping my shampoos and conditioner clear or white, my combs very clean, dry my hair just towel dry, do not use straighteners as heat will turn hair yellow, also as my hair is short I wash daily. You cannot wear a white blouse twice can you, same goes with white hair .. once my hair is nearly dry I use a little pure coconut cream to give it shine.. learning as I go along........ Charo
My hairdresser recommended Fanola after I went from auburn red to a light cool blonde and damn that shampoo is amazing! Was curious if it would turn up here and it did, great video! Very informative. I'm sticking to Fanola for now, but interesting to know you can get such different tones with different shampoos.
@@kimberlywhite2599 It really is! I actually turned my hair a light purple/blue when I let it sit in for an hour (on purpose, I was curious what would happen) and it looks pretty cool. It's Temporarily of course but crazy knowing it's just from a shampoo!
@@gaylejones1545 i got mine on amazon. I know there's legitimacy issues when buying through them but I have had no issue with my fanola. I know you can buy from fanola direct or you can ask beauty stores/salons.
I have been searching for a video like this for so long... thank you for making this wonderful video! And by the way you make your mother's hair looks so beautiful every time!
Thank you SO MUCH for this video. I gave myself a headache trying to find the best purple shampoo for my hair. I wanted one that wasn’t going to turn my buttery bleach blonde hair an ash blonde so it looks like Paul Mitchell will be perfect!
Great video, right to the point and then the eye candy!!.. The Pravana and Paul Mitchell ones look lovely. I have Matrix and Verb shampoos and conditioners, the Verb one is stronger and cooler. Need to test them more. Thanks for a fantastic breakdown, definitely subscribing!
THANK YOU SO MUCH for making such a clear and through video, this answered a lot of the questions i had in one video vs 8 diff review video's so thank you !
Thank you for doing this video. I am using Bold Unique currently but had heard or read about many of the ones you tested. This now confirms I am using the best for what I need for my hair.
I have natural white/silver hair that can turn yellow if I dont stay on top of it. I've tried maaaaany purple shampoos , Fanola so far is the one that has work the best FOR ME, as long as I don't leave for too long since I want silver not purple hair. All of them can dry up the hair if used often, keep this in mind and use a good hair mask.
This is AMAZING! Thank you so much for this, I was having such a hard time making a decision because I know all those 'best products for x' articles are made up so I don't trust them. This is exactly what I needed, and now I know I should go with Amika!
I use Fanola. I like that purple shade it gives to the hair if I leave it on for 15 minutes. If I want something like silver I don’t leave it on for more than a couple of minutes 🤷🏻♀️
here is a list of other purple shampoos you can add to your list: John Freida intensive purple shampoo(drugstore brand, this one is pretty strong!! i think it can reach the top 3 , it made my hair silver and purpleish) L'oreal elvive purple shampoo (drugstore brand as well not good as the john freida, but pretty cheap) like 2-4 dollars I believe Redken blondage shampoo(have not try this yet) Clariol shimmering lights(this one is pretty drying , but I think it should fit inbetween pravana and fanola shampoo) Looking forward to your second purple shampoo video. This should have 100k views, not many people do intensive testing as you!!
Thanks for the recommendations, Thomas! I really appreciate that. And thank you for the kind words. I’m planning the next purple shampoo video now, so I’ll add those to my list.
Thank you! Your video is so informative. I like it very much. I have never died my hair, so it is going white naturally. I am 60 years old now, but my hair is still not totally white. It seems to take forever. And yet my white silver hair grows very well distributed as if I had done highlights. I have been using coconut shampoo and conditioner lately and now I have learned about purple shampoo. Not sure which to try first but for sure I don't want my hair to look purple 😄. Again, thank you 🙏👌 By the way, I subscribed 👍
This was really nice to se what they all do. I love the fanola now yellow, but its really pigmented and its easy to overtone and get purple on really light hair, so i often mix a little bit with regular schampo. But im curious to try some of the other. Milkshake has i great one too that we use at the salon, not that strong but really conditioning at the same time 😊
Yeah, it’s neat to see all the different tones of blonde you can get just by switching the purple shampoo you are using. Until I got them all into bowls in front of me, I didn’t realize just how much the pigment in each shampoo REALLY varies. I’m thinking of doing a part two since there are SO many purple shampoos out there, so I’ll include Milkshake if I do. Thanks for the recommendation. 🙂 Fanola No Yellow is fantastic, but also, SO STRONG! You can easily overtone level 10 hair to purple on accident. Diluting it is definitely smart!
Paul Mitchell is the best for those of us with platinum highlights on natural blond hair, in my experience. It also seems to leave the hair relatively "neutral" in tone, so if your client has neutral/ peachy skin it's not too ashy. I have blue eyes but peachy skin that tans, so I've noticed if I use the stronger purple shampoos it's just too cool toned & I look weird. Don't get me wrong, a highlight that's too warm can look "off" as well, in the sense that it looks unnatural, but it never looks as bad as the very ashy purple looks on me, almost like it clashes with my skin
Oh definitely! Finding the right shade of blonde for you is so important! And each of these shampoos affects the color differently. Paul Mitchell is definitely the least pigmented so it allows more control on super light blondes. Plus it smells so good!
Yes, blue is used to neutralize orange. This video is comparing different purple shampoos for neutralizing yellow. I may do a video in the future comparing blue shampoos.
I have used the Fanola no yellow, but I felt it left my hair dull looking. Maybe left it on too long? I found Sally Ion purple shampoo to be pretty nice, especially if you don't want a dull ashy look.
These are helpful videos, but I wish someone would do a comparison for people with brunette hair who are trying to stop dying the hair and transitioning to salt and pepper gray.
@@ChuckEdwardsHair My hairdresser suggested I try purple shampoo to help me transition to gray hair, but didn't suggest a specific brand. So I've watched several videos about purple shampoo today and all of them are talking about using it on blond hair. I don't have blond hair so these videos don't answer my question. I haven't seen anything that shows what it does to reddish brown hair that's going gray. We stripped the red out of my hair, so now it's mousy brown with gray, but the red keeps bleeding through. I wondered if purple shampoo would keep the red from bleeding through. I actually found the answer by reading blogs later today and have ordered Fanola No Orange. Hopefully that will solve the challenge I'm having.
@@kellywilliams529 unfortunately, purple shampoo will do nothing for orange or red hair. You’ll need blue for orange or green for red toning shampoo. The fanola no orange is a good one to try or maybe even matrix dark envy.
The purple shampoo does help with my yellowing in my hair. But it also darkens and dulls my pretty silver natural grey hair ‼️ So what do it do ❓ Also looking for the best conditioner that will condition and make my silver shinny ‼️ thank you
What kind of shade/colour would you recommend to neutralise both orange AND ashy green? I have both going on lol, and I just want a clear neutral, preferably buttery/creamy/beige blonde 😅
I'm late to the party for this video but was curious to see what was best for silver hair. I need to combat brassiness, and was disappointed to see that this was all about blonde hair. Any suggestions?
I loved this video thank you for the effort, I have grey highlightes with dark cool brown roots and I'm actually confused about what to get, specially that most of the products that you mentioned are not available in my country:( except Catwalk and Fanola, which one do you recommend to keep my hair as grey as possible?
Thank you for this video. Can you please tell me which 2-3 look more silver...not blonde or lavender. I can't read the tag after the Fanola, 2 letters. I used a generic dark purple shampoo from Sally's in the shower on my bleached (yellow) hair but it didn't help much. My hair is quite porous and dry though. How best to achieve the silver...leave in longer on damp hair maybe??? Many thanks!
Orange needs blue, not purple. (Commenting in case someone else sees this) I have read to do blue until the orange tones are gone, then purple to get rid of any yellow remaining.
wow thanks for doing such an honest review! This was so much more helpful than some other vids out there (esp someones name who rhymes with chad condo)
I have grey hair and would like to Brighten it up I have used purple shampoo and either it doesn't have much effect on my hair or I end up with some hair being more purple so it looks patchy. Any Advice would be appreciated.
Just found you (your mom’s silver transformation), & just subscribed. If you do another purple shampoo comparison, can you please try Pureology as well as the old standard Clairol version? Not sure what to use on my (growing out) bright neon white hair, if I should need it. Take care -
Hi Debbie! Thanks for subscribing! I’m definitely thinking about another purple shampoo video so I’ll add those to the list. Thanks for the suggestions.
These are actually level 9 swatches. The level 10 lightest blonde swatches don’t really have enough yellow to tone out, so I went with these darker ones.
Ultimately you need to gage the amount of yellowing in your hair. If it’s slight, just use on e of the ones on the left side of my line up. If you have a lot of yellowing, move to the right side for more purple color to neutralize more yellow.
I hope you see this!! I just used fanola today and it left me a lil bit off the color purple on my hair.I think the color stained my hair. how do i take it off? Will it come off on its own with just using regular shampoo? Please help
Purple shampoo is designed to tone hair. It doesn’t have a specific toning purpose. Some people use it to remove brass. Others use it to tint their hair purple.
