Like you said, both speakers are fine. At the end, it’s a matter of how well a speaker matches well with your gear and room environment. Personally, I like the Focal’s look over the Wilson which looks weird with that pyramid placed over their rectangular box. I have heard the Focal at the Montreal Audio Show when they came out and they were one of the best speakers I’ve heard, with the Martin Logan ESL 15A.
Based even with what I can hear through RU-vid, I can see why the Focal is your choice. Initially when I heard the Wilson, I thought it was better based on that muscular sound. Then I heard the finesse of the Focal. Both amazing speakers, but the Focal brings more low level information and is more engaging.
I audited both the speakers this month too. Focal Scala and Wilson Sasha DAW , and I finally decide to pick the Wilson speaker . Because the Wilson sounds much more nature and balance , especially the midrange .
I have the DAW's with Spectral and MIT .. Esoteric CD and Streamer.. the sound is breath taking.. I've also owned the WP 6 & 8's .. The DAW's are beautiful in white also :)
I own Focal Diablo utopia and it's the best book shelf speaker that I've ever listen to. No listening fatigue and very crisp and clear. I listen to EVO at focal rep in thailand and it's no where near any speaker. I'll take EVO over Wilson Sasha.
I totally agree with you on the cabling... I had a full loom of Nordost Odin 1 for my Alexia's and it just didnt work for me. I moved to copper and couldn't be happier with my setup. I move to the Tara Labs Zero Evolution but I still have a little silver on the Power cords though... 😁
Jay, great comparative report! I thought the Focal had the more clearer midrange. Your room consideration comments are extremely important (and override many other considerations). 2 open questions in my mind: 1) did you listen to the Wilson's with their spikes (the video shows them on rollers)? 2) i may be wrong but their is a big price difference: Sasha around $38k vs Scala around $51k --- perhaps the Alexia 2 is the better one to compare it to. Thanks so much for your evaluations!
@@Burevestnik9M730 Scala Evo's used to be $40K a pair but Focal like most greedy brands jacked up their prices under the garb of the pandemic & inflation. So what used to be 40K is now $53K + taxes.
Sasha don’t like silver you are absolutely right .I own them and tried very good quality silver cables they sounded very bright and I returned the cables 👍
I selected the Bose 901 on 8 foot 3 inch wide poles in gloss copper. I agree on copper over chrome poles. They work wonderful with my Friday dates. They can hold a 130lb dancer quite firmly.
As long as you're happy, is what matters, but these speakers are the best of the best. You can also buy 30 pair for the price of these. These are 30,000 to 35,000 bucks! Out of my league but it you sat in front of these, you would be completely blown away. I'm talking sound quality.
I wanted to say Wilson... but damn it.. I listened to both in your previous post and the Focal just sounded more listenable.. The wilsons just sounded a bit too brittle in thie high's... I have Sopra 2s and they are very easy to listen to.. I was toying wiht the idea of trading them for a pair of Sasha V1's.. but I dont think it would be a move forward....
Great comparison Jay. I am actually in the market for Sasha. After watching this video, I will try to listen to Focal Scala Evo. I am current user of Martin Logan - Ethos model power by Tube ARC and Mac Solid Preamp. I heard your comment that you don’t need much back space with Focal? Is that true? Thanks so much for this video, very useful. 🙏🤙🏾
I've heard Evo and Scala III side by side and Scala III won. Much easier to setup and more forgiving. Scala III is an affordable king for orchestral music.
I have a request for a future video... I would like to get your thoughts on Power Conditioners? I see you have a shunyata but if I'm not mistaken you also had a PS Audio... not sure if you had other like Torus / Audioquest. I would like to get your take on using it vs going to the wall, maybe comparison between some if you can? Thanks
For me, the Scala is better than the Wilson DAW. I'm glad you compared the two because I'm in the market to buy the a high end speaker. Do you think that since I like the presence of the Focal Scala, I would love the Focal Stellas. I was told to get the Stellas with two Burmester 911 amps and translucent reference cables with a Linn Klimax Audio player. What do you think of this setup.
