Which Wireless Headphones are better? | SONY WH-1000XM4 vs TECHNICS EAH-A800 Comparison 

I also have the sony and the technics. To my opinion the technics is way better. The sound quality is a steep ahead and the big earcups are roomy and confy. The technics became my daily driver over the xm4

So I just got the Technics A800 today and after installing the firmware update and setting them up and also fiddling a little around with the EQ I must say sound wise there's no comparison to the Sony XM4. I just sold my XM4 today because I was planning on either getting the new XM5 on Friday or keep the Technics A800 if I like them after testing. And I gotta say I like em alot. Sound is so much clearer than the XM4 and these I actually gotta turn down while I had the XM4 running on max volume to make them sound somewhat decent. Also the comfort on these is quite better than the XM4. I cant speak of the XM5 because I haven't tried them yet but I don't think I need to. The A800 are really a great sounding pair of headphones with ANC at least at the level of the XM4 imo. Sound isolation is great. I can't hear a thing from outside with even the white noise of the AC running. It cancels out perfectly fine. I haven't made a call yet so can't speak on the microphone quality but I'm sure that'll be just fine. One little thing tho I can complain about is Sonys carrying case always has the little hook by the zipper. These don't which is kinda a little annoying because I usually take these with me to work and the little hook comes in handy to just hook them on my finger while carrying my laptop bag. But I'll see if I can't just simply get a aftermarket hook to fix that small complaint. These are definitely the best sounding wireless headphones I've tried so far and I've gotten thru quite a bit of different ones. I'm very happy with these. And yes I know Technics from back in the 90s. I've owned several of their high end hifi back then. Like their tape decks were one of the best on the market. Also their amplifiers were one of the first with the mos-fet technology which made the sound alot clearer. They are pioneers in the audio field. They also had some of the best DJ headphones back then and of course their dj turntables are legendary to this day.

Hi, thank you for the review! I've owned Sony WH-1000xm4 previously and now I have Technics EAH-A800. With the last firmware update Technics are able to support Multipoint and LDAC connection simultaneously. For me, the comfort with Technics is better than with the Sony: I feel a little pain on top of my head after 2-3 hours with Sony's and my ears are sweating faster. And in my opinion Sony's app is very convenient and full of functions. In other aspects I'm fully agree with your conclusions.

I was amazed by the technics since I never heard of the brand and decided to buy them because I read it is a Panasonic company with a long history in audio and they were on sale cheaper then the sony, Excellent sound quality both the az60 and aeh800. Great review.

I would like to comment on the comfort of the XM4 and A800, because that‘s one point I disagree with you. I found the XM4 getting quite uncomfortable after wearing it for e.g. more than an hour. The headband gets very hard and I found the earcups create a feeling of uneasiness. I found myself repositioning the earcups very often. The A800 has quite thick memoryfoam on the headband and earcups and I found them much more comfortable using them for e.g. 2 hours and more. Both get hot after some time, but here again I disagree with you. I had the impression that the XM4 created more heat than the A800. I do agree that the A800 sound far better than the XM4. The XM4 generally sounded compressed leaving no space between the instruments. It seemed that they were stacked whereas the A800 gave room for every instrument. You can hear them apart each in its position.

Just ordered the A800's. Should get them in a day or two. I sure appreciate the in-depth review! excellent content!

I don't know if my EAH-A800 had a factory defect, with noise cancellation activated they produce UNBEARABLE noise.

I have the Technics. I had XM4 before that, and I have changed them simply because of the sound quality. Especially when using them wired (I wanted something which can be used wired and wireless, rather than buying two different headphones) I often listen music from my turntables and the wired sound quality is waaay better than Sony's.

Very comprehensive video and also what a great, minimalistic and stylish channel you have. I really like your calm and factual approach to things. I decided to go for Technics after watching your reviews. I saw loads of pushy, loud and scripted reviews for Soundcores Q45, can't see any on here, so that's a relief :)

I have had both and can say the sound of the technics is so much better, volume is also higher, the equalizer actualy does something unlike the sony one. I use mine on android with ldac with hd amazon music. All the otherfunctionss work well apart from the wearing sensor that pauses play now and then so i just turned it off.

Truly disappointed by the mx4 they sound soooo boomy and I do like bass.

After a month of use, I've noticed a persistent white noise in the left ear cup when the ANC/Ambient mode is activated, which is disappointing. As it's still under warranty, I hope this issue can be resolved.

I’m interested to learn which of these two models offer ANC and/or mic capability while plugged in to the source with a cable. I need these capabilities for work.

After using the az80 and directly compared to my xm4 i realized how bad the xm4 do instrumental separation. The technics just masters it and as in ears they sound WAY better. I guess I'm gonna get these A800

The Sony XM4 earcups can be replaced. I should know, I've done it. Just a heads up lad.

I'm not sure if someone has already said it or not.. but the earpads of XM4s are also detachable but not that easily.

Hi. Thanks for this review. I have a Sony XB910 extra bass for wireless use. But I would like to improve quality and design. I love this classic design of Technics. And I like to have deep bass sometimes. Do you think the Technics is better than Sony in this case? Thanks a lot. I wait for your answer before buying. Great review. Appreciated and will subscribe. But I tried both of these headphones and they both had muffled sound ( I don't know audiophile speak 😂) in the mids and lows imo. Just didn't sound good at all compared to my 70 dollar wired Phillips headphones when listening to Classical. Going to try the mx5s next... But if this is how Bluetooth ANC sounds, then they aren't worth the dollars. Period.

Hi. I use headphones also for phonecalls, and I'm looking for good one for Android device, but I can see, that in this days it's almost impossible to come close to Apple - shame . Maybe that's will be a solution for me to go for Apple, but I'm not ready for it yet.

The Sony ear cup is replaceable

I also like EAH-A800. Sony are also good, but are not that confortable. Regarding sound quality, they are slightly better. But the battery life is very good.
