I drove a P1 (2008 C30) for 10 years and it was virtually bulletproof with basic maintenance. I believe I had three issues in total: 1) cell in battery failed (replaced for free under warranty), 2) PCV needed to be replaced (replaced for free under warranty) and 3) accelerator position sensor went bad. When I sold it, everything was still working like new. I now have a P3 (2011 XC60) and my wife the same (2008 XC70) and while they definitely do feel more premium than my C30, I am hoping they hold up as well as it did. I don't think you can go wrong with Volvo in general as long as you properly maintain your vehicle.

P1 Volvos are great in every way. Fantastic engines, great durability. P2s just don't rust. I had an s60 2003. It was a lovely car all the way. Now my dad uses it. P3 started to become to be ford but this actually helped in some area. Better steering for example. I would recommend p2 Volvos the most.

I would also recommend p2. Just not the facelift if you want diesel. That euro4 engine is trouble. Both preface and Facelift petrol is good. Also the p80 is good even tho it wasnt mentioned here (too old i guess)

@@SuperBasslover1 euro 4 d5 were hit and miss. You get some great ones out there but I found that folk just treated them like an euro 3. Neglected, long runs without oil changes and strangely, suffered from injector black death. The dogs of e4 d5's I viewed were phenomenal, abused specimens and there were some that had perfect engines but riddled with electrical gremlins. Picked a tidy E3 in the end.

Look under the plastic skirt of the p2 volvos, they DO rust. Found out when i took the panel off to have a little check, 35cm wide hole (easily fixed if you got basic welding skills though). Gonna check driver side once winters over.

P2 2.4d V70 2007 manual Vs P3 S80 D5 2010 manual. Engine note / character in the P2 is better. Seats are better. However the P3 does have better mpg,more tech,less road tax. Both are bargains imo.

P2 V70. Bullet proof wagon. I have a 2006 R. Its a fantastic car. As long as its looked after it will last forever.

Hmm I do not entirely agree on this. I owned 2 P2 V70 D5's, one is still in my possession a 2003. Reliable no-nonsense car. I also had a 2006 with an updated interior and stronger engine ( quite a difference on accelerating! ) I sold the 2006 ( got some penny for it )because I bought myself a P3 2011 V70 D5 summum 205 HP/152kW, full option in a very good condition. The 2003 one I keep for hobby and backup car, also in a great condition........not worth any penny today. Diesel cars seems to be game over, still I made the crazy decision to buy a P3. I instantly changed the timing belt + waterpump, brand new original alternator + battery, next month 2 tires on the back and transmission flush. So it already drives very good and comfy but there are some negative points as well: interior leather quality is not as good as the P2, the outside paint is also not as strong as the P2, the front seats I expected to be a bit bigger as I occur a little bit too little support for the legs. Than the Volvo logo at the front: you HAVE to replace this one as it simply goes off and just flies away. Than the plastic battery cover, the clips will break and on the upper side of this 2-part cover will let some water in: order a new one please! For the rest: P3 is a more luxurious, more comfortable and faster car to driver, but I think in terms of reliability P2 and P3 are NOT beating my first V70 2.5D from 1999, that was the age cars where designed by engineers not Mr. Scrooges........

Bought a 2006 V70 2.4d (face-lift?) Euro 4 I think... I'm worried I've bought the wrong one 😢.. Engine System Service Required message already on and no power over 3000RPM... Taking to local garage tomorrow, I'm told it's probably swirl flaps need replacing 🙄🙄

Volvo is the best I just got a P3 Volvo S60 T5 & I adore it. As for the summer time I got a Saab 9-3 2.0T Arc convertible, simply because it's a motorcycle on four wheels. Both of them are Amazing rides. Volvo is a luxury winter beater & Saab the summer ride;)

Have a v50 lux model, I must say it’s pretty luxurious inside in som much that it has everything you could need to be comfortable. Pretty reliable too, those Ford engines and boxes are bomb proof with basic maintenance.

My first car was an 2.5tdi s70 2000 year. I drove it for 6 years before then getting a p1 v70 which i drove for about 1 year before my dads "old" p2 v70 2005 D5 passed to me since he bought a newer v90. I gotta say theres not much difference between the cars, the P1 was maybe a tad bit more "fun" to drive than the p2 but now that i've driven the p2 for better part of a year i definitely preferr it over my p1 even if i do feel right at home sitting in my p1 but the p2 is just dead steady on the roads, yeah bumps are noticeable and can be annoying but with the comfort the car offers in general i tend to forget about the bumps in the road. Recently i had the privilege of driving my neigbhbours 2011 s80 d5 twin turbo and what a rocket that thing is (my v70 d5 is the 163hp variant). And i gotta say the s80 felt alot more sharper on the road and the road bumps were barely audible let alone noticeable compared to my v70. However i do preferr the cabin of my v70 atleast in terms of the center console, i sit in a rather "wide legged" position so my knee is leaning against the center console wall and its perfectly comfy in the v70 but the s80 has the "waterfall" style console so its not near as comfortable. The S80 also had a much better sound system than my v70 despite the s80 being stock and my v70 having brand new pioneer set. Perhaps its just the Sedan model that does it? My S70 has incredibly filling and excellent audio whereas my v70 feels like my left ear isnt getting much of the sound at all. anyway, i'd say the s80 wins just slightly but the practicality of a wagon can not be denied, my neighbour promised he'd sell me his s80 when he decides to change car though i might still change it for a p3 v70 later on but it really is in flawless condition regardless.

Having owned one of each, I'd say the p1 was most fun on A roads, predictable, planted and refined, even though it was a non turbo 2.4, it was a blast to drive with just a bolted on strut brace. The p1 thrived on being driven hard and had such a stiff shell. The p2, you can see their attempt at saying the body is stiff, but isn't, I found that same driving roads (your hoon video) it was a bit more "crashy" there were hints of understeer but with a 163bhp engine, I was finding the DTSC kicking in from time to time accelerating on various corners. Then the p3? I've got an xc70 d5. It's disappointing in some respects but still pleasing to drive, almost wafting through corners with a bit more roll but then again it's sat 30mm higher than stock with larger tyres. The engine note is more subdued (thanks dpf). Drivers car p1, cruisers car p3, utility and reliability p2. P2 d5 has a fantastic engine note and I wish there was more bolt on upgrades for the p3 d5...

I started researching and viewing this channel has prompted me to bite the bullet and get a 2016 S80. Admittedly ending up with the D4 (can't knock £30 VED and crazy mpg). So it'd better be good or I'll come hunting for ya! 🤣

From my point of view on P1 platform they've made the most uncommon designed Volvo's such as C30 and C70 2nd gen (such as mine)....but of course all af them have pros and cons

P1 platform Volvo are not built tough and durable compare to P2, the only consolation is that P1 platform Volvo consumed less fuel compare to P2.

I recommend engine oil flush every oil change. Problem solved

@@pavw5508 Engine knock depending on engine speed. At first it stopped when the oil warmed up. It won't even help now. It looks like a hydraulic valve tappet but I'm not sure.

@@tomasbostik3066 the hydraulic valve cannot tap. It fills with oil and minimise the distance. It is either a faulty lifter or it is clogged and it doesn't work as it should. Really worth to flush the engine regularly. Mine d5 has 103 thousands miles and runs beautifully
