I went from a 31’ class A to a 25’ Leisure Travel Van and the stress level was reduced by 80% to me. Driving is enjoyable now and I actually look forward to it now. Less worries about what can go wrong.

Our first RV was a 2016 Leisure Travel Vans Unity Murphy Bed. It was a well built, quality RV. Problem was we adopted a dog who was supposedly full grown at a year old and 39 lbs. Within a few months, his weight increased to 80 lbs. and he grew four inches longer. The Leisure Travel Van was too small so we opted for the class A.

We went from multiple travel trailers over the years to a 23' Class-C (13 years) to now a Class-B (3 years+) that we love!!! (Pleasure-Way Lexor 2019) As you mentioned so much less stress driving and so nice to travel with. We do out for 3 to 4 weeks at a time and maybe stay in one or two campgrounds...

I really respect that you don’t tell people what to choose. It is too big of a decision to be responsible for that. But you do provide a great benefit to your viewers. Sharing your story has been one of the best sources of information for our research. We are 55 and 66, one retired one not but with a lot of vacation time. Keeping our Tampa Bay home, but planning on long weekends at FL state parks and a couple cross country trips a year. Your stories have made us realize that a class B will probably give us the best overall satisfaction and less hassles. Thank you so much, will let you know what we end up getting, probably a Travato, love your Gretch but has a lot of auto features I’m not sure we can afford. Hope to see you on the road!

Great review! thanks for the comparison. We've not had a Class A - lots to like about them, but we like the interior space of a large 5th wheel (we have a 43' solitude) - and the nimbleness of a small travel trailer for national parks, etc (we also have a 23' airstream). there is no one rv that works for everything. all about compromise. love the videos - thanks

Over our four decades of RVing we have owned everything from a 26 ft travel trailer to a truck camper to a 40 ft Mobile Suite to a 30 ft Airstream and finally have found our “sweet spot”….a 25 ft Leisure Travel Van Unity IB. It is only 5 inches wider on each side than a class B and offers a massive amount of living and storage space compared to class b’s we viewed. Our model features no slide (over the years I have battled with almost every type of slide system and experienced issues with every one), a permanent, always made up bed, and a true wet bath. Over time I will make changes, install a more robust Lithium energy system and remove the generator, but for our current state of life the LTV offers a quality build with lots of living and storage room. If you have the time, check them out.

That is awesome, we are so glad you found what works best for you! 👍🏻🧡 We have checked them out before as well as about everything out there. The thing you always have to remember is, not everyone travels and lives the exact same way and sometimes that extra 5 inches wider does make a big difference if you are somewhere that is limited to where you can park and your only option is in between two other vehicles. There are numerous reasons why the current Class B works so well for us and build quality is one of them also. Many things that you can not see that make a difference. These are all reasons why we never tell someone what “we” think they should buy, because we all can have much different things that mean more to us/you. Sometimes it takes a while living in something or different models in order to know what works best “for you”…much like you have here. For us and our busy lifestyle, one thing we know for certain is, we definitely don’t want to pull anything (at least right now in our lives). The smaller we have went, we found less worries and more time to concentrate on work and adventures. Your model is definitely a great RV too and again, we are so glad it works so well for you guys. 🧡😊🤓

When I had a class A motorhome, I parked the drivers side wheels on a long pained line in a parking lot. I placed masking tape on the inside of the windshield such that it covered the line from view when seated in the drivers seat. Did the same with the passenger side wheels, and taped from the driver seat view. When driving, the tape marks helped me judge my position in the lane. When I was satisfied with the tape position, I replaced the masking tape with pin striping tape.

We are starting out with a class B - Winnebago ERA for all the reasons you guys mentioned. We go between Evergreen CO to Arizona, CA and Florida. Basically, I am now an Uber driver for my wife. I think we made a good decision. Safe Travels to everyone on the roads.

Everyone can have different things in an RV that are more important, but yes, the smaller size of a Class B has worked out much better for us than the Class A or Airstream Classic has.

This was a good overview. Totally with you on the "fewer things to worry about" and manage. All those micro-decisions and actions add to increased stress over time. We have a Mercedes Sprinter Class C right now with two slides. I can see us in a Grech or a no-slide Leisure Travel Van someday. Or a truck camper! Love the power management and heating system of the Grech Ions. Visionary. We're four-season travelers and the slides are definitely an issue for heating/cooling.

We aren’t full timers, but we may spend upwards of four months on the road, as we did this past summer (we visited 12 national parks and the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta). We own a 2018 Tiffin Class A diesel pusher, which we ordered and took delivery of new in the fall of 2017. It is 35 feet long, so we can get into most national parks. We flat tow a Jeep Grand Cherokee, so we’re 54 feet long when underway. We have four slide outs: two large forward and two smaller in the rear. We like the room, the residential refrigerator, the stacked washer and dryer, and the basement storage. We also enjoy listening to Sirius XM and watching sports on Dish Network. We do not like how many things can go wrong with a class A. We had hydraulic leaks in our leveling system, had a rear slide out fail, a kitchen drawer collapse (fastener securing one of the rails fell out; I was able to repair this myself). We spent much of our trip worrying about what might break next. We also do not like how expensive annual maintenance is; easily between $2k and $3k every year. And we’ll have to replace all six tires early next year, which will probably run $5k at least. We love the simplicity of the Grech Strada Ion. Annual maintenance would be less expensive. Fuel mileage would be much better. There are fewer systems that could fail. What we don’t like is how expensive they are.

We have a ‘99 class A that I drove for the first time by myself to get new tires years ago. I was LITERALLY shaking when I got to the tire shop! Driving it is not for me, so my S/O does the driving. Would ❤️ an LTV but they are expensive too. Last vacation with said class A was too expensive repair-wise, so driving to FL next yr to rent an AirB&B trailer set up in a campground. I think you’re definitely on to something with a class B! Love your channel which is #1 in my book! Safe travels this week!

Excellent video and assessment of your three RVs. Although we are not full timers, in 2022 we started with a new 25’ Airstream & F250. I have hip mobility issues and unfortunatly / fortunatly the hitching process forced us to sell after only 7 trips. We now have a 2022 Pleasure-Way Class B very similar to yours, AND LOVE IT! So much easier, and in my case, doable. I would have laughed at anyone who even suggested a Class B at the beginning of our journey.

We have had everything from TTs to Class A gas to diesel motorhomes. When we went full-time we bought our Super C. Absolutely love it for many reasons. Enjoy your adventures!

We have often talked about how we would like to try a Super C sometime. They are very nice. They are like any other RV of course with their pros and cons and I always ask Michelle if she thinks she would feel scared in it just like she did in the Class A. Her response was always, maybe if it wasn’t a really long one, like maybe a 34’. We would still have more to worry about though, so maybe someday after (or if) we ever retire. Lol

The only thing you did not address and what I would find essentially interesting is overall costs Cost of the unit, cost of operation on a monthly basis (in terms of maintenance and such) including differences in cost of RV parks and such.

Well, we did talk about the maintenance cost of the Class A was more and RV parks does not differ for us since we mainly use our campground membership. However, we did also mention how it is easier to find camping spots with a Class B (van) with the shorter length. Sometimes our membership will charge extra $ for 50 amp service, so if you use 30 amp you would save that $3, $5 or $7 per night at those few places.

Great comparison's ! We've learned so much with Stella & Wally, that I could see us in a B class when we have no pups. I noted your cons on the 33FB & this is now what works for us: we level from the comfort of the cab of Wally (with me outside) until we get the "sweet spot". I've measured the different size Andersen blocks & can usually eyeball. As for the black tank, we only connect when time to dump, so he only has to handle "as needed". We did set a reminder for the Alde system & it has worked incredibly well for us. We added an induction top & store in the desk chair on travel days. Updates : we removed the keyboard & stored under the bed ; Vinnie added a lift kit (I was out voted ) and now will add solar. He is saying we will attend the next trade show AND he even listens to others share their downsizing stories. Hope to see y'all on the road...Wanda Ret-Ta-Go 🤗🏍

Usually when we stayed at a Thousand Trails for 3 weeks at a time, we were like others, where we left the sewer hose connected while we stayed there for 3 weeks. No need to take it on and off when staying longer periods. Sometimes we would leave the gray tank valve open so it would just keep emptying into the sewer.

Awesome video! Your comparison of the RV’s you have owned is helpful! We have a 34’ Class A that we enjoy, but travel days are stressful. We have a home base, and travel 3 months in summer and three months in winter to enjoy nice weather. Our travel days are few, so we enjoy the larger living space. But I have to admit, the ease of travel of the Class B would be nice! Always enjoy your video’s!

Nice perspective from folks who have traveled in all three types of rvs. Another consideration is the type of travel you want to do. A class B would be better for me since I want to see all the National Parks and also urban travel to some medium and big cities.

As usual we loved the video. One consideration that you didn't cover is whether you will on occasion be taking your grandchildren or perhaps another couple with you. This would require additional sleeping space. I also wondered if you would be able to recommend somewhere you stayed in the Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Las Vegas area that you enjoyed. We are going from Elkhart to Las Vegas in March. I know you guys have done parts of that trip if you wouldn't mind sharing RV Parks you liked that would be great. Last year we stayed in Hardyville based on your video and really enjoyed it. Safe travels!

Thank you! The reason why we didn’t mention any RV parks in those areas because for one, we only stayed at the Albuquerque balloon fiesta in the dry camping area as well as the casino campground there, which we already covered in that video of the BalloonFiesta. In Las Vegas, we covered that many times also. We always stay at the Thousand Trails there. We mentioned in the beginning of this video that there is a lot of things besides what we have covered and we were probably not going to be able to cover every single thing. Hope that helps.

Great info, loved your insights. I have a 38' Diesel Pusher for the towing capacity and love the space even though I am single with a small dog. A class B would be perfect except it can't tow what I need. I was surprised the Airstream was easier to set up. My Class A has air leveling which makes it super easy to set up. I boondock alot so it is literally push the auto level, put the one slide out out and deploy the satellite and it's ready to go. Enjoy you channel, look forward to you video each Saturday. By the way I don't live in mine full time, have a sticks a bricks house.

Those were some great perspectives. I think I'm still partial to the truck and trailer combo. I love driving big stuff and I actually would enjoy the set up and tear down and maneuvering the trailer. That being said, I'd likely be one to stay at a site for awhile and just locally site see. Therefore more creature comforts would be more important to me like a bigger bathroom. Love you guys!

Hi we just found your channel. love it. My hubby is retiring soon (4 yrs.) and we are deciding what we want to do, meaning stay in our home, move to a condo, or travel 24/7. We were going to sell our home and move to our love area (where we go every year to get away from it all). But now we are thinking maybe get a condo near our soon to be grandchildren and that would be our home base for mail and such. And then sell our 2 cars and get a van (b) for traveling. We are loving seeing people our age doing this and my hubby always wanted to travel.. I am now excided about this and cannot wait. It was watching all the van class B campers out there that made our decision easy, so i want to say thank you for sharing your videos.

If only they could make an RV that was magical. Looks like a sedan and drives like one from the outside but inside it’s as big as a house. Sort of like the tents in Harry Potter or Mary Poppin’s bag. Until then I guess people just have to find what fits best for them. Hope you had a good Thanksgiving.

Great comparison between the different types. I think a lot of the choice comes down to how much you are driving as compared to how long you stay in one spot. Also having a dog in a small van would be hard!!

Excellent job of describing pros and cons of each type. I am officially a FT RVer as of Nov 22nd. I went with a 25 FT Thor Majestic Class C I rented this model twice before purchasing. I am a solo traveler, this rig is easy to drive. Plenty of space for me and my kitty. Smaller size no issues setting up parking, or getting gas. no slides makes setup/breakdown easy. Gas generator can be run while driving, so RV dies not get hot on travel days. For shorter stays, I only use electric , making trips to explore or going to town quicker. I have benefited from the information you have shared. Down sizing feels great. Less is best and excited to be living in this RV.

I found this video to be very informative. My husband and i are looking for the best vehicle to travel in and we have been heavily leaning toward a Class B but we would get an unfinished one and finish it out ourselves. We really like the idea of getting around easier with a Class B, we currently have a small pull behind travel trailer while its great for local camping it is not something we would want to travel long distances with.

Save money and time. I was tore between Class A for the space and luxury and travel trailer for the reason you’ve stated. I was think even pulling smaller Airstream with Class B After seeing your video, I’ve decide go with a class B. All of sudden my head just cleared!! Thank you!!

Great comparison of rigs! A huge issue though is also the price. Class A’s can be expensive to really expensive, the trailers are least expensive, although an Airstream is more expensive than most trailers. The class B like you have are surprisingly extremely expensive, far greater than any trailer, most 5th wheels and as much as some class A’s. So someone’s budget is a big factor in what you might buy.

Also remember a couple things to consider, when you have an Airstream you need to buy a truck to pull it. Most people (depending on size) purchase a diesel truck which are expensive and have to be factored in. When using a Class A, you usually need a tow car to drive around and explore in. With the Class B, you don’t need an extra vehicle or tow car. There’s a lot to factor in here, but this video was about our experience with all three that we had, not the difference between an Airstream, Class A and Class B. 👍🏻

Thanks for this video. I recently started full time in a 5th wheel. Have been ready to quit since day 1, so much stress daily. I am now thinking most of my stress is the truck, trailer, size, etc. Thinking a van would be so much less stress!! (Bad grammar, sorry). The entire process w/ the van sounds like a dream & being able to pop into any museum, sightsee without having to research if the 5 th wheel will fit, is the turning area, etc. Many thanks.

We can totally understand that and probably a big reason why there are so many that are converting to something smaller. You have to be comfortable, but you also have to not be so stressed or it’s difficult to enjoy your travels. Very sorry to hear you have been struggling with what you have. Nothing is perfect regardless of what anyone else may tell you. Hope you can find something that will make travel and exploring more enjoyable for you.

Have you guys looked at rear bath class B’s with twin beds? The bathrooms are much larger and it opens up the pathway from the cab to the rear of the van, making it seem much roomier inside.

Yes we have at many rv shows. Thank you for the suggestion. Comparable quality isn’t there from what we’ve seen. If you’re new to our channel, we are only testing the Grech Strada-ion, we did not purchase it. This is the fourth one we’ve tested in 2 plus years.

Well, one of the things you didn't touch on was price. The Class B's are very expensive, especially one's with sufficient battery and solar power.

Yes they are and that is a given. We are only talking about “our” RVs that we had and what we liked and didn’t like about each. If someone was to choose an airstream based on what they saw and heard from us from this video, they may choose a smaller airstream simply because of other factors and not the bathroom. There are so many determining factors and price is something we all know that is a determining factor when we look for an RV because we all look for different price ranges. But again, this video was just about us talking about the three RVs that we had and what we liked and didn’t like about each of them. If someone wanted a class B, then they can choose from various different brands and price ranges. If they wanted the battery power that this van had but could not afford a Strada ion, then maybe they might decide to do a van build and try to make it similar but yet save money by doing a lot of the work themselves.

Very thorough vlog. We have had 5 sizes of motor homes. Down to a 22' class B in September. It works. I do think I could have designed a lot of better features that their RoadTrek Zion designers did. I am till getting used to the limitations in the wet bath. I found a wet mop (stored behind the toilet) will mop up all the water quickly because the floor design is way to pebbly to use a squeegee. I don't like using a towel. The deep textured pebble shower floor, I hate it. Why not smooth? I couldn't fall in the shower if I tried!!! 😄 So we like the Class B pretty nice. I think it drives great. And I too would not drive the 40' Class A except the one time like you did. Good comparisons.

You guys are hilarious. I am learning so much from you guys. I am looking at the leisure travel with rear lounge. I can't do a wet bath it will take me back to my basic training days. I'm a 63 y/o divorced retired nurse , I'll be traveling alone . So a small drivable class B+ is better for me. I would love to see what storage solutions you use.

I love the Grech Strada-Ion set up the best however after seeing the tape measure which I appreciate, I would definitely have an issue with being 6'2". I would be interested in knowing if both of you like the lighter interior cabinets in the first Grech Strada-Ion better than the darker current model. You didn't really talk about towing the airstream and backing it into parks etc. Another point you didn't discuss cost of the rigs a comparison. Also when you switch the rigs what was the resale etc on the class A and the airstream and the truck? I just picked up and older chinook and they are very popular and i am working on it now. But my favorite go to rig and i have a class beaver 36ft diesel pusher and a 31ft airstream and truck camper and dodge cummins 2500 extended cab is the truck and camper we can boondock hit a cracker barrel go down town any city park a lot less stress. Truck camper had queen bed and yes wet bath but big and solar and onan genreator which is fairly quiet. Also i can tow a boat or whatever behind the camper as well. Appreciate you sharing your experiences this is how we all learn. Oh and we just did a 7300 mile trip in truck and camper and averaged 15.4 mpg on the trip.

We touched on that enough that we felt people got the gist. As mentioned, there’s a lot we will probably miss in the video as we were shooting this video “on the fly” without any planning. We are pushed for time quite often. We tried to just freely talk about “Which RV Was Best For Us”, hence the title. Giving our experience. With rv's there is always the "trade off's" to consider.....they are all lacking in one way or another. Each shopper has to decide what benefits win over the negatives. And figure out your life style first as use will determine what benefits work for you.

Thanks for the comparison. We rented, then bought a Winnebago View which is about 25-26 feet long. A little wider than yours but not much. We considered getting a toad but feel we can get by without it. Michelle, curious if a small, thin, plastic chopping ‘block’ would help in the bathroom. Something that would fit over the sink while getting ready? It would be thin and small enough to store easily. You could maybe glue some blocks on one side to keep it steady while using. Just a thought.

I do have room on the counter of this bathroom, but the one we talked about in the Airstream Interstate Class B did not have ANY room. That may of been the picture you seen and thought it was ours. That’s a great idea and we did think of that, but I told Brian I am fine because I also need access to the sink as well and don’t want to keep pulling something off the sink to run water. Then there would be one more thing to find a storage place for it as well. Great idea though! 👍🏻🤓

Any RV is a handful in heavy winds. Airstream's are probably the best for aero.

Yes, but some are worse than others as mentioned. Our Airstream handled the best out of the three we’ve had so far, but like everything else, that’s just one factor to consider.

We have found no problem with the toilet in the AS. We can go at least 5 or 6 days before emptying the tanks.

Good to hear, but it does waste a lot of water which equates to not lasting as long as others do with a smaller black tank. We noticed that right away.

Class A if you plan to stay at one or two locations while living full time. Travel trailer (5th wheel) is nice for vacation however, living full time at a semi permanent location is great. Class B getting from one location to another or over landing. Class A cost can be prohibitive if diesel, however nice and roomy. TT & 5th wheel can be a great choice since is can cost less with the same amenities. Class B is cost prohibitive not to mention the size and wet bath (which is a lot to give up) not to mention there isn’t any separation. Tank size 👎🏻 You have to plan your shopping/eating out etc. better. Personally, a class C to me is a better option either diesel or gas. They sell them under 30ft too. You still get the other amenities from the other type of RVs. We lived in an Class A while transitioning from TX to AZ and while our home was being built. Was great vice renting. We’ve owned a TT but prefer our class B+ (built on a class C chassis). We tow a Smart car under 2000# which lets us zip in and out while in the NP. Not to mention it’s so easy to tow. Remember, RVs depreciate like your car. If I’m going to spend $200-250k on a Class B when it’s all said and done I might as well buy a Super C. 😎 Thanks for sharing your experience with the different types of RV.

You really can’t tell others what to buy though which is why we never do. All the pros you mention have cons also. Just like towing a little car behind a Class B or B+. Some people don’t want the extra vehicle and don’t want to tow anything at all. It all depends on “which Class B” you have also. Different experience with each one. Each of us are different in what we want and need. Like us, we still work full time. Even though we enjoy the benefits the Class B we are using right now have brought us, we don’t want to live in it full time for a very long time, but it would be great to have with a small home base. There is so much we can say and cover here, but I think everyone gets the gist of what we are saying. Note to everyone deciding what to buy: Don’t let anyone sway you from what you want, just take what is said and decide on your own.

For empty nesters, like yourself, it seems like with some engine upgrades, towing a small trailer may solve a lot of the problems. I am torn between Airstream + Pickup, Class B + Small Trailer, or 35-40’ DOT bus conversion (no slides) w/out trailer (just e-bikes and Toro App). I am have ruled out traditional RV Class A w/tow car, and Dully+5th Wheel. I just don’t see how it would be enjoyable to travel/pack up such a large rigs. I have driven 24’ box truck with 22’ Car Trailer and I had no issues.
